Evie pov
As we walk into the dining room I see my family tucked in the corner of the room and I instantly want to go tell the girls about the ball. The ball that's right I stop Damon away from anyone and whisper to him. "Does the staff in the castle get invited to the ball?" Damon looks confused "Well typically they would be working, but they do get dress up and are rotated so they can all enjoy themselves. why?" He asked. I nod "Well I met a maid today in our room she seemed very nice and I asked her if we could hang out and tour the city and castle together she's about our age. I was going to ask if she wanted to come dress hopping with the girls but I wasn't sure if she would be invited to the ball. Her name is Alice." I look into his eyes and see him stewing over my question. "I can't see why she wouldn't have full access to the ball, if she is a maid I don't know what tasks she would need to be doing. With that being said she should have the whole night off and would be invited to the ball. That's nice of you to invite her with you all, must people aren't that kind to the staff. " I smile "She isn't the staff Damon just a girl with a job if I came here under different circumstances that could be me. People would think waitressing is beneath an Alpha's daughter too and it didn't seem to phase you." Damon looks around the room to the many servants lining the wall "I guess I never thought of it that way, now I feel like an ass." I chuckle "Glad I can be here to remind you" I say squeezing his hand "I'm going to go talk to the girls. why don't you go catch up with your brother and his friends. Be nice to Cole he had nothing but kind things to say about you and your family." Damon grunts but reluctantly nods before heading in that direction. I walk up to my family "good morning everyone" I say smiling "How are you all doing?" My parents turn to me smiling from ear to ear "We are so happy that you and your sister found your mates. This is all the happiness we have ever wished for you two." My mom says with tears in her eyes. I start to tear up too "Thank you guys" I say while hugging both my parents. I pull away and can't help but feel happy to have all of us together again even if they have to return to Bloodmoon soon. "Okay Hazel, Lizzie, mom come with me we have to talk." I nod to another corner of the room and they follow me. "Is everything okay?" Hazel asks hesitantly. I burst out laughing I guess that did sound bad "Yes! Yes! Everything is fine sorry, I just wanted to talk to you guys about the ball." Lizzie shoots me a glare "really Evie you couldn't have just said that over there?" She asks pointing to where our father and brothers stand. "Oh no I could have but I wanted to talk about the theme and dress shopping and I knew they would make fun of us." I say nodding in their direction. "You found out the theme? I am so excited you girls didn't let me go shopping with you for the dance, your inviting me this time?" My mom says her excitement radiating through the room. "Of course your invited mom! Shopping for the dance wasn't important Hazel and I just wanted to look cute. I need your advice mom now I need to look cute and like a future Queen. I couldn't go shopping without you." I say grabbing her hand. "That's so sweet and I'm so glad mom is coming but.. lets move to the more important topic whats the theme?" Lizzie asks bouncing from foot to foot. "They decided on a formal masquerade ball, so we get to pick out extravagant gowns and masks. I'm saying it now which will be no surprise but I call blue! It with either be midnight blue or navy blue but dark blue is all mine please!" Hazel laughs "like by now we don't have our signature colors picked out Evie." I chuckle then the doors to the dining hall are thrown open followed by the entrance of the King talking adamantly with a castle guard. After a brief exchange of words the guard rushes out of the room and the King turns to us appearing very irritated. "Unfortunately I have bad news." The King says looking around the room at each of us. "It would appear the rouges figured out that Evie has left Blackwood and returned to the capital with her mate. While we have had no sightings in the city the guards that I sent to Blackwood to watch the rouges who were following you reported that they we're leaving their base there. They were heading this way but the guards lost them." Cole laughs under his breath the King whips in his direction as well as the rest of us. "Is something funny boy?" Cole gulps then says "Um no Your Majesty, well I just laughed at the fact that the rouges think they would even have a chance of breaking through the the cities defenses let alone reach Evie here. It just seem's stupid to me that they would even try to follow. I didn't mean to be rude I apologize." The king nods "I do agree, so that means they must be planning something big or as Cole said stupid. But due to the potential threat to you Evie, I must demand that unless you are with Damon you will be escorted everywhere by two castle guards." I am ready to stand my ground,but hesitate when I see the concern written all over Damon's face. "Of course, Thank you for your concern and protection." I say bowing my head to the King. Damon hurries to my side "are you okay?" he whispers stroking my hand with his thumb. I nod without meaning it. I guess it just another bump in the road we will have to overcome, why couldn't things just stay good?
