Chapter 191: The Luna’s Legacy
Chapter 191: The Luna’s Legacy
Sierra's POV
Three months passed. The threat we feared never came. The hospital call was traced to a wrong number. The security stayed for two weeks then left. Life returned to normal but normal felt different now.
I stood in the pack meeting hall. Women filled the front rows. They used to sit in the back behind their mates. Behind the men, not anymore. Now they sat tall. Their voices are loud and clear. This was my doing. My reform, my fight and it worked.
Elder Maya spoke at the podium. Her voice was steady and strong. "The new protection law passed unanimously. Any mate who feels unsafe can report to the Luna directly. No questions asked."
The room erupted in applause. Women stood. Some were crying. I saw their relief, their hope. This was what I'd fought for.
After the meeting, three women approached me. Young mothers with babies on their hips. "Luna Sierra." The first one said, Her voice shook but her eyes were bright. "I want to thank you. My mate used to... he used to hurt me but now with the new laws he stopped. He got help. Our family is healing."
Tears filled my eyes. I took her hand. "You're brave. So brave for speaking up." She held my hands. "You made it safe to speak."
The second woman stepped forward. "I'm starting school. The education fund you created... It's paying for everything. I'm going to be a nurse."
Pride swelled in my chest. "That's amazing. The pack needs more healers." She smiled. "I want my daughter to see that women can be anything just like you showed us."
The third woman didn't speak. She just hugged me. When she pulled back her face was wet. "Thank you." She whispered. "Just thank you." I nodded.
This was why I fought. For them. For every woman who needed someone to stand up first.
That evening Adrian found me in the nursery. I was rocking Esme to sleep. Ethan was already down. Alexander played quietly with his trucks on the floor.
Adrian sat on the ottoman beside me. "You changed everything today. You know that right?" I looked at him. "I just did what was right." He shook his head. "No. You did what was brave. There's a difference."
Maria knocked softly on the doorframe. "Luna. There's someone here to see you. She says it's important." I handed Esme to Adrian. Her little body was warm and sleepy.
"Who is it?" Maria's face was uncertain. "She wouldn't give her name but she's been crying."
I went downstairs. A young woman stood in the foyer. Her hands twisted together. Her eyes were red and swollen. She couldn't have been more than twenty.
"Luna Sierra." She said, her voice breaking. "I need help. My sister... her mate won't let her leave the house. He watches her all the time. She's scared but she won't report him. She thinks no one will believe her."
My hands balled into fists. "Where is she?"
The woman gave me an address. "Can you... can you just check on her? Please?" I nodded. "I'll go right now."
Adrian appeared at the top of the stairs. He must have heard. "I'm coming with you." I looked back at Maria. "Can you watch the children?" She nodded. "Of course Luna. Take all the time you need."
We drove to the house. It was small. Adrian parked across the street. "Let me go first."
I grabbed his arm. "No. She needs to see me. Woman to woman." He didn't like it. I could see it in his face but he stayed in the car.
I knocked on the door. Footsteps inside. Then silence. I knocked again. "I'm Luna Sierra. I just want to talk."
The door cracked open. A woman peered out. Her eye was bruised. Purple and swollen. My stomach twisted. "Can I come in?" She hesitated and looked behind her. Then opened the door wider.
The house was dark. She led me to the kitchen. We sat at a small table.
"Your sister sent me." I said softly. Her face went pale. "She shouldn't have done that." I leaned forward. "She loves you. She's worried." The woman's lip trembled.
"He'll be angry if he finds out you're here." I took her hand. "Then let me help you before he comes back. There's a safe house. You can stay there. You and your children if you have any."
She pulled her hand away. "I can't just leave. He's my mate. The bond..." I cut her off.
"The bond doesn't give him the right to hurt you ever." She started crying.
"I'm so tired. I'm so tired of being scared." I moved my chair closer and put my arm around her. "Then stop being scared. Come with me right now."
She looked up. "What if he finds me?" I met her eyes. "He won't. I promise you. The pack will protect you. I will protect you." She stared at me for a long moment. Then she nodded. "Okay. Okay I'll go."
She packed a bag. Just the essentials.
We walked to the car. Adrian saw her face and his jaw clenched but he said nothing. Just opened the back door. We drove to the safe house. A small cottage on the edge of pack territory. Guarded, secret and safe.
Elder Maya met us there. She took the woman inside. Showed her the room, kitchen, garden out back.
"You can stay as long as you need." Maya said. "No one will hurt you here." The woman turned to me. "Why are you doing this? You don't even know me."
I thought of Esme. Of the world I wanted her to grow up in. "Because every woman deserves to feel safe. In her home. In her pack. In her life."
That night I checked on the twins. They slept peacefully.
This was what mattered. Not power or status but this. Making sure every woman had a voice. Every child grew up safe and every mate was protected. I'd fought for this. Bled for this and I'd keep fighting for as long as it took.
My phone buzzed. A text from the woman's sister. "She's safe. Thank you. You saved her life." I showed Adrian. He read it and pulled me closer. "See? You're changing the world one person at a time." I smiled. "That's all any of us can do."
This was my legacy. Not just as Luna but as a woman, a mother. As someone who refused to accept things as they were. I'd fought, pushed and changed the rules. And now women had voices. Mates had protection. The pack was better. Stronger. More whole.
I heard Esme start to fuss. Her little cries soft at first then louder. I picked her up. Her dark eyes looked into mine.
"You're going to grow up in a different world." I whispered. "A better one. I promise." She grabbed my finger and held on tight just like I was holding on to this moment. This feeling, knowledge that I'd made a difference.
And I wasn't done yet.
