Chapter 189

Chapter 189
Alex’s POV

All I could think about was her.
A week?!
Come on, that's torture.

“Come on man, focus! My money's on the line here!” Dylan's voice reeled me back to reality.
We were playing video games with some of our friends.
Most of them were royals that had come for the wedding. Since I didn't really have any other friends apart from Dylan, we had to make the most of their presence.
More precisely, Dylan made it a big deal and said I had to have a fun night before the wedding. So, he took it upon himself to invite them all to his house.
I was staying there to stay away from Renée because of the stupid traditions.

Anyway, they all placed bets and because they had never seen me play before, most of them bet on the other guy, Jason, the Prince of a neighboring city.

The only person who bet on me was Dylan, because he knew how stupidly good I was.
But I couldn't focus, all I could think about was Renée, so naturally, I was getting my ass handed to me.

Dylan was beyond frustrated as he watched Jason's car speed past mine again.

The boys erupted in roars and laughter as I made another mistake, creating a much larger gap than before.

“That's it!” Dylan suddenly yelled, catching me slightly off guard but I didn't take my eyes off the screen.

“If you lose this game, I'm so telling Renée” he said and it was like a trigger in my head switched.

No.
Fucking.
Way.

In a matter of seconds, I was in the lead.

“That's my boy! Smoke him!” he yelled excitedly.

The finish line appeared in the distance and I could see Jason desperately trying to catch up to no avail.
To further add salt to his wound, within the last three seconds, I did a stunt, turning the car around, before skidding to a stop past the finish line.

The boys roared in amusement.
They were beyond wowed.

I looked at Jason and he just rolled his eyes, a small smirk on his face.

“Oh shut your dramatic asses up” he said and everyone laughed.

“I'm gonna be rich!” Dylan laughed and everyone booed him.

“Like you weren't already rich before” one of them said and he scoffed.

“That's different! This is a different type of rich” he argued and we all laughed.

“Good game” Jason said to me and I raised a brow.

“Wanna go again?” I asked and he raised his two hands up.

“No way I'm risking you smoking my ass twice” he said and we laughed.

“This is all your fault, you know?” Another guy, Felix, I think, said, referring to Dylan.

“What did I even do?!” he asked.

“As soon as you mentioned the Luna, it was like a cheat code or something” he said and I laughed.

“The only reason Jason even had a chance was because I wasn't focused” I said and ‘ooohs’ filled the air.

Jason rolled his eyes again “Wait till we play archery”

I raised a brow “Is that a challenge?”

He smirked.
“It would be if you could match up to my skills” he said and another round of ooohs filled the air.

I laughed.
“Challenge accepted!”

“Okay boys. We'll see who loses later but for now, I need to rake more cash in. Who else dares to defeat the current reigning champion?! And please, don't bet on him!” Dylan pleaded.

“Let me at this guy!” Felix yelled, playfully lunging towards Dylan as the other guys held him back.

“Oh come on! Don't be cowards” Dylan said and I laughed.

“I have a better idea” I said, a mischievous grin making its way to my face, and everyone looked at me.

“What?” Felix asked.

“Dylan?” I called.

“Hm?” He hummed in response.

I smiled at him and his eyes slowly widened in realization.

“Oh, hell no! Don't fucking say it Alex” he said but my smile only widened.

“Ooh, now I'm curious. Tell us” Felix said.

“Dylan, I challenge you to a round” I said and excitement bubbled through the group and laughter too, from the terror on Dylan's face.

“Oh come on! Don't be a coward” I said, quoting him from earlier.

He smacked his lips, before nodding his head.
“Nice, nice. Well played” he said and I chuckled.

“Well, fuck it. Let's do it” he suddenly said and everyone was super pumped as he made his way to sit where Jason did before.

What made this entire thing so wicked was the fact that Dylan was so bad at video games. And every time he decided to play with me, I always played the game of ‘the tortoise and the hare’ with him.
I'd move as slow as possible, sometimes, just stop the car and ‘rest the engine’ and then, wait at the edge of the finish line for him and when he was close enough, I’d just push the car out, ultimately winning him.

And that was exactly what I planned to do.

“Evil. I love it” Grail said and I snickered.
Of course you do.

“Alright then,” Dylan said, sighing like a man about to face execution. “Let’s get this over with.”

The boys immediately started cheering, half of them already pulling out their phones to record.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Jason announced dramatically, “We are gathered here today to witness the absolute annihilation of Dylan by none other than Alex, the reigning champion of broken egos.”

Laughter erupted around the room, and Dylan groaned. “You all suck. Every single one of you.”

“Come on, man,” Felix said between laughs. “You agreed to this.”

“Yeah, but I didn’t agree to being bullied before I even lost!” Dylan shot back.

I grinned. “You mean before I win.”

He pointed a finger at me. “See that confidence? That’s exactly why I’m going to take you down.”

“Don’t lie to yourself!” Felix yelled.

“Let the poor man dream,” Jason added.

“Try not to embarrass yourself too much,” I teased, leaning back in my chair and stretching my fingers like a professional athlete warming up.

“Oh please,” Dylan shot back.
“For your information, I’ve been practicing. A lot”

The laughter that followed was loud enough to probably reach the next estate.

I'd still school his ass.
