Chapter 131 — The Dream Maker’s Escape

Chapter 131 — The Dream Maker’s Escape
I drove to Garrett’s location without thinking twice. It was almost 5 a.m.

The sky was still dark, but dawn was close. The air felt cold and heavy, and the road was empty. My headlights cut through the darkness as I sped toward Garrett’s location.

This was not supposed to happen. Everything had been carefully planned. The relocation was meant to be smooth.

I pulled into the warehouse compound and saw the gates wide open. A few guards stood outside, their posture stiff, their faces pale. Some looked ashamed. Others looked scared.

Good. They should be scared. Garrett rushed toward my car the moment I stepped out.

“Sir,” he said, breathing hard.

“What exactly happened?” I asked immediately.

He swallowed. “We were overpowered.”

I stared at him. “Overpowered?” I repeated slowly.

“Yes, sir. Some of the slaves fought back. They outnumbered the guards. We didn’t expect them to react like that.”

My temper flared instantly.

“You didn’t expect them to react?” I snapped. “You’re dealing with Gifted Betas.”

“We chased them immediately,” he replied. “We searched several times. We split into teams. We combed through the woods behind the warehouse, the river trail, the rocky path near the old quarry.”

“And you still couldn’t find them?”

He hesitated.

“No, sir.”

I stepped closer to him.

“You are giving me excuses,” I said, my voice low but shaking with anger.

“No, sir…”

“Yes, you are,” I interrupted. “You were not supposed to give me excuses. You were supposed to carry out the relocation of those slaves swiftly. With ease.”

Garrett clenched his jaw but stayed silent. He looked ashamed. “It won’t happen again.”

“It shouldn’t have happened at all!” I shouted.

The guards nearby went still.

“Do you even understand what is at stake?” I asked him.

“Because if you did, you would not be standing here telling me they outnumbered you like that is some acceptable excuse.”

Garrett opened his mouth to respond, but at that moment, my phone rang.

The sound cut through my anger. I pulled it out and saw the name on the screen. Jasper.

My chest tightened instantly. Garrett saw the name too. His face drained of color.

I inhaled slowly and answered.

“Boss,” I said, forcing my voice to calm.

“Damien,” he replied smoothly. “Has the relocation been completed?”

For a split second, I considered telling the truth. But that would be a disaster.

“We’re still on it,” I said evenly. “There were minor delays, but everything is proceeding. It will go smoothly.”

There was a pause on the line.

“Minor delays?” he asked.

“Yes. Nothing serious. The men are handling it.”

“And tonight is the full moon,” Jasper reminded me.

“I’m aware,” I replied.

“I don’t want anything interfering with our timeline.”

“It won’t,” I assured him. “Everything will go according to plan.”

Another pause.

“Keep me updated,” he said finally.

“I will.” The call ended.

I lowered the phone slowly. Garrett exhaled quietly.

“Give me the names and details of the fourteen who escaped,” I ran a hand over my face.

Garrett hurried inside and returned with a small stack of files. His hands trembled slightly as he handed them to me.

I began flipping through them one by one.

Each file had a name, age, classification, and ability.

I scanned quickly. Then I reached the last file. My eyes froze on the name. Felix Landon.

For a moment, I thought I had read it wrong. I looked again.

My fingers tightened around the file.

Garrett noticed my expression. “Sir?”

I opened the file slowly. There was his photo. Blood drained from my face. I felt dizzy.

“Sir?” Garrett repeated.

I almost collapsed from shock.

Felix. Out of all the slaves who could have escaped…

It had to be him. My mind started racing. Felix would definitely be useful to Jasper.

And now he had escaped. How was I going to explain this?

How would I tell Jasper that not only did fourteen slaves escape under my watch…

But Elara’s brother was one of them? I kept staring at the file. Then my eyes moved lower. Ability: Dream maker.

Dream maker? The words made my stomach drop.

I let out a slow breath. I was in big trouble. Most people think that Gifted Beta wolves who are dream makers do not have relevant power.

They underestimate them. They think controlling dreams is harmless. Until they get in their way.

Until they provoke them. Then they learn the truth. Dream makers can create your dreams.

They can shape them however they want. They can enter them to torment you every single night.

You close your eyes hoping for rest. Instead, they turn your sleep into torture.

My heart began pounding harder. That was why I had that dream this morning.

It wasn’t random. It wasn’t just stress. It was him.

Felix had already reached into my sleep. Garrett was still watching me.

I closed the file slowly.

Garrett spoke carefully. “Sir… what do we do?”

I stared at the forest behind the warehouse.

The sun was starting to rise now, casting a faint golden light over the trees.

“They couldn’t have gone far,” I said finally.

“It hasn’t been that long,” Garrett agreed.

“And tonight is the full moon,” I added.

He nodded slowly. “They’ll be stronger.”

“Yes.”

I took a deep breath. If we don’t find them before nightfall, it would become much worse.

“Gather the available guards,” I ordered.

Garrett moved quickly.

Within minutes, the remaining guards stood in front of me.

They looked tired but I didn't care. I stepped forward.

“Fourteen slaves escaped under your watch,” I said coldly.

No one spoke.

“That failure will not happen again.”

One of them swallowed hard.

“You will all shift,” I commanded. “Now.”

They obeyed immediately.

Bones cracked. Fur replaced skin. Wolves stood where men had been.

“Go into the woods,” I ordered. “Spread out. Track every scent. Search every corner.”

A low growl echoed in response.

“You will not stop until you find them,” I continued. “I don’t care how long it takes.”

The wolves took off into the forest.

I stood there, holding Felix’s file in my hand. Dream maker.

I knew what that meant. I knew what was coming. And I knew one thing for certain.

If we did not find him before tonight–I would never have a peaceful night’s sleep again.
