Chapter 126 CHAPTER 126
Rosaleen’s POV
“That birthmark,” I said, circling her as she returned with the pizza boxes. She placed the boxes on the bed and wrapped her fingers over the mark.
“What about it?” she asked.
I looked at it. Was it such a coincidence that she looked like Alpha Michael, and even more strikingly so now that we were up close? Was this birthmark a coincidence too?
“It looks familiar,” I said. “Were you adopted?”
She spun around. “You are freaking me out, Rosaleen,” she said, laughing gently. “You aren’t drunk yet, are you?”
I was thinking about the possibilities. I knew Alpha Micahel’s mother was pregnant when she was killed. It was said that the baby died, but what if she had survived? I shook my head. There was no way on earth that alpha Raymond's child would end up being raised as a Moon.
“I think the wine is getting to me already,” I said. “Don’t mind me.”
She unlocked one of the boxes. “You were already beginning to scare me,” she said.
She was full of energy. She danced and drank and ate, but I sat quietly, chewing the pizza that was gradually losing its taste in my mouth. There was still no call from Ignatio yet.
Then it hit me suddenly.
“How did your mum know what happened? I mean, was she there?”
Anna frowned. “What?” The words drew out in a slur.
“Was your mum there on the day that Evelyn’s mother killed alpha Michael's mother?”
She stared at me for a few seconds, then she shrugged. “I wasn’t born then. How would I know?”
Anna’s age fitted perfectly into the timeline. My heart was racing fast with the realization that was about to hit me. If Anna was Alpha Raymond’s daughter, then I would have helped the Greywoods to find their long lost daughter. That would make them all indebted to me. Moreover, Anna and I were off to a good start. She would definitely want me as her sister in law.
So I smiled at her, drank a little more and continued our little conversations until she fell asleep. She was snoring gently on the chair when I walked up to her with a blade in my hand. I cut off a few strands of her hair that I was sure she would not miss. Then I placed them in a bag.
I tapped her gently, and when she didn't respond. I carried her on my back and placed her on my bed. I had to treat her as a Greywood from now on. She was my ticket to ruining Evelyn Moon and returning to Alpha Michael.
I woke early and I sat in the small sitting room, nursing a hangover with some strong tea. I was scrolling through my phone, watching the chaos that had erupted overnight. The news had finally dropped and there were some protests.
I didn’t really think the news would affect the Greywoods as much as it did now. It seemed I had calculated wrongly. The company was calling for Alpha Michael to resign as CEO if he did not announce his divorce. Alpha Raymond was not going to win the elections and Greywoods stocks were dropping badly.
I leaned forward. There was no statement from the Greywoods yet. I wondered if Alpha Michael would remain adamant and refuse to break his contract marriage with Evelyn. It was when she yawned and stretched beside me that I noticed I was not alone. Anna stood beside me, her hair dishevelled and stains on her shirt.
“What is that?” she asked, squinting at my phone.
I raised it close to her. She frowned. “It’s on the news?”
“Yes,” I replied, smiling. “We did it.”
“No,” she said. “I thought you were… it was not supposed to be all over the news, Rosaleen. You said you were going to tell the Greywoods, so that they can chase Evelyn away.”
I blinked, confused. “Is there a problem?”
“Yes,” she cried. “In case you haven’t noticed, I am a Moon too. This affects me also. I can't go through another round of bullying because of my step sister and her evil family.”
I wished I could tell her that she need not worry anymore. That there was a high chance that she was actually a Greywood.
“This is the only way to get their attention, Anna. I’m sorry -”
“No,” she yelled. “You have to take the news down. This wasn’t our agreement.”
I rose up. “We didn't agree that I wasn't going to broadcast it, Anna. That was the whole idea.”
“Shit, shit.” she cried. “My mum would know it was me. I mean, I don't care if it hurts Evelyn but it hurts us too.”
I would have told her to get lost. That I didn’t give a damn about what she felt. I really didn’t but I was interested in something better.
“It will be alright, anna,” I said, placing my arm on her shoulder. “You can stay with me for the next few days. You can even quit your job.”
She stared at me. “Did Alpha Michael take you back already?”
I smiled. I was certain that he was not going to say no. The pressure was on. “Yes,” I lied. “Alpha Michael and I are going to get married.”
She beamed. “You should have said that all these while. I thought my life was about to end again. When do we move into the mansion?” she swayed. “I need to live a life of pampering, Rosaleen. Evelyn has had it all for too long. I need new clothes, new shoes, bags, a trip, new friends, money and everything!”
She spun around and stopped. She frowned. “What is it?”
I didn't plan to tell her but I said it before i could stop myself. “I think you are a Greywood.”
Her face twisted in laughter. “What? Are you kidding me?”
“No,” I replied. “I think Madeline rescued you that day when your real mother was killed.”
