Chapter 97 CHAPTER 97
Rosaleen's POV
“A fox?" I repeated.
“A bloody nine tailed fox.”
The time was up. I could see the security guard approaching.
“Get me out of here,” he said, leaning forward. “I know your secrets as well.”
“Time's up,” he said, pulling Xavier up.
I smiled at him before he was taken away and whispered, “Enjoy.”
I was pleased with the information I'd just received. When Evelyn Moon had been accused of using black magic, I thought it was just a campaign to save face. Apparently, there was some truth to it. I had just gotten my bargaining card right now and it was a great one.
My mood was significantly improved when I returned to New York. Xavier was in jail and I had the ultimate card to destroy Evelyn Moon.
The bitches were still around, enjoying the vacation of their lives.
“Did you see the news, Rosa?” Phoebe asked, splashing in the pool.
“What news?"
“Xavier. Apparently, he had that girl against her will.”
I was sitting on one of the reclining chairs facing the pool with my shades on and a wide brimmed hat.
“That's a pity,” I said. “I didn't trust her statement though.”
Lara was watching me quietly like an owl. She had asked me where I went suddenly as soon as I returned and I had snapped that she should mind her business.
“Perhaps he turned out to be a nightmare,” Megan said, laughing. “She seemed to be having fun when we saw her in Ibiza.”
“I was going to say the same thing,” Lara added. “Where is she now though?”
“Like hell I'd know,” Megan replied. “She can vanish out of earth.”
She finished placing her sunscreen on every inch on her body and then stretched on her mat.
“You haven't told us what happened last night, Rosa,” she said, after only a few seconds of quiet.
“Exactly,” Phoebe joined. “Lara said you were pretty upset.”
The only thing I was concerned about was getting them out of my house.
Yet, I put on a smile and answered, “I was just worried he left without telling me. He never does that, you know. And his phone was unreachable.”
They made cheering sounds.
“Oh to be loved like this!” Phoebe screamed.
“So where is he now?” Megan asked. “Is that why you left without saying a word to us this morning?”
“I had something urgent to do,” I said. “Alpha Michael is fine. We've spoken.”
I couldn't wait for him to return from wherever he was having fun. He would never see whatever I had up my sleeves coming. I sipped my drink and waited.
—
It was almost 6pm when he arrived. He passed the sitting room like a ghost, only murmuring a low hello to my friends. Our eyes met and they told me all the story. He knew and he hated me.
I wanted for a few minutes before I followed him. He was in his room undoing his buttons when I stepped in.
“Where have you been?” I asked.
He ignored me and continued undressing.
“I'm talking to you.”
He moved away. “I'm sorry, I'm tired Rosaleen. I had to go on an urgent business trip. Unplanned.”
Business trip, indeed.
“Is that why you couldn't take my call or return my messages?” I asked, walking after him.
He stopped. “I was so occupied. I thought I responded to your text.”
“Don't try to mess with me, Michael," I said. “You went to see Evelyn Moon, didn't you?”
I saw the muscles of his temple contract. “What the hell are you talking about?"
“You went to see Evelyn Moon,” I repeated.
“You are out of your mind.” He turned away.
“I'm not a fool, Michael. Megan mentioned that we had seen her in Ibiza. The following day, you suddenly took a trip, a commercial flight. And that same day there's news that Evelyn was being held against her will by Xavier. Come on. The truth is very glaring.”
He faced me with amusement in his eyes and he walked towards me. His eyes burnt with anger despite the smile on his face and it made me shudder. He grabbed my dress between two of his fingers and leaned very close to me.
“Let's assume all you said is actually true, why are you here sulking?” he asked.
“Because I am your fiancée. You should have nothing to do with her again.”
“You've got what you've always wanted, Rosaleen. So leave me the fuck alone!”
I felt chill down my spine.
“This is the last time you'll ever ask me about my movements. I don't owe you that information.”
“How dare you. After all I did for your company. You can't talk to me as though I'm not the price. If you talk to Evelyn Moon again, you'll regret it.”
He scoffed and poured himself some drink.
“I mean it,” I continued. I'll be watching you. If you talk to Evelyn Moon, I'll know and I'll do things the Greywood family will feel for years to come.”
“You aren't the only one who has secrets, Rosaleen. I advise you to be careful what you wish for.”
“What will you say, Michael? That I stole her products? That I had her kidnapped? No one will believe the story of a nine tailed fox,” I pointed out.
He dropped the glass cup with a thud.
“She'll be shunned and you'll be disgraced. No one would want to do business with you. Poor Alpha Raymond may die from a broken heart.”
He faced me. “Who told you she's a nine tailed fox?”
“I…”
I realised I have given information I shouldn't have yet. And it was pretty damning information.
“I don't owe you an explanation,” I said. “I have my sources.”
I walked away and headed for the door. I pulled it angrily and three people scampered to their feet.
“What did we just hear, Rosaleen?”
“Are you such a leech that you're forcing yourself on Alpha Michael.”
“I told you girls,” Lara giggled. “I win the pot.”
