Chapter 6 Restless Over Her

Chapter 6 Restless Over Her
Lucian’s POV

Something about her refused to leave my mind.

No matter how I tried to push it aside, it stayed.

Quiet.

Persistent.

Unsettling.

Aryan’s behavior earlier replayed again and again. The way he spoke to her. The way he looked at her. The way he held her hand without hesitation, like it was something he had done a hundred times before.

That wasn’t normal.

It wasn’t new.

It was familiar.

And that familiarity—

It irritated me more than I wanted to admit.

I turned my gaze slightly, looking at Selene sitting beside me. Her expression remained calm, untouched, as if none of it mattered. As if Aryan’s attention, his eagerness, his closeness meant nothing at all.

That indifference…

It bothered me.

More than it should.

“Just so you know,” I said, breaking the silence, keeping my voice steady, controlled, “we’re still engaged.”

She didn’t look at me.

Didn’t respond.

Not even a slight shift in her expression.

So I continued.

“Aryan is a public figure. If anything gets out, it won’t be good for the Frostbane family.”

Still nothing.

Her calm felt deliberate.

Like she was choosing not to react.

“And besides,” I added, my tone turning sharper without me trying to hide it, “it won’t be easy for you to marry into the Larson family.”

That made her look at me.

Finally.

Her eyes met mine.

Clear.

Cold.

Unmoved.

“You’re two years older than him, aren’t you?”

The words sounded casual.

But they weren’t.

There was weight behind them.

Meaning.

Something I didn’t bother to soften.

For a second—

Silence.

Then her expression changed.

The calm disappeared.

Her eyes darkened, sharp and cutting as they held mine.

“My relationship,” she said, her voice steady but firm, “is none of your business.”

She didn’t raise her voice.

She didn’t need to.

“Stop commenting on it.”

For a moment, I just looked at her.

And something inside me snapped.

This woman…

How could she act like this?

So distant.

So composed.

As if nothing mattered.

As if I didn’t matter.

My jaw tightened.

But I said nothing.

Not another word.

The rest of the ride passed in silence.

Heavy.

Uncomfortable.

Filled with things left unsaid.

The moment we stepped out of the car, I walked ahead without waiting.

I didn’t look back.

Didn’t check if she was following.

I didn’t care.

Or at least—

That was what I told myself.

That night—

Sleep didn’t come.

It never really did.

Not since I was thirteen.

Not since that night.

I still remembered it clearly.

Being taken.

Dragged away from Firstband.

Locked in a room with no windows.

No light.

No moon.

Nothing.

Just darkness.

And silence.

And fear.

Since then, sleep had become something distant.

Unreliable.

Something I couldn’t control.

But tonight—

It wasn’t just the past.

It was her.

Selene Nightshade.

Her face.

Her voice.

Her eyes.

Everything about her kept replaying in my mind.

Again.

And again.

And again.

She didn’t deny it.

The thought came suddenly.

Sharp.

Clear.

When I mentioned Aryan—

She didn’t deny anything.

Not even once.

Did that mean…

She was admitting it?

I frowned, staring at the ceiling, irritation settling deep in my chest.

“Dylan,” I called out to my wolf.

A low presence stirred within me.

“What?” he responded, his tone lazy but aware.

I paused.

Then spoke.

“Last night… I slept better than usual.”

Silence.

“How did you sleep?”

Dylan let out a slow breath.

“I slept well,” he said. “Because I remembered something.”

My eyes narrowed slightly.

“What?”

“Holding her.”

My chest tightened.

Subtle.

But real.

“When I held Selene,” Dylan continued quietly, “I didn’t struggle to sleep.”

Silence followed.

That feeling…

Even I remembered it.

The calm.

The quiet.

The strange sense of peace that didn’t belong in my world.

“Is she my fated mate?” I asked.

The words felt unfamiliar.

Heavy.

“But I hate her,” I added immediately.

Dylan didn’t answer right away.

Then—

“When you become Alpha,” he said, “and my power fully awakens in three months, we’ll know for sure.”

Three months.

The same time our engagement would last.

The connection wasn’t lost on me.

But instead of giving me answers—

It made everything worse.

