Chapter Five
After another guard came and removed me from the doctor's office, I was told to get cleaned up in the washroom. It was a lot cleaner and brighter than the room that I had first woken up in and I was happy to finally get some space to myself. I turned on the hot shower and let it run for a moment, steam bellowed into the room and I hopped in, letting out a sigh at the pleasurable feeling of warm water running over a dirty body.
I had done everything I went in for but decided to stay in the shower for a short while longer to enjoy it, my mind casting back to meeting that guard that set me the riddle.
‘What belongs to you, but other people use it more than you?’
I couldn’t even think, almost wondering why I had agreed for it to be riddles, I was rubbish at them.
The door creaked open and I hid myself behind the shower curtain, seeing who was coming in to interrupt me. To my surprise, it was another female, around my age. She had long blonde hair and was truly beautiful in every way. She had plump lips, a small nose and gorgeous almond eyes, she would be the perfect Luna.
I smiled at her, still hidden behind the shower curtain. “Hello.”
“Oh!” She seemed startled to see me. “Hi, sorry, I didn’t think there was anyone else in here. I can leave if you want” She was dressed in a pristine white robe, slippers and had a towel in her hand.
“No! It’s alright. I’m almost done anyway I’ll just hop out” I turned off the shower and grabbed my towel from beside me, wrapping it around myself and stepping out. “I didn’t think I’d see another girl here” I chuckled to myself and she shot me a confused look.
“Are you new here?”
I nodded at her. “I just came today, so I’m not sure what’s happening really. Any clues?”
“They never officially announce it, but me and a few of the other girls are sure that the Alpha is looking for his Luna. Which pack are you from?”
I was taken aback by her question, not realizing that there were other members from different packs here. “I’m from Alpha Theo’s pack, and you?”
She scoffed at me, pushing my shoulder back. “No fair. You’ll get priority surely because you’re from his pack, great” Her eyes rolled and she continued. “I’m from Alpha Jaxon's pack.”
I remembered learning about all the different Alpha’s in History, I think Alpha Jaxon found his mate when he was very small, so there was no need to search for his Luna. So I suppose that’s why members from his pack can be included in the search, I suppose a mate can be anyone.
“How long have you been here?” I didn’t want to ask that many questions and keep her from her shower but I wanted to know how long I would be stuck here for.
“Only a few days. Three, I think. I think I’m doing well though, because I’ve stayed in for long. A lot of the girls get kicked out back home on day once, so you must be doing something right” Her hand patted my shoulder and I thanked her for the back handed compliment.
“How do you get sent home exactly?”
“I’m not sure, I guess you just do something that Alpha Theo wouldn’t like? I mean, nobody’s ever laid eyes on him, so I’m not sure what that would be” I nodded along with her. “Why?”
“I’m just not that big a fan of this whole thing, I think it’s really sexist and medieval”
The look she gave me could kill somebody. “I disagree, I think it would be an honour to have pups for Alpha Theo, I bet he’s amazing in bed. God, I hope I win!” She spoke of the Alpha Trials like it was some kind of game show, and I suppose in a way, it is.
“I hope you do too” I tried not to sound sarcastic. “What do you even do here anyway? Like, how do they decide?”
“Games, quizzes, tests, exams...you just have to show that you’ll be a good Luna. But I think you’ll find that difficult, so maybe you should just give up? Then the rest of us will get a fairer chance and more time with the guards to show them?”
I shook my head and pulled my lips into a line. “Already tried that, sorry.” I started to walk out. “I’ll let you get back to your shower.”
“Thanks” She spat at me and took off her robe, getting naked right in front of me, I quickly covered my eyes and she chuckled at me. “It’s nice, right?” I wasn’t quite sure what she was referring to, but from what I was I could see why she was so confident.
“Very nice.” I threw her a thumbs up before attempting to walk out with my eyes covered, failing and walking into the doorframe with a thud. “Oops” I found the exit and was about to leave before I swung back around the door. “Do you like riddles?”
She was wet and the sound of the shower almost drowned her out as she spoke. “Sort of, why?”
Without giving her an explanation I just threw the riddle at her, hoping and praying that she’d know. “What belongs to you, but other people use it more than you?”
“Um” She thought for a moment before answering me. “A name, I think?”
Genius! “Thank you!” I made my way out, excited to find the nameless guard and tell him that I had managed to crack his riddle, so he could finally tell me his name and I’d know who I was dealing with.
