Chapter 82 CHAPTER 82
Rosaleen’s POV
I tossed on my large bed, unable to sleep. The face of Evelyn Moon haunted my dream trip. When I closed my eyes, I saw her face. My chest tightened from worry. Why was it so hard to get rid of her? Despite how slim the odds were that I would see her again, she still defied it. I turned to my side, uncomfortable on the bed. Will I allow her to keep haunting me or do I need to take matters into my own hands? I should have killed her when I had the chance to do it.
Xavier had showed up in front of our condo, raising brows. I wondered why he thought it’d be such a good idea to show up where I had three pairs of eyes and ears watching and listening. I knew the girls were whispering and exchanging theories because I could not give them a sane answer as to why Xavier Heart, the lover of my fiance’s ex fiancee, was at my door.
“I’m taking care of it,” he said. “Don’t worry about it. She has lost all her memories.”
It seemed incredulous. “How does one lose all their memories?” I asked him, pulling him aside.
“I have a pill she takes everyday,” he answered. “She doesn’t remember who she is or who you are. It’s crazy that we stumbled on each other again despite the miles I tried to put between us.”
What was crazy was he showing up like that.
I flipped the switch on and got out of bed. Could I really trust Xavier to handle Evelyn? It seemed his obsession for her was blocking his reasoning. Alpha Michael was actively searching for her. All it would take to ruin everything I had worked hard for would be a single jolt of memory. She would place a call again and Michael would track her down.
I told him so. “What if she remembers eventually?”
“She won’t,” he promised me.
I didn’t take his promise seriously. I didn't trust him.
I stepped into the bathroom and sat under the shower. I let the cold water run through my hair and down my back. I closed my eyes and tried to think of happy thoughts. Of my wedding. Of becoming the wife of Alpha Michael Greywood. But my vision kept getting interrupted by the thoughts that Evelyn would show up someday. As long as she was alive, she would always show up and ruin my life.
I opened my eyes.
It might be time for me to take matters into my own hands. I couldn’t trust anyone. He could use her to blackmail me in the future. I could never have any peace as long as Evelyn Moon lived.
In the morning, I took a stroll out of the room very early, hoping to have some quiet time by the pool before anyone else wakes up. I saw Phoebe sitting there already. I joined her.
“The other girls are still asleep?” I asked.
“Long night,” she said, sipping her juice.
She was hinting that they’d spent the night together, most likely talking about me. I didn’t need the hint to know.“That guy who showed up last night, that’s Xavier, right?” she asked.
I nodded, refusing to take her bait.
“What did he want? Lara said she saw him together with that lady… Evelyn.”
The gossip would never stop. When Lara got kicked out of her marriage, the gossip had been centered around her. Megan still called her miserable even though she was successful. I agreed with her because why was she such a poke noser?
It was too early to get my mood ruined. At the same time, letting them take charge of the narration was not good for me. If news got out through any of them that they had seen Evelyn moon, it could be the end. “He came to plead with me,” I said, my tone sharp. “I told Lara that already.”
“Plead with you?” she asked, ignoring my tone.
“Yes. He begged me that Evelyn was already losing her mind and her memory and I should not give up their location.”
She swung her feet in the water. “But no one is looking for them, Rosaleen. I’m not following this story.”
There were so many versions of the lies in my head that it was beginning to get jumbled up. She was right. Alpha Michael was not looking for her. At least not officially or in that sense.
“My head is foggy, Phoebe,” I said, yawning. “Can we talk about something else?”
Megan returned that morning looking like every bit of whatever had transpired between her and the hot man throughout the night.
“Oh… he was a beast,” she bragged on and on. “I might be tempted to ditch my husband for him.”
Lara huffed.
Phoebe sighed.
I was distracted. I needed to get my story straight to avoid unnecessary suspicions. I knew how bitchy these women were. They’d be the first to tear me to pieces if they found out the truth of what had happened between Evelyn and I.
So I tempted them with shopping. Something to get their minds away from all the gossip for a while. When I was alone, I pulled out my phone and called Igantio.
“I need your help again,” I whispered in the changing room. I had paid him handsomely for taking care of Marcus discreetly. He was a pro with his job. And I was ready to pay even more handsomely to put an end to the biggest problem on my back.
“Who?” he asked.
“Evelyn Moon,” I said. “And Xavier Heart.”
He didn’t say anything. The call ended. The next time I'd hear from him, it would be to give me the news of their death. My world would be a saner place with both of them gone.
The call lifted up my mood when I joined the girls. We spent a couple more days in Ibiza before we left.