More confusing.

More irritating.

“How could she…” I muttered.

“How could she have feelings for that kid?”

It didn’t make sense.

It didn’t sit right.

Something about it felt wrong.

Was she blind?

Or was there something I didn’t see?

I pushed the thoughts away and got out of bed.

Sleep wasn’t coming anyway.

I lit a cigarette and walked toward the window.

The night stretched out before me.

Quiet.

Endless.

The moon hung high above.

Cold.

Distant.

Untouchable.

I stared at it for a long time.

Long enough for the silence to settle deep inside me.

And when morning finally came—

I was still standing there.

Still awake.

Still thinking.

Still… unsettled.

—

Selene’s POV

The next few days passed without anything worth remembering.

Work.

Sleep.

Eat.

Repeat.

Everything felt the same.

Predictable.

Routine.

And painfully dull.

I found myself missing the past.

The freedom I used to have.

The unpredictability of my days.

Whether it was traveling across different territories or staying within Bloodfang Pack, surrounded by strength and familiarity—

It was better than this.

Better than being here.

Watched.

Measured.

Restricted.

Time moved quickly.

And before I knew it—

It was the anniversary of Moonveil Group.

The event was grand.

Of course it was.

Everything about this place was built on appearances.

In the evening, the Frostbane family dragged me into preparation.

Hair.

Makeup.

A gown.

Everything done perfectly.

Not for me.

But for the image.

For the role I was expected to play.

Lucian’s fiancée.

When we arrived, the atmosphere made it clear—

This wasn’t just a celebration.

It was power on display.

Important figures filled the hall.

Leaders.

Business elites.

Influential names from all over Epicmon.

Lucian was busy the moment we stepped in.

Greeting guests.

Holding conversations.

Maintaining his perfect image.

And I stood beside him.

Silent.

Composed.

Irrelevant.

The boredom came quickly.

I didn’t belong here.

Not like this.

After a while, I stepped away.

“I’ll be back,” I said quietly.

No one stopped me.

No one questioned it.

The bathroom was quiet.

Still.

I adjusted my makeup slowly, taking my time, enjoying the brief moment of peace.

And just as I was about to leave—

A voice called out.

“Are you Selene Nightshade?”

I turned.

The woman standing there looked around my age.

Elegant.

Confident.

Her Dior gown fit perfectly, every detail precise.

She carried herself like someone who had never been challenged.

“Can I help you?” I asked.

She stepped forward.

“I’m Winnie Ashford.”

The name was familiar.

Very familiar.

I had heard it in whispers since I arrived.

Winnie Ashford.

Lucian’s childhood friend.

The woman everyone believed would become his Luna.

The perfect match.

The expected future.

And then—

I appeared.

Disrupting everything.

“What do you want?” I asked calmly.

She didn’t hesitate.

She reached into her bag and pulled out a card.

Then held it out to me.

“Ten million.”

Her voice was steady.

Confident.

“I want you to announce tonight that you’re breaking off your engagement with Lucian.”

For a moment—

I just looked at her.

Then I laughed.

Soft.

Amused.

It seemed like everyone in Epicmon believed the same thing.

That money could solve everything.

Buy anything.

Control anyone.

Still—

Compared to Elena’s five thousand…

Ten million was definitely more generous.

Winnie frowned at my reaction.

“This is enough for you to live comfortably for the rest of your life,” she said. “You should understand your position.”

Her gaze sharpened.

“Lucian will never choose you.”

Her voice didn’t waver.

“He’s only with you because of Richmond’s condition. Once he recovers, you’ll be discarded.”

A pause.

“You won’t gain anything from this.”

I tilted my head slightly.

Then let out a quiet scoff.

“Ten million?”

A faint smile formed on my lips.

“Ms. Ashford…”

I stepped closer.

“That’s not even enough for my monthly allowance.”

Her expression froze.

Shock filled her eyes.

And without waiting—

I turned.

My heels echoed softly as I walked away.

Calm.

Unbothered.

Behind me, her voice rose sharply.

“You’re insane, Selene!”

I didn’t stop.

“How could you, a countryside Omega, have a monthly allowance of ten million?!”
