Flames in the kitchen

Flames in the kitchen
Kiara walked out a minute after, with a shoulder soaked with tears. She walked to the clinic where she knew her mate would be. Celyn was a surgeon, one very respected. She, however, was not needed at the clinic, but it was a place she found comfort.
She walked to the clinic and the first thing she saw was Celyn, standing in her white dress, her blonde hair tied up in a ponytail. She was conversing with another healer, making hand gestures like she was explaining a few things.
Kiara walked forward and cleared her throat.
Celyn turned to face her. Her lips curved into a smile, but that moment, she forced it down.
“I’ll talk to you later,” she dismissed the healer she was talking to.
Kiara walked forward and stood in front of Celyn, a smile on her face.
“So you know I exist now?”
“Celyn…”
“You left without saying anything! You didn’t even tell me you were joining Chase to search for shit, you just left!” Celyn yelled. “What does that mean? Am I so irrelevant now that you cannot talk to me first?”
“Celyn…”
Celyn held up her hand. “I have nothing against you choosing to forgive Chase, I’m actually really inspired by you. You made me take a step forward and admit that I do miss Dali and I miss what we had.”
Kiara wrapped her fingers around Celyn’s hand. She brought it down, caressing the back of her hand with her thumb.
“Celyn, I’m sorry.”
“Are you?”
Kiara nodded her head. “I shouldn’t have done that to you. I was taken with a sense of heroism and I disregarded what was most important at that moment. I’m so sorry.”
It wasn’t an apology Celyn appreciated, however, she was choosing to be more like the woman she loved, and that meant that after such an apology like this, she had to make an effort to throw things in the past.
So she nodded her head. “I am still angry, but no problem, we can move past this.”
Kiara’s smile stretched out. She pulled Celyn into a hug. “So tell me about this with Dali, did you guys finally talk?” She pulled away from the hug.
Celyn nodded her head, the memory of the night before bringing a smile to her face. “Yes, we talked about a lot.” Her eyes glistened with something divine; it was the power of marvelous platonic friendship.
“I’m glad,” Kiara said.
“So what are you going to do now?”
“I need to help Chase out with finding a place to build on. We are going to go get the wood. He wants to take with him a few wolves, but first, he needs to feed them.”
Suddenly, Celyn burst into laughter. It was too abrupt; Kiara definitely did not see it coming. She frowned slightly.
“I’m sorry,” Celyn apologized. “The healer in charge of food is Marcus. I just realized that if Chase wants to give food to his people, he will have to talk to Marcus.”
Still, Kiara was clueless. She frowned. “So?”
“Marcus wants to be in a relationship with Dali.”
Kiara’s eyebrows shot up as realization dawned on her. She glanced outside where she saw Chase conversing with Damon, and then back to Celyn. “Do you want to watch?”
Celyn’s eyes sparked with interest; she nodded her head vigorously. “Yes!”
Kiara nodded, and then they both walked out, fingers interlaced. They approached the two alphas standing, talking to each other.
Chase turned towards the women when he saw them approaching, the conversation of informing Damon of the plan to build houses for the wolves coming to an end.
He flashed a welcoming, friendly smile at Celyn.
Celyn rolled her eyes.
“You mentioned your wolves being hungry,” Kiara spoke first. “There’s a healer in charge of food. I’ll go inform him of this, and I’m sure he might come up with a solution to your problem.”
Chase smiled to Kiara. “Thank you very much.”
Kiara walked away, leaving the three people together.
After two heartbeats, Damon walked away.
Chase and Celyn stood facing each other. Chase took his eyes away, but Celyn kept hers on him. She was a lesbian, she wasn’t blind; she could see what Dali must’ve seen in Chase that made her lose her mind.
For one, it was the sharp jawline, the stubble resting on his face, his straight nose, and those burning green eyes. Everything about this man was amazing, except his brain.
His looks were the only thing saving him. And paired with a body like his, he truly was a gift from the heavens.
The wind flowed in his hair. As he swallowed, his Adam’s apple bobbed up and then down. His eyes squinted as he avoided staring back at Celyn.
Such a physically perfect man.
However, this was far from what intrigued Celyn. He was hard, firm like rock, but her preference rested on more feminine edges, like Kiara.
Not green eyes; she preferred gray eyes. Not wavy hair, but straight hair. Not a buff body, a slim athletic body. Not a man, a woman.
Kiara returned with Marcus trailing behind her. Celyn fought to keep her smile hidden, especially when she noticed Chase’s eyebrows slowly knitting together as Marcus and Kiara approached.
She stifled a laugh.
Kiara and Marcus stopped in front of them. “Chase, this is Marcus,” Kiara introduced. “He is the healer in charge of the food.”
Marcus was as displeased to meet Chase as Chase was to meet him. He noticed that anger and hate from a few steps away. However, he was the one Dali was smiling at, the one that was on good terms with her.
So if this was a competition, he won already.
Chase left Kiara’s words hanging in the air, his glare aimed right at Marcus. The two men stood, one at six feet and five inches, the other at six feet and two inches. One an alpha and the other a healer.
Chase took a step forward, his imposing aura drifting in between the four of them. “Pleasure to meet you, Marcus.”
Marcus forced a smile at him. “Pleasure is all mine, Chase.”
Despite the fairly civil greeting, both Celyn and Kiara knew there was nothing civil about the two of them. Chase was holding himself back, and Marcus the same. One wished he could throw the first punch, but he was stopped by the desperation to win over the forgiveness of the healers.
The other wanted to win a woman’s heart not by throwing fists, but just sweet nothings.
A battle.
“So, if you want your wolves to have food to eat, Marcus is the one in charge,” Celyn explained.
Chase nodded his head. “So you heal the kitchen staff or what?”
Marcus scoffed. “I am a healer. I just happen to be a good cook.”
A chuckle broke out from Chase. “Splendid, that’s good to know.”
“Yeah,” Marcus agreed. “I’ve been feeding Dali quite well for two years. Hope to feed her for more.”
Chase swallowed.
Celyn’s smile widened, her heartbeat thumping for the aggression flowing out from the two of them.
“Isn’t that all you have to offer? Food?” Chase retorted.
“What? Are you one of those toxic men who believe a man that can cook is not a man?”
“And who told you I can’t cook?” Chase asked.
“Oh my,” Marcus let out a short laugh. “I’d love to see what you can cook. I believe Dali would be interested too.”
“Oh wow,” Celyn clapped loudly, “why don’t we have a cook-off?”
Kiara agreed with a nod. “And Dali will name the winner.”
The two men turned to them.
“The winner will get to have Dali’s first dance during tonight’s full moon.”
