Chapter 101 CHAPTER 101
Michael's POV
I watched her as she left. Visibly she was different. But she was still the same person.
“You should be fired for letting that little girl spit in all our faces,” Alpha Raymond said, facing Calvin. “I don't pay you so much to be this useless.”
His core was shaken by my father's outburst. He trembled as he packed his case.
“I'm sorry, Alpha Raymond. This won't repeat itself.”
“It won't because you are fired! Get out!”
The young lawyer scrambled out of the room.
“You were harsh on him,” I said. “It's not his fault that there's nothing to defend in this case.”
I rose up. “You should give her what's hers and negotiate for the cut. We won't win this case in court. She'll get the jury's sympathy.”
“Sit down,” he said.
I contemplated on refusing but eventually sat down.
“You still feel something for that girl? You feel sorry for her?”
I crossed my arm. “She worked hard for those products. They were stolen from her and she was humiliated multiple times. I think she's gracious by not suing us.”
“You should be on our side, Michael. You were speaking to her just before the meeting. What were you telling her?”
I stood up. “Is this all, father? I have to be on my way.”
I walked out of the room, feeling nothing but resentment for him. I had sacrificed my own happiness for his political ambition, what more did he want from me?
I collapsed on my chair in the office. Seeing Evelyn today had undone everything I'd worked so hard to stop feeling in the last few weeks. I could never bring myself to hate her and I understood why she did what she did.
But damn, when she closed her eyes, all I wanted to do was to kiss her. To kiss her until we were both out of breath.
I thought about the baby. She didn't deny it so my guess was right. We had been intimate once but I had no idea if Xavier had also been intimate with her.
Or if she had been with someone else since we broke up.
I still wanted her and I was frustrated I couldn't get what I'd yearned for all my life- my mate.
Jasper pushed the door open and knocked on it.
“It should be the other way round,” I snapped at him.
He strolled in. “I knew you were mad, wanted to make you madder. How did you feel seeing her today?”
“She's pregnant,” I blurted out.
He raised his brows. “Yours?”
“I can't tell, Jasper. I have a strong feeling it's mine. But why would she keep it from me?”
The answer was obvious. She wanted to leave and a pregnancy would have tied us together.
“It might be the other guy's,” Jasper said and my chest tightened with anger. The thought of him laying his hands on her filled me with rage.
I stood up suddenly.
“Where are you off to?”
“To see Evelyn Moon.”
I went to her office under the guise of business. To be honest, we needed a tech consultant but it wasn't my place to visit the firms I was interested in. But no one can query a CEO for doing too much.
I was impressed by Moon's enterprise's new look. It wasn't just in the structure, but it was in the figures. She was doing a fantastic job.
The secretary greeted me enthusiastically. She checked through her record. “Do you have an appointment, sir?”
I smiled. If only she knew I was the owner of fifty percent of this company.
“No.”
She rose up. “Please, sit down sir. I'll inform Miss Moon.”
I paced around the small cubicle instead. I was glad I had acquired the company when Xavier had put it up for sale. It was my gift to Evelyn, but I was yet to reveal my identity.
The secretary returned. “Please, go in, Alpha Michael.” She said holding the door.
“Thank you.”
Her head was bent over her laptop and her brows were furrowed in concentration. The door closed behind me.
She looked up. “Seeing you twice today. What a rare pleasure!”
I smiled. “Is this how you treat your clients?”
She nudged at the chair in front of her. “Welcome to Moon's enterprise, Alpha Michael.”
I sat down.
“Are you here for business or you are here to tell me not to take what belongs to me.”
I was wrong. She was different now. Her eyes burnt with a quiet rage in them.
“No,” I said leaning back. “I came here for two things.”
She folded her hands over each other. She was more composed than the woman I had met earlier in the day.
“What are those, Alpha Michael?”
“One,” he said. “I want to hire your services as an IT consultant at Greywoods.”
She laughed. “That's not how it's done, Alpha Michael.”
“It's a tempting offer. An opportunity to collaborate with our technical team and get those contracts only working for us can guarantee.”
If she was pleased, she didn’t show it.
“And?”
I leaned forward.. “I’m willing to help you get back your products from my company. You just need to trust me.”
She laughed. “Why?”
“Why what?” I asked.
“Why do you want to help me, and why should I trust you? My lawyer is doing just fine.”
I smiled. I wasn’t going to tell her the length my father could go for his greed.
“I want to help you because I know it's the right thing to do,” I said. “And whether you can trust me or not? Evelyn, you know the answer.”
“Your father is going to pull up some dangerous cards, right?” she asked.
He was going to hurt her and everything she owned. I couldn’t watch that happen. I knew as long as Evelyn Moon walked on the same earth as I did that I would always protect her, and this would always put me at loggerheads with my family.
