Chapter 8 Under my protection
Liam’s POV
“Why hasn't she woken up?” I demanded.
“I don't know Alpha. Her injuries and concussion weren't that severe, she should have woken up by now.” Doctor Stella said, checking Elena once again.
“It could be that the pain was too much and well she isn't exactly healthy, so it could prolong the healing process and let's not forget that she doesn't seem to have a wolf.” She muttered, thinking to herself.
I looked at my mate once again, her brows furrowing. I wondered if she was having a bad dream or she was still in pain. I hated feeling like this, so powerless, my mate was probably still fighting for her life, and I couldn't do anything to help her.
“We just have to be patient.”
I sighed as I stroked her cheek, the doctor giving me a quick glance, I know she wondered what my connection was to her. I mean after all, everyone knows the story of the Black Wolf, how his mate had died before she could even catch her first breath.
Or at least that was what had happened, what I was told happened. A witch had brought the news to my parents, not something every sixteen year old wants to hear on their birthday.
Had she lied or did the goddess give me a second chance. Either way, I needed a fucking answer and someone had to start talking.
“Liam, Liam can you hear me?” Josh asked through the mind link.
“Yes,” I replied.
“We just got to the pack grounds, no sightings of rogues anywhere nearby and Sarah's fine, though she's kinda screaming at me, asking where you are.” Josh chuckled.
“Okay then, I will be on my way and prepare a room on my floor, I'm bringing her home.”
“Oh okay, see you then.”
I looked up at the doctor, I could tell she was trying to figure out what the problem was.
I moved over and cradled Elena in my arms.
“I'm Alpha Liam, what are you doing?, we don't know if it's safe yet to move the patient,” I ignored her as I made my way through the door, linking the guards who stayed behind to get the car ready.
“Alpha—Alpha Liam, what's going on?” Alpha Derrick made his way towards me as I was leaving the clinic.
“What does it look like? I'm taking her to my pack, it's clear that this pack had been torturing her. Or do you wish to continue,” I spat.
He looked pale as he moved back. For a man his size and the evil he did, he had no balls.
“No, Alpha—I mean you can take her,” he gulped, stepping aside.
“That bitch stole my necklace, and he's just what, taking her to live with him,” I looked at his side to see a pretty lady sneering at my mate.
I leaned in closer to her, still holding Elena in my arms. “What did you say?”
“Uh—oh nothing, Alpha Liam.” She moved behind her mate.
I looked over her again, she was pretty but next to my mate she was just plain.
I kept walking until I got to the car and laid Elena carefully in the back seat.
I opened the mind link. Let's head home, I told the guards.
Yes, Alpha.
Josh, keep digging around for evidence on the Silver Lake pack, I want them to pay for their crimes, I said removing the others from the link.
Of course, Liam.
We finally got home, Black Moon Pack, many people told crazy rumors about my pack and how we tortured our enemies when we caught them. But that wasn't true, at least not all the time. We were the number one pack in the country because we had busted our asses to protect what was ours and bring justice to abused wolves in smaller packs.
“Where have you been? I have been waiting for you and then I hear there's a rogue attack up north,” Sarah screamed as she marched towards me. “I—I was worried something happened to you.”
“Nice to see you too Sarah,” I said as I pulled Elena from the car and into my arms.
“Whoa, who is she? Don't tell me? She looked at me shocked. “You finally got one of your girlfriends pregnant.”
“What—no, what are you even talking about,” I asked as I kept walking into the pack house.
“You think I don't know about your girls, the ones always flocking around you.”
“I really don't know what you mean,” I was getting irritated at this point.
“Hey, I'm not judging, just don't knock up another one, okay? I really don't know how I'm going to explain to my nieces and nephews why they have many mamas but one papa.”
“For the love of—” I cried as I got to my floor.
“Liam you're back, I've prepared just as you asked,” Josh walked up the stairs and past me, heading for the room.
“So Josh, what do you think, huh?” Sarah nudged him.
“About what?” He looked confused.
I just sighed as I laid Elena on the bed.
“You know, is it going to be a boy or a girl? I'd love to a baby sister, boys are so frustrating and—”
“No one is having a boy or a girl because no one is pregnant.” I glared at her. “It has been a long day Sarah and I would really like it if our guest could rest.”
“Okay, okay I was just messing with you, no need to be a jerk about it.” She stormed out of the room.
“Liam, she's just happy to see you that's all, she was really worried.” Josh sighed.
“I know, I'm just tired and stressed about her.” I looked back at Elena.
“So you are sure, she's the one? She's your—”
“Yes, I'm sure,”
“But how?”
“I don't know Josh, something doesn't add up.”
“Don't worry, we can figure it out tomorrow, just rest.” He patted my back.
“I will, when I finish those paper work,”
“Okay then, goodnight man.” He left the room.
I looked at Elena and then headed to my office. I thought of stopping by at Sarah's room since we were on the same floor, but I knew she would just slam the door in my face.
I wasn't sure how long I was in the office, until Sarah slammed my door open.
“Oh come on, aren't you supposed to be asleep by now and why—”
“Your friend, she's awake and her eyes are glowing.”
