Just for jealousy

Just for jealousy
Maverick’s POV

I barely remembered opening the front door. The moment I stepped inside, something inside me snapped. I grabbed the nearest vase and hurled it against the wall. It shattered. The sound echoed through the house, but it wasn't enough to silence the rage burning inside me.

I grabbed a lamp next.

I threw it across the room.

“Maverick!”

I heard Lyra's voice behind me, but I ignored her.

I picked up a glass from the table and sent it crashing to the floor.

“What are you doing?” Lyra demanded.

I didn't answer. I overturned a chair. Then another.
I swept everything from the table with one violent movement, sending plates, books, and decorations crashing onto the floor.

“Maverick, stop!”

She rushed toward me and grabbed my arm.

I yanked myself free.

“Leave me alone!”

Lyra stumbled backward, staring at me in shock.I'd never behaved like this in front of her before. But I didn't care. My chest felt like it was being crushed beneath the weight of everything that had happened.

“Maverick, please!”

Lyra stepped in front of me.

I moved around her.

She blocked me again.

I pushed past her.

“Stop throwing things!”

“Get out of my way!”

She grabbed my arm again.

I ripped it away.

“I said leave me alone!”

“What is wrong with you?”

I turned toward her.

For a moment, neither of us spoke. My breathing was heavy. My hands were trembling. I looked around the room and finally realized what I had done.

Broken glass covered the floor. The furniture was overturned.Everything that had once been neat and orderly was now scattered around me.

And yet, somehow, the chaos around me still didn't compare to the chaos inside my head.

Suddenly, all the strength drained from my body.

I stopped.

I walked over to the couch and dropped heavily onto it.

I buried my face in my hands.

Lyra stood several feet away from me, breathing heavily.

“What is wrong with you?” she asked again, this time more cautiously. “You're behaving like a crazy person.”

I slowly lifted my head.

“Maybe I am crazy.”

She frowned.

I laughed bitterly.

“And you know what?”

I stared directly at her.

“It's all your fault.”

Her eyes widened.

“My fault?”

“Yes.”

“What did I do?”

I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my knees.

“You went around announcing to everyone that you're pregnant.”

Lyra's expression changed immediately.

She stared at me as though I'd just accused her of something ridiculous.

“Are you serious?”

I said nothing.

She folded her arms across her chest.

“You're angry because I told the pack I'm pregnant?”

“You weren't supposed to tell everyone so soon!”

“You're blaming me for that?”

“Yes!”

Her eyes narrowed.

“Maverick, you personally told me to fake this pregnancy.”

I clenched my jaw.

“I know what I told you.”

“Then why are you acting like I did something wrong?”

“Because you didn't have to announce it to everyone!”

Lyra let out a frustrated laugh.

“You're unbelievable.”

She stepped closer.

“You told me exactly what to do. You told me to pretend that I was carrying your child. You told me to let the pack believe it.”

I looked away.

“And why did I tell you to do that?”

She waited.

I didn't answer.

“Because of Flora,” she said.

The mention of her name made my stomach tighten.

Lyra continued.

“You wanted Flora to become jealous.”

I looked back at her.

“You wanted her to think you had moved on. You wanted her to believe that you and I were building a family together.”

“Lower your voice.”

“No.”

She shook her head angrily.

“You wanted to hurt her, Maverick. That was your plan from the beginning.”

I remained silent. Because she was right.Every word she said was true. When Flora had left, I had convinced myself that I didn't care.

But the truth was different.

I wanted her to regret walking away from me.

I wanted her to see me happy with someone else.

I wanted her to feel even a fraction of the pain I had felt.

And Lyra had agreed to help me.

The pregnancy was supposed to be the perfect weapon.

Except now everything was spiraling out of control.

“You told me to make the announcement,” Lyra continued. “You told me the pack needed to hear about the pregnancy. You told me it would make Flora jealous.”

“I know.”

“Then why are you angry with me?”

“Because the plan isn't working!”

She stared at me.

“What do you mean?”

I stood abruptly.

“Our plan was supposed to make Flora jealous.”

“It will.”

“No!”

My voice echoed through the room.

“It isn't working!”

“How do you know?”

“Because she just got here!”

Lyra blinked.

I paced across the room.

“Flora arrived at the pack today. Today, Lyra! And you're already expecting everything to happen immediately.”

“She saw you with me.”

“That doesn't mean she's jealous.”

“You don't know that.”

“I know Flora.”

The words came out before I could stop them.

Lyra went quiet.

I stopped pacing.

For a second, I wondered if she had noticed the way my voice changed when I said Flora's name.

Of course she had.

She always noticed.

“You still care about her,” Lyra whispered.

My heart slammed against my chest.

“Don't start.”

“You do.”

“I said don't start.”

“You're angry because Flora isn't reacting the way you expected.”

I turned toward her.

“Enough.”

“No, Maverick. You need to hear this.”

She walked closer.

“Flora just returned. You can't expect her to see you with me and immediately fall apart.”

“She should.”

“Why?”

“Because she loved me.”

“And you think love disappears the moment someone gets hurt?”

I stared at her.

Lyra shook her head.

“Our plan was never going to work that quickly.”

I clenched my fists.

“It's taking too much time.”

“Of course it is!”

Her voice rose.

“Flora just arrived at the pack today. You knew this would take time. You wanted to make her jealous, not destroy her in one day.”

I looked away.

She was right.

I knew she was right.

But patience was becoming impossible.

Every time I saw Flora, something inside me twisted.

I wanted her attention.

I wanted her to look at me.

I wanted her to regret leaving. And yet, whenever she looked at me, I was the one who couldn't breathe.

Lyra sighed.

“You need to calm down.”

I laughed bitterly.

“Calm down?”

“Yes.”

“After everything that happened today?”

“You're making this worse.”

I looked at the broken glass scattered across the floor.
