Chapter 187: Two Pink Lines
Chapter 187: Two Pink Lines
Sierra's POV
I woke up feeling sick. My stomach turned over like a wave. I pushed the blanket off and ran to the bathroom. My knees hit the cold tile as I threw up everything from last night.
Adrian appeared in the doorway. His face showed worry. "Sierra? Are you okay?" I wiped my mouth with shaking hands.
"I don't know. Maybe I ate something bad." But deep down I knew. My body knew before my brain caught up.
This happened three days in a row. Morning sickness. The same kind I had with Alexander but it couldn't be. We just got married three weeks ago and we were careful.
Adrian watched me from across the breakfast table. "You need to see a doctor." I nodded.
My coffee smelled terrible. I pushed it away. "I will. Today." He came around and kissed my forehead. "Whatever it is, we'll handle it together."
Those words made my chest tight. Because I already knew what it was and I wasn't ready.
The clinic was quiet. Dr. Hayes smiled when she saw me.
"Luna Sierra. What brings you in?" I sat on the exam table. The paper crinkled under me. "I think I might be pregnant."
She didn't look surprised. "Let's find out."
The test took five minutes, which felt like five hours. When she came back her smile was bigger.
"Congratulations. You're about six weeks along." My ears started ringing. Six weeks. Alexander was only fourteen months old. I wasn't ready for another baby. Not this soon.
I drove home in a daze. My hands gripped the steering wheel too tight. The test results sat in my purse like a bomb. How would I tell Adrian? Would he be happy? Scared? We just started our forever and now everything is changing again.
Adrian came home early. He found me sitting on our bed staring at nothing.
"Sierra? What did the doctor say?" I looked up at him. My eyes were already wet. "I'm pregnant."
The words hung in the air between us. For three seconds he just stared. Then his face broke into the biggest smile I'd ever seen. He dropped to his knees in front of me. His hands held my face.
"You're pregnant? We're having another baby?" I nodded. Tears ran down my cheeks. "I know it's too soon. Alexander is still so young. I wasn't planning this. I'm scared, Adrian."
He pulled me close. His arms wrapped around me like a shield. "Hey. Look at me." I met his eyes. They were shining.
"This is the best news. Yes it's sooner than we planned. Yes it will be hard but we're going to do this together. Just like everything else." His hands moved to my stomach. Still flat. Still the same but growing a life inside.
"Our second child. Another piece of us." The way he said it made something shift in my chest. Maybe this wasn't a disaster. Maybe this was a gift.
That night we told Maria. She cried happy tears and hugged us both. "Two babies. This house will be full of love and chaos." Alexander babbled from his high chair. He didn't understand but he smiled anyway.
Adrian couldn't stop touching my stomach. Like he could feel the baby already. "What if it's a girl?" he said. His voice was soft. "What if she looks just like you?"
I laughed through my tears. "What if it's another boy who looks just like you?" He kissed my cheeks. "Either way. I'm the luckiest man alive."
The next morning I woke up to Adrian making breakfast again. Eggs and toast.
He put ginger tea in front of me. "For the nausea." I took a sip. It helped. "You read about morning sickness?" He grinned.
"I read about everything last night. Pregnancy books. Baby websites. I'm prepared this time." I reached across the table for his hand. "Thank you for being happy about this, for not freaking out." He squeezed my fingers. "I could never freak out about making a family with you."
Two weeks later we had our first ultrasound. The room was cold. The gel on my stomach made me jump.
Adrian held my hand so tight it almost hurt. The technician moved the wand around. Then she stopped. Her face changed. "Is everything okay?" I asked. My heart pounded. She smiled but it looked strange.
"Everything is fine. More than fine actually." She turned the screen toward us. "You're having twins."
The world stopped spinning.
Twins. Two babies. Not one. Two.
Adrian made a sound like all the air left his body. "Twins?" The technician nodded. "Fraternal twins. Both healthy and growing perfectly."
I couldn't breathe or think. Twins meant two of everything. Two cribs, car seats, two babies crying at night. Alexander was barely walking and now we were having two more.
"Sierra?" Adrian's voice sounded far away. "Sierra, look at me."
I turned my head. His face was pale but his eyes were bright. "Twins. We're having twins." He started laughing.
"This is insane. This is absolutely insane." Then he kissed me. "We're going to need a bigger house."
The pack found out the next day. Lena screamed so loud I thought she'd break glass. "Twins? Sierra, you're having twins?" She hugged me tight. Patricia cried. Sarah brought baby clothes. The whole pack celebrated like it was a holiday.
Adrian stood in the middle of it all looking proud and terrified at the same time. His hand stayed on my back. Anchoring me and reminding me we were in this together.
That night after everyone left Adrian pulled out his phone. "I've been looking at houses. Bigger ones. With nurseries and playrooms." I stared at him.
"You want to move?" He nodded. "This place is perfect for three people. But five? We need space Sierra. We need room for our family to grow."
The way he said family made my heart hurt in a good way. "Okay. Let's look at houses."
Two days later I found him in Alexander's room. Just standing there watching our son sleep. "Adrian?"
He didn't turn around. "I keep thinking about my father. How he was never there. How he made me feel like I wasn't enough."
His voice cracked.
"I don't want to be like him. I want to be present for every moment. Every scraped knee and bad dream and first word. I want to be the father I never had."
I wrapped my arms around him from behind. "You already are. You're nothing like him. These babies are so lucky to have you."
We fell asleep that night tangled together. His hand on my stomach. My head on his chest and for the first time since hearing I was pregnant , I felt ready.
Not completely ready. But ready enough. Because we had each other. We had love. We had a pack that would help us and we had three babies coming into a world that was finally safe, stable and full of hope.
