Chapter Twenty-One
My hand gripped the empty shot glass tightly as I swallowed hard, this was my third in row. Instead of facing my problems straight on, alcohol was the best route to take. Luke had sauntered around me a few times in the past hour since we had fought, it looked like he was mingling and making new friends.
I wanted to do the same thing, so I dragged my feet and pulled myself to the bathroom to sober up slightly before I spoke to anyone of importance. I was quite drunk. I had never really drunk anything this strong before. It was only used for special events and special people. I looked a state. My hair was all pushed in front of my face, so I quickly ran my hands through it in an attempt to fix it. My face was slightly better, but my lipstick definitely needed to be fixed.
I reached into my bag and searched around trying to find what I was looking for, but accidentally tipped it over and all the contents spilled over the tiled bathroom floor.
"Oh shit," I muttered to myself, and I dropped to my knees, attempting to grab everything before anyone could see.
My hands patted about the floor picking everything back up and putting it in my bag as the door slowly creaked open.
"What on earth are you doing?" I swivelled around, still on my knees to face a very confused Hades.
"My bag fell. Humiliating, I know." I grabbed the lipstick which had managed to roll itself under the sink and turned back to him. "I should actually be asking you the same thing. This is the girl’s bathroom and last time I looked you're not a girl."
"Yeah, that's true I guess." He stepped further into the room and closed the door behind him gently. "I'm hiding from someone."
I put my bag down next to me and sat back on my thighs, shaking my head. "No, I will not help you hide from whoever you've pissed off." My words slurred slightly at the end.
He threw his head back laughing. "Are you drunk?"
"No. Well, I'm trying to sober up. But you need to leave."
"Please. It's just until she stops looking for me. She thinks we're mates." He shuddered. "And that can't happen."
I threw a disgusted look at him. I guess he truly was an asshole. "No. Leave. You have to face whatever evil thing you've done, okay? Leave."
He took a step towards me, and I flinched. "I need to stay here, at least till the Mates Dance is over. I fear she'll tackle me to the ground to try and dance with me."
"And what's wrong with that? She's probably not your mate. I mean who meets their mate at the mate dance? Everyone dreams of it, but it won't happen. So just dance with her."
He drew out a long breath. "You're right. What's the worst that can happen? Thanks." He turned to leave before whipping back round to me. "And sorry for being too forward earlier. Oh, and sorry for calling you a slut. That was way out of line."
I nodded in agreement with him but stopped as the door flew open by an almighty force. Alpha Luke's eyes flickered between me on my knees and Hades standing above me.
I could only imagine how bad this looked.
