Twenty One
Daniel’s POV
I shuffled through my plans and was stumped in deciding which plan I should go for when addressing the matter of the school building. I looked at the picture I drew and muttered to myself. “You know, I am something of an architect myself,” I smiled in satisfaction at some of the plans but I knew one or two things were off about it.
I needed to push the plan for the building forward as fast as possible because I don't really like letting things drag. As it would seem the other Alphas all seemed to be delaying their contributions and usual fees.
One of the few reasons I ruled with a strict face. I hate when I am being taken for granted. It is why I always put everything in line even before I start a project, I make sure I have all I need before embarking on any project. If I had decided to rely on any of them, this might have been a different story.
I love when things are in order and everything is regimented and inline. Everyone is doing what they should do for the betterment of the system. To me that was the only way a system could run when every single arm is functioning quite well.
I sighed and decided to redraw the entire plan again just to make sure it was perfect enough. These plans were one of the reasons I changed my plan from collecting the Alpha's contributions for the school. I didn't want any of them having a say in the machinations of its gears. I wanted to direct it as I wished.
It was hard enough to get them to decide on political matters, having them putting their noses into a business I expended time and energy in didn't seem like the best. I painstakingly drew every line and dots across the pages of the sheets in my hand and by the time I was done, I felt it had been perfected at least to some extent.
I exhaled and decided to show my architects. I called them over to look at it and they arrived quite swiftly. Two of them in actuality, they were the one that would oversee the plans and all. They had to make sure all I am doing is safe and the cost projected will accommodate it and also I wanted it to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
“Waoh,” one of them exclaimed, this is really good,” he said. “To draw this from just your imagination, it is genius.”
I smiled and remembered the words I spoke to myself earlier. “You know I am something of an architect myself,” I smiled.
He glanced at me with a chuckle. They made a few corrections on the board and I saw the light when they showed it to me. Processionals will always be better at their job. I made a self deprecating chuckle and found myself pleased with the editing.
While I was having fun with the plans, Jake, my beta, walked in and I sighed. His arrival usually meant there was something for him to fix or a disturbing news somewhere. He was like a harbinger of bad news. It wasn't his fault though, he is really competent and that is why he remains my beta till date.
“Just came to tell you some of the Alpha's have agreed to contribute to the development of the school. It met quite a positive reform with most of them,” he said with a nod.
I exhaled, maybe I was too quick to call him a harbinger of bad news. “Okay, but tell them not to worry. I have decided to take on the expenses of the undertaking myself. It is easier for me to direct the flow without their brooding gazes,” I explained.
“Alright,” he began to turn around when he stopped, his eyebrows raised as he remembered something. “Yeah, some of the packs haven't paid for them yet,” he declared.
“What do you mean, what packs?” I asked in annoyance.
“About five of them. Harken Pack, the Ember pack, (Jedidiah’s pack), Moongaze pack and HollowHaze pack,” he recounted.
I flared immediately and I could feel rage burning through me. Why would so many of them still have the effrontery to disobey me? I glanced at Jake. “Tell them I give them three hours to get the Levy to me. I don't know how they want to scoop that up but they should,” I ordered and he nodded and left.
Just as he left I glanced up to see Laurie walk in. I made no emotional changes to my face when I saw her. I turned to my architects and finished up my work with them and then I dismissed them. Just as they left, Laurie began to talk.
“I have missed you,” she quipped. “Really. Since you have arrived you haven't even stopped by to say hello,” she complained.
I glanced at her and smiled. For some reason she seemed to be putting herself in some sort of hierarchy of importance on which zhe doesn't exist? I don't really care about her, although I did respect her. The reason she was placed in such high regard was to honor our friendship, she was indeed a big part of my life while we grew up.
I glanced at her. “Not to hurt your feelings but I don't think I have the time to sit around and talk or see anyone. I have a lot on my shoulders,” I said in the softest way possible.
She gets annoyed almost immediately and I could see it in her face. “You have changed. And it all started ever since that girl came to this pack. Abigail. Why are you doing this… what's…?” she began to rant but I wasn't in the mood to listen to any of this nonsense.
“Look, I will get to you later. I have a lot I need to do, so please just leave me alone, we will talk later I promise,” I said, sighing.
“Just answer me this one question,” she asked as she got up to leave and I readied myself for the question. “Are you tired of me?” She asked.
“Yes,” I replied.
