Chapter 19 CHAPTER 19
Rosaleen’s POV
The elevator stopped at the penthouse and I stepped out of it into the apartment. I threw my fur coat and made a mental note to return it the following day. The apartment was too cold. I reached for the heating units and turned it on. I kicked off my Louboutins heels and squeezed my toes. The shoes were last season, but who was looking? I was Rosaleen Blackwood, the princess of NY, living in an apartment that cost more than I had in my account monthly.
Not for long though. I was going to take back my seized accounts.
I walked into the kitchen and pulled out an expensive bottle. A Macallan that was gifted to me by a low level rich Alpha who thought an expensive wine could buy my attention. I poured some into glass cups that turned amber as the drinks filled up.
Alpha Raymond. He had made everything I went through to show up at the fundraiser's night in borrowed glam worth it. I got his attention and his poor heart. I caught my reflection on my phone and smiled. Who wouldn’t fall for this precious face?
The intercom in the living room buzzed and I strolled in to see who it was. Marcus. I rolled my eyes and let him in.
He strolled in, watching me and I looked at him too. I knew the designers he was wearing was not within his budget too. I hadn't paid him in months. He had his manicure newly done, which was the only thing I was sure he could afford.
“You are always late these days, Marcus,” I said, swinging the bottle. "I was already drinking without you.”
He didn’t smile. “We have a problem," he said.
I collapsed on the sofa. “The only problem I can see here is you are still standing.”
He tapped his tablet on and flashed an article in front of me. “The DA in Milan has reopened the embezzlement case. I thought you said you took care of it?”
The wine suddenly tasted sour in my mouth. “Marcus, do you know how to read the room? Why do you have to ruin my night?’
He sat down beside me.”I’m getting calls from the DA’s office. Do you think this is a joke? You promised me that it was a misunderstanding and you had taken care of it.”
I held his arm. “And I'll take care of it again. Don’t you have faith in me? I’ll sort it. Let’s have a drink.”
But the night was ruined already. When Marcus left, I spent half an hour pacing around the room. When I decided to come to New York, I had a plan. The plan was to convince Alpha Michael to marry me, then use his money to pay up my debts and use his influence to close up my case. But a leech was already attached to him. I had to find a way to gain entry into Greywood. It was the only way I wouldn’t end up in jail.
I tapped on the kitchen countertop repeatedly. I needed to take Evelyn Moon down, one way or the other. There were still no messages from the anonymous person who had helped me leak her picture. it seemed there was nothing more from that end. I needed information, anything I could work with.
I called Tamara, and listened to the phone ring. “You better pick,’ I groaned, leaning on the counter.
“Hey,” her sleepy voice broke through the humming sound of the phone.
“Tam, thank God!” I leaned up and walked to the living room.
She groaned. “It’s 1 am, Rosa. Is there a problem?”
“Yes! I need information, Tam. Dirt on Evelyn Moon. Give me back story of how she met Alpha Michael. What is he using to tie him down? Is she pregnant for him? Give me info.”
She murmured and said something inaudible. “Do you have to call me this late for that? i don’t have any information for you.’
i snickered. “Find out, Tam. And i need these info like yesterday.”
“What the hell is wrong with you, Rosa? Calling me so late and talking like I owe you something-”
“You do owe me, Tam,” i said, dropping a card i thought i wouldn’t use so soon. “For my silence. You’d give me the infomation i want in exchange that your little hubby doesn’t know that -”
“fine. fine. i’ve heard you loud and clear. I’ll see what i can find out.”
“i knew you were sensible,” i said, crossing my legs.
“but i’ll need time. Give me a week.”
“i glanced at the hotel bill that had arrived that morning. Twenty six thousand. i didn’t have a week. “Twenty four hours,Tam. Thank you hun.”
I fell asleep on the couch and didn’t wake up until past 10 am the following day. when i arrived at the office by noon, i saw Evelyn Moon walking to the Executives’ floor, her hair packed up and more formally dressed. Could see find a way to annoy me less?
I sank on my chair and couldn’t do anything productive that day. I Was constantly jumping at the slightest sound from my phone. I was desperately hoping tamara would have the right information i needed. When i couldn’t hold it anymore, I strolled to her office. She pretended to be happy to see me.
“So, do you have anything for me yet?” i asked, swinging my shoes at the doorway.
She gestured for me to come in and reduced her voice to a whisper. “I have something interesting for you.”
My heart flipped three sixty degrees. i stepped in and closed the door gently. “What do you have?”
She pushed her chair and stood up, then she walked around the table and sat on the sofa.”i tired to squeeze some information from jasper today. He wouldn’t budge at first, but then he finally told me something important.”
i raised my brows.
“the day he had brought Evelyn Moon to the house, there was a contract on the table which she signed before they actually wedded." She paused. “the marriage between Evelyn Moon and Alpha Michael is fake.”
