Chapter 69 CHAPTER 69
Rosaleen's POV
I was sipping the last pour of my cheap wine as I watched the news. The air conditioning unit in the apartment had been disconnected, but I felt chills in my bones watching what I had accomplished.
Micheal was not giving the speech directly but I could imagine the pain in his heart hearing Jasper read out his speech.
I took a long sip. “I warned you Evelyn Moon,” I said out loud. No one messes with Rosaleen Blackwood.
I admired the way the Greywoods had spinned the story to minimise any damage on them. In fact, they were getting a lot of sympathy and the Calderons were getting the hit.
I raised my leg from the floor and placed my feet on the centre table. There was no better way for me to have imagined this victory. I was pretty sure Alpha Raymond would be putting massive pressure on his son to take me as his wife.
I swirled the last drop of drink in the cup before emptying it in my throat. My next mission was to make Alpha Michael fall heads over heels in love with me.
My phone vibrated on the glass table. I leaned forward and stared at the screen. It was Roman. Again. He'd been blowing my phone up all day. I reached for it and swiped the call icon, then placed the speakers on.
“Roman,” I said.
“I've been calling you all day,” he fired. “What the hell is going on?”
I wriggled my toes. "What do you mean?”
“Haven't you seen the news?”
“I have. I'm currently watching it. There's so much going on so you have to be specific.”
“You bitch,” he cursed. “Was this your plan?”
I chuckled. “I still can't understand what you mean Alpha Roman.”
“You conniving bastard. You planned this all with Xavier. To steal from me and make a fool out of me.”
I leaned forward. “Easy, Roman. It was you who introduced me to Xavier Heart, remember. I knew him through you.”
“No!” He yelled. “You both worked this plan so perfectly. You had me sidelined. Then you pulled your company away from the contract. You both planned this.”
I laughed. “You are getting paranoid, Roman. And even if you think we planned it all, do you have proof?”
“I have insurance, Rosaleen. And I'll use it.”
I laughed. “Check again.”
I waited as the call went silent. Jolene had been useful. She hated him enough when she found out he had her videos too. It was easy for her to get access to all his cloud accounts and the USB drives in his office.
“What the hell did you do?” His voice returned on the call minutes later.
I laughed. “I hope you have a good lawyer, Roman. And I hope he does pro bono cases. You'll need it.”
I tapped on the red call icon and the call ended.
“Loser.” I blocked his number.
A second call came from Ignatio a few minutes later.
“It's done,” he said.
He didn't need to say more than that.
“Fantastic. You'll get some money soon,” I responded.
Marcus was out of the way too. It was just a straight path between me and all my dreams - wife of Alpha Michael Greywood and the most important woman in New York.
The icing on the case came that evening. I had not expected that I'd hear from Michael so soon. I stared at the message on my screen. I'd just woken up from a nap and it seemed like I was still in a dream for a moment.
‘Dinner today? Usual place and time.’
I read it on my feet and pinched myself. It was real. Alpha Raymond was keeping to his word.
I found the series dress in my wardrobe.I had only about an hour to prepare for one of the most important dates of my life. It was a liquid black satin gown with a dramatic back cut that ended just above the curve of my hips. No underwear at all. The thigh high slit was everything I needed in a sexy dress, tempting but not revealing. It was enough to make any man lust after me. There was no time for a flamboyant or glam makeover, so I did some smoky eyes and accessorised lightly.
I'd dreamt of the day when Evelyn would be finally gone but I had no idea it would be the day I would get Michael back. He was wearing a black suit and already seated when I arrived.
He rose up to welcome me. “You look stunning,” he said, his eyes lightening up.
I gave him my hand and he kissed it before ushering me to my seat.
“I was hoping you'd show up,” he said, returning to his seat. “The notice was quite short and I received no response from you.”
I smiled. Was he kidding me? I could never turn down a date with him.
“I was in so much haste that I forgot to respond.”
He returned the smile. “I hope you came with an empty stomach?”
I stretched my hand on the table and touched his arm. “I'm sorry about everything. I heard. It must be hard on you and I think it's very brave of you to be with me right now.”
He rubbed my hand. “I should be the one apologising. I was blinded by whatever dark magic she had on me and I almost lost you.”
His words did magic to my heart. I felt it flutter.
“I'm glad it's all over now,” I said. “It's time for a new start.”
He squeezed my hand. “Yes. I have something to ask you, Rosaleen?”
He reached for his breastpocket and pulled out a little box. My heart raced.
“No!” I screamed in delight, my hand flying to my mouth.
“No?” He coc
ked his brows.
I giggled. “I mean, yes.”
He popped the box open. “Will you marry me Rosaleen?”
