Chapter 103 CHAPTER 103
Evelyn’s POV
My fingers ran over his desk and I closed my eyes. It felt like I was touching him. I whispered his name. I was in Alpha Micahel’s office concerning his offer. I was going to take it but I had my own terms.
I heard footsteps and the door swung open. I spun around and saw Rosaleen.
“Michael -” she was calling out.
I smiled. Michael was not here. Not yet.
“Hello, Rosaleen,” I said, still smiling. “It’s been a while.”
She stepped forward. “You,” she said. Her eyes scanned the whole room. I moved away from the desk.
“Alpha Michael is not here,” I said. “He’ll be here soon.”
“What the fuck are you doing here?” she asked.
I smirked. “Rosaleen, I have an appointment here with Alpha Michael. I don’t know if he’s expecting you too. But we can both sit in silence before he arrives.”
She stepped forward and her eyes fell on the slight bulge of my tummy. I saw the look of realization creep into her eyes. “You slut!” she yelled. “You are trying to snatch Michael from me but I won't allow it. Never.”
I yawned and dropped the brochure I was reading on the desk. “I’m not trying to snatch Alpha Michael from you,” I said. "He is all yours. I’m here for business."
Then I stepped closer to her. “And since I've met you today, I have to let you know that I’ll come for you soon. So enjoy this little life of yours while you can.”
“I’ll crush you,” she responded. “I’ll make sure I destroy you before you grow any wings.”
Just then, the door opened and Alpha Michael stepped in. I smiled at him.
“I’ve been waiting. Luckily for me, Rosaleen has been keeping me company.”
He glanced at Rosaleen and I could see that all was not well between them.
“I didn't know you would respond so fast, Evelyn," he said, easing towards his desk.
“Please, have a seat.” Then he looked at Rosaleen. “Please, give us a minute.” She scowled.
“I’m here to discuss something very important with you, Alpha Michael. And you should hear me out before you make any deals with her.”
She knew I was fighting for my products. I smiled. I knew she was fired from the company too. I guess things were not going as pleasant as she had hoped.
“I’ll send for you as soon as I am done with Evelyn,” he said, gesturing towards the door.
She mumbled something incoherent and walked out.
“I’m sorry about that,” he said. “I’m not starting on such a good note, am I?”
I bobbed my head sideways. “Not at all.”
“I didn't think you’d take my offer so quickly,” he said, a gleam in his eyes.
I didn’t think so either. Perhaps it was because I wanted to see him again. I wasn’t interested in cutting deals with the Greywoods.
“A tech consultant role at Greywoods is not something one comes across everyday,” I said and leaned forward. “And the thing you said about my products?”
His eyes narrowed and lingered on me. “Let’s discuss that on a date?”
But why did my heart skip a beat when he said so?
“A date?” I repeated.
“Yes. You look like you need a date.”
I raised my brow. “What does that mean?”
“I mean, I miss you Evelyn Moon. And this thing we are doing,” he said, gesturing in the air. “It doesn’t help. I thought seeing you would not make my heart beat wildly.” He sighed in resignation. “I was wrong.”
I remained silent. I knew he could easily read it from my face that we were in the same dilemma.
“So a date?”
I smiled. A date would provoke Rosaleen. And how much I wanted to provoke her!
“No promises,” I said.
I was already picturing the dress I'd wear. If I could not be with him, the least I could do was to make myself happy with him while I could. So we could pretend we were meeting to talk about business when we both knew that we burnt for each other.
—
I returned home feeling a bit dampened. I wanted more than I could have. I wanted to know how my mum was able to walk away from it all. Was walking away really the best thing?
She was in the sitting room, watching the TV when I stepped inside. She knew immediately that something was wrong as soon as she saw me.
“Tough day at work?” she asked.
I mumbled a reply and threw my bag on the chair. Then I sat down beside her. “I saw him yesterday.”
She didn’t ask who. She knew immediately.
I sighed. “It was tough, mum. It was freaking tough.”
She squeezed my thigh. “It’ll get easier.”
I shook my head. “I don’t think I am that strong, mum.” I looked at her. “How did you do it? Because I'm getting convinced that it’s either you didn’t love dad or you are just … different.”
She sighed. “It was very tough. But I had a very strong motivation. Madeline was going to ruin everything I had left. The thought that you could have a future kept me going.”
I looked at my tummy. I wasn’t feeling motivated to be away from alpha Michael. All I wanted right now was to be on his bed, leaning against his chest while he massaged my tired feet.
“I guess it’ll come with time,” I replied, rising to my feet.
For now, I was going to go on a date with Alpha Michael by 8pm and I was not going to feel guilty about it.
I took a brief nap and got up by 6pm. Then I started dressing up. I had two choices of dress for the date but I decided to go for the one I had worn on our last date.
Nostalgia. If there was any chance that we would get back together, it was going to be tonight.
