Chapter 44 CHAPTER 44
Rosaleen’s POV
I poured myself a drink as soon as I got into my apartment. It was a brand new drink, and as the cork popped out, I screamed out in delight. I kicked off my heels somewhere between the kitchen and the sitting room and my tired feet sank into the softness of the plush carpet. Victory tasted great.
When Tamara arrived about half an hour later, I was pretty stoned already. She walked in as though she was stepping on egg shells on the floor.
“Feel at home,” I said. “Consider this as my thank you for saving me.”
“I bought some bars,” she said.
“Let’s have some wine, dear,” I said as she dropped the box on the table. I laughed gently. “Evelyn’s face when you denied her has to be the best thing I've seen this year.”
I poured out some drinks for her. “I hope you drink? Don't be a spoilsport."
“Sure,” Tamara said, collecting the half filled glass.
“She’s going to learn to be in her place by the time I'm done with her,” I continued.
“She’ll be gone in less than a year's time any way,” Tamara said and it almost ruined my mood.
“Are you saying I should let her be since she’s just here temporarily?”
She laughed nervously. “Not at all, Rosaleen. She doesn’t deserve a day here.”
We strolled to the kitchen later on to warm some bacon. Tamara leaned on the counter, still sipping her first glass of wine slowly.
She made me miss Marcus. He had so much wicked vibes that matched mine.
“Do you think he’ll eventually kick her out? I’m beginning to think he has a soft spot for her,” she said.
I chuckled. “By the time I’m done, there’ll be no spot for her.”
I half danced to the microwave. “You were the star of the show, Tam. That final blow. I was struggling to keep all my excitement in. She thought you would defend her. What a dunce.”
“At this point, it’s safe to say you owe me, right?” she teased.
I glanced at her and laughed softly. “Are we still counting favours, Tam? I thought we were friends now?”
She mumbled something in reply.
“This will take a couple of minutes," I said, walking out of the kitchen.
She raised the cup in her hand and gave a long sip as I walked out. I returned to the sitting room and watched the clock. Two minutes. When I returned to the kitchen, Tamara was at the dining table, bent over some bills.
“What are these?” she asked, raising her head.
I lunged forward and snatched the bills. “It’s nothing. Why are you snooping around?”
“I was just -”
“They are nothing,Tam. Stop ruining the night."
The remaining part of the night passed slowly. We decided to see a romcom together, but Tamara ended up sleeping midway. When my phone buzzed, I walked into my room and locked the door. It was Ignatio.
“Hey. don't spoil my evening,” I said, dropping on my bed and rolling to my side.
“I’m afraid I don't have good news,” he said.
“You never do. What is it?”
“Marcus has been getting a lot of visitors in recent times,” he said. "A lawyer was there today.”
I bit my lips. “How can he even afford a lawyer?”
“You need to be prepared to take drastic actions if the need arises, Rosa. He didn’t take the betrayal lightly. I’m afraid he might start talking.”
I sighed. “That’s why I have you. You’ll take care of it. And find his sponsor too.’
After the call, I rolled to my back and faced the ceiling. I felt a bit nauseous from the drink and the unpleasant news. I was worried that Marcus seemed to be fighting back. I knew he didn’t have anyone or the money to afford justice. The news had successfully ruined my night.
I sat up, calculating. If Marcus was making a move, it meant I had less time. If the news of whatever had happened in Milan came out before I secured Michael, then I was done for. What I had done for Greywood industries wouldn’t matter a bit.
The following morning, I went straight to Alpha Raymond's office. He was rarely in the office these days, but through some means, I had been able to make sure he was in. I knew he was struggling with his political dreams, thanks to Evelyn Moon. He already hated her, and I just needed to give him more reasons to like me.
I tapped gently on the door and pushed it open. A couple of gentlemen were seated in the office with him.
“Oh, I’m so sorry,” I said. “Perhaps another time.”
“Rosaleen,” he called out before I turned away. “Come in. Come in.”
I walked in and smiled politely at his guests. “What do you need?”
“I wanted to speak with you in private,"I said, glancing at the other men in the room. “It’s actually about a new product, but it can wait.”
“Nonsense,” he waved his hand. “Tell me about it.” He turned to his guests. “Gentlemen, please give the lady a few minutes.”
I held a plastic smile on my face as they walked out of the room.
“Sit down.” he gestured at the seat in front of him.
I nodded gently and pulled the chair out.
“So what is this product you want to talk about?’
I brought out the second parcel I had made and pushed it towards him.
“A bracelet?” he asked.
“No,” I laughed.
Then I told him about MateLink and how it worked. I spoke as much as I could remember from the rehearsal with Tamara.
“This is unique,” he said, his eyes beaming wth pride. “It is definitely something the board would be excited to see. Good job, Rosaleen!”
I beamed. “Thank you sir. I just need your permission to start building the product and get a timeline for launching it.”
“Absolutely. Let me know anything you’d need. You are doing a fantastic job here.”
“Thank you so much, sir,” I said.
“Please call me Raymond."
