Chapter 95 CHAPTER 95
Rosaleen’s POV
When Megan told me she thinks Michael would not make it for the house party because he left in such a hurry in the afternoon, I felt my stomach churn.
“Why are you just telling me this now” I asked, my mind going faster than a race car.
She shrugged. “He’s your fiance. Did he tell you?”
I was in no mood for her sharp mouth.
“What exactly did he say?” Lara asked.
“He said he had important work at the office, and he would be back before it’s time for our party,” she said. “I thought Rosaleen would know. Anyways, who needs him here to have fun?”
“Right,” Phoebe said. “We can just make it our bridal shower.”
“You guys have fun,” I said, rushing away. “I need to find out what’s up with him.”
I rushed out of the room into mine, sweating profusely. I had a gut feeling that something was terribly wrong. Michael had no business in the company since he cleared his schedule for the week. I knew that.
Yet he wasn’t back.
How could I have missed that he wasn’t in all day?
I flung the band of flowers sitting on my head on the bed and placed a call to his phone. It rang and I paced about in the room. There was no response.
“Pick up. Pick up.” I repeated, sweating profusely.
Shit!
After trying to reach him numerous times without success, I called Xavier. It was the same thing. Ringing without response.
I was afraid to check the news because I knew it would confirm my worst fears.
“If I find a way out of this again, I promise to deal with this my way,” I said loudly, walking to the bathroom.
I walked out shortly after and looked for my face wipe. I wiped the make up on my face away, leaving uneven layers of foundation and lipstick. The sweating had made my make -up too uncomfortable for me. I needed to breathe.
Someone knocked on my door. "Who is it?” I yelled.
“It’s Lara.”
“I’ll be down soon,” I said. “Give me a moment, please.”
“Are you fine? You can always talk to me.”
I felt the strong urge to cry suddenly. I wished I could actually talk to these ladies. But I knew them. None of them cared for me and the feeling was mutual. They were only here because I had something to offer to them. As soon as they found out that I was at the brink of losing everything, they’d abandon me and spread my misery tales all over the world. There was no way I was going to tell any of them my secrets.
“Yes. Yes, I'm fine, Lara. I'll be with you all in a few minutes."
She pushed the door open. I turned around and she gasped. “What the hell happened to you?”
I turned away. "I told you not to come in,” I said.
She rushed to my side. “You are crying, Rosaleen. DId something happen to Alpha Michael?"
My voice broke and betrayed me. “I’m fine, Lara. Please. I’m just exhausted. Can you tell the girls that we are postponing the party? I’m sorry.”
“I’ll tell them,” she said. “Do you need anything?"
“No. I’m fine. Thank you, Lara.”
When she left, I locked the door and tried Xavier again. His phone rang without response. I sat on the bed, trembling.
I picked up my phone and pressed it between my palms. I had to check the news now. I typed his name on the news and I found an article immediately.
Xavier had been arrested.
—
I didn’t wait to hear from Michael the following day. I took the jet and flew to Barcelona. I found the detention centre where he was being held.
“I’m looking for Xavier Heart,” i said, leaning on the counter. “He was detained yesterday.”
The police officer hummed. “Xavier Heart.” he tapped on his screen. “Who are you?” he looked at me.
“I’m his friend. “ I pushed my ID card towards him.
He scrutinized it. “You have just five minutes for visiting,” he said, dropping the card in a box. “Ensure you collect your card before leaving.”
He directed me to another man who led me inside the block.
“You say you are friend of the man who was detained yesterday, ma’am?” he asked, leading me in. “Are you aware of the crime he committed?”
“I saw it in the news,” I answered. “I used to know his family.”
He opened a door and stepped aside. “Please, wait inside.”
I walked in and sat on the cold metal chair. It felt surreal that what we had planned so thoroughly had ended up crumbling like a pack of cards. I was angry with myself for letting Xavier hold so much power over me. I should have killed him when I had the opportunity to. He and that fucking Evelyn Moon. I imagined she was united with Michael and they were plotting against me.
I was not going to go down without a fight.
The door opened and Xavier stepped in, wearing orange scrubs. I refused to believe it until I saw him.
He smiled when he saw me and all I wanted to do was to slap him hard across the face.
”You came,” he said, sitting down.
“What the hell, Xavier!” I yelled, trying my best to contain my anger. “Is this something to smile about?”
“I tried,” he said. “Why were you not watching him? And how the hell did he know where I was?”
I bit my lips. “You promised me you were going to take care of it.”
“One of your friends must have ran their mouths,” he retorted. “I made sure I watched her. There was no way he could have found us.”
Megan had only mentioned Ibiza. Something bigger was at play here.
“You aren't telling me everything, Xavier. What happened?”
He tapped the metal case. I knew we had only a few seconds left. “She's a witch,” he said.
“What do you mean?” I asked, irritated.
He leaned closer. “She is a nine tailed fox.”
