Chapter 129 — The Wolf in My Dreams
I couldn’t sit still, Ma'am Albright’s words kept replaying in my head.
It means war is coming. It means chaos. Plain white wolves are sent during tribulation.
These past few days, every time I closed my eyes, I saw it again.
The white wolf. Standing tall, calm and powerful.
A crown being placed gently on its head. The crowd bowed.
The wind moving through its fur. The feeling of weight and responsibility settling like iron around my heart.
I had to tell Edward. I couldn’t keep it from him anymore.
If something was coming–if the goddess had truly revealed something ahead of time–then Edward needed to prepare.
He is the ruling Alpha.
And if war was on the horizon, he needed to be ready for it.
But even though I was going to tell him something serious… something heavy…
I didn’t just run to his room. No, instead I stood in front of my mirror. For a long time. Too long.
I don’t know why I cared so much about how I looked at that moment.
Maybe because every time I stood in front of Edward, I wanted him to truly see me.
Like see me, more. I leaned closer to the mirror.
My hair had fallen slightly out of place, so I adjusted it, tucking a loose strand behind my ear. Then I pulled it back out again, letting it frame my face instead.
I turned slightly to the side. Was this dress too simple?
I smoothed the fabric down over my waist. It hugged my body gently but not tightly. Soft. Elegant.
I exhaled slowly.
“Why are you nervous?” I whispered to myself.
I touched my cheeks lightly. They were warm.
I leaned closer to the mirror again, studying my eyes. They looked different lately. Stronger.
But also… uncertain. I straightened my shoulders.
“You can do this,” I murmured.
Then I turned and walked out of my room. The hallway was quiet.
The mansion felt different at night. Softer. Shadows stretched along the walls, and the lights glowed warmly instead of brightly.
When I reached Edward’s door, I hesitated.
Then I knocked. A pause.
“Come in,” his voice came from inside.
I opened the door gently and stepped in.
He was sitting near his desk, sleeves rolled up slightly, as if he had been working. Papers were spread out in front of him.
He looked up.
And when he saw me, his expression softened immediately. “Elara.”
I closed the door behind me. “Hi.”
He wheeled toward me slowly.
“You’re still awake,” he said.
“So are you.”
He smiled faintly.
“Come here.”
I stepped closer.
He leaned up slightly and kissed my forehead gently.
That small gesture alone made my nervousness grow stronger.
“What’s wrong?” he asked quietly.
I blinked.
“Why do you think something is wrong?”
“You don’t usually come here this late unless something is on your mind.”
He knew me too well.
I took a deep breath.
“There is something I need to tell you.”
His expression changed instantly. Serious now.
“Okay,” he said calmly. “Tell me.”
I moved toward the couch near the window and sat down. He sat across from me, leaning forward slightly, giving me his full attention.
“I had a dream,” I began.
He didn’t interrupt.
“It wasn’t just any dream,” I continued. “It felt real. Like I was inside it.”
His eyes remained steady on mine.
“I saw a white wolf,” I said softly.
He didn’t react immediately.
“It was standing in front of a large crowd,” I continued. “And everyone was bowing.”
The room felt smaller as I spoke.
“And then someone placed a crown on its head.”
Edward’s jaw tightened slightly.
“I could feel everything,” I whispered. “The weight. The power. The responsibility.”
He stayed quiet for a few seconds.
Then he asked softly, “Elara… is your gifted power seeing?”
The question didn't surprise me.
I nodded slowly. “Yes.”
He studied me carefully.
“You’re a seer?”
“Yes.”
For a moment, something like pride flickered in his eyes.
“I’m happy for you,” he said gently.
That wasn’t the reaction I expected.
“You’re… not upset about the dream?” I asked.
“Why would I be?”
“I don’t know,” I admitted. “The dream. It’s dangerous. It means things.”
He leaned back slightly.
I swallowed.
“Edward… the white wolf… it's a plain white wolf that appeared in my dreams and you know what that means”
His expression darkened slightly.
“It means war,” I continued. “Chaos. Destabilization.”
He didn’t look shocked. He didn’t look panicked. He just looked… thoughtful.
“Why aren’t you worried?” I asked quietly.
He gave me a small, tired smile.
“Who said I’m not?”
I frowned.
“You don’t look worried.”
He wheeled towards the window.
“Wars come,” he said calmly. “Sometimes blood is spilled for a greater good.”
The words felt heavy.
He turned to face me.
“I’ve always known that leadership comes with battles,” he continued. “Visible and invisible ones.”
I stood up.
“But this is different,” I said. “The goddess saw something ahead of time. It might be to extreme this time.
“And she sent help,” he replied.
I blinked.
“What?”
“The white wolf,” he said. “If what you saw is true, then it means the goddess is on our side.”
His voice was steady.
“She sent a white wolf to help the ruling Alpha fight whatever is coming.”
My heart pounded.
“So you’re not scared?” I asked again.
“I am,” he admitted quietly. “But fear doesn’t change what’s coming.”
He wheeled closer to me.
“If anything, your dream is a blessing.”
“A blessing?” I repeated.
“Yes,” he said firmly. “It means we’re not alone.”
His confidence calmed something inside me.
“But we don’t know who the white wolf is,” Edward whispered.
He looked at me carefully.
“We’ll have to find out.”
Silence stretched between us.
I hesitated. My heart started racing again.
“There’s something else,” I said softly.
He waited.
“I think…” I paused.
“Say it,” he encouraged gently.
“I think I’m the white wolf.”
The words hung in the air between us. His eyes locked onto mine.
And at that moment, I was confused on how to feel. I wondered what Edward would make out of this.
