Who is he?
Who is he?
Evie Pov
I feel tense as the King's gaze rests between Damon and I. Before anyone else can say or ask anything I speak up. "When I am in pain Damon feels it as if it is his own injury and the same happens to me as well." I say calmly. As my eyes dart around the room taking in everyone's shocked reaction to what I have just said. I move closer to Damon hoping his presence will calm me down. He looks at me and gives me a small smile and reassuring squeeze of the hand, I feel some of my tension melt away. The king speaks first " how long have you two know about this?" He asks pointedly. Damon takes a step forward and I pray that he doesn't bring up the betrayal pains, it is not something that I want my parents to know about right now when they already so clearly do not approve of my mate. "The first time I experienced it Carter and I were on a run in the woods and I all of the sudden had a shooting pain in my chest that soon radiated to my ribs where Evie's injuries were. We found her surrounded by rouges and fighting to escape. The pain is a beacon it makes it easier to find her than just her scent." Damon says glancing at me before standing firm in front of the King again. The King begins pacing in front of us before he says just one word "Interesting." Then he moves back to his seat at the table. "Well lets eat I am sure we are all hungry." The King says motioning for us to return back to our seats and resume dinner like he didn't just whip his son behind the chair he lounges in. I feel my blood start to boil but swallow it down, who knows what another outburst would mean for Damon. My parents take seats next to Carter's parents whose names I still need to learn. It will be good for them to meet and hopefully get along with one of their daughter's in-laws, because as much as we have disappointed my parents over the years (and it has been plenty trust me) they would never whip us. I grab for the wine in front of me a drink the whole glass in the matter of minutes and a servant against the wall quickly comes and refills it. At some point food is placed in front of me and I even eat but I couldn't tell you what it is. My focus is on watching the blood that has been pooling onto Damon's shirt all though it finally seems to be stopping. I can feel my own back making the first attempts to stitch the wound back together. After about an hour in the dining hall of meaningless conversation floating around the King finally stands and asks Damon to escort him back to his room. Damon stands planting a kiss on my forehead before following his father and fear hits me. I will know if something goes wrong and I have a feeling the King will keep his anger in check knowing that. I stand and follow my parents to their suite to help them get settled in and catch up about the pack and how everything has been going since I left. My parent's informed the pack of where they were going and that I was mated to Prince before they left, they said excitement had broken out through our people as well as pride. Apparently it shows how special the Bloodmoon wolves are, I bet when they hear about Lizzie's mate it will pump the pack up even more. Although it might give them a huge ego I know they will use that ego to help surrounding packs as well so I am happy that they are so proud of me. I hope we can return to Bloodmoon soon so I can see my people and introduce them to my mate. I want them to meet the real Damon I can't imagine that their opinions of him are much better than mine were a couple of months ago and that needs to change. After about an hour I wish my parent's a goodnight and make my way across the castle to our room but Damon is not there. I quickly decide I do not want to sit in the room and let worry overcome me so I go to wander through the gardens that I saw earlier.I take a turn and I am surrounded by beautiful rose bushes in every color you could imagine, someone must have designed these because I know they do not grow naturally. I am lost in thought in the moonlight admiring the flowers when I sense someone approaching. I stiffen as I breathe in and don't recognize the scent of this unknown male. It's feels familiar but there is something not right about it. I don't turn around when I ask "Do you make it a habit to sneak up on unknown women in the gardens?" The steps stop then the male takes a deep breath and walks out of the shadows so I turn around to size him up. "I am sorry I used to wander these gardens every night and I felt a pull to return them this evening. I didn't know someone would be here and I didn't want to be seen so I was trying to leave without alerting you." The stranger says. "Step forward into the moonlight so I can see your face please?" I ask. To my surprise he does and I am shocked if I didn't know better I would think I was looking at a younger version of Damon. Same black hair and striking blue eyes but none of the swagger that Damon effortlessly carries with him. "If you were trying to leave without alerting me why were you walking straight towards me?" I ask cautiously studying his body language waiting to see if he plans to attack. "I will admit at first I was coming to you, did you know that these rose gardens were planted by the King for the late Queen. She loved roses and would often be found out here day and night basking in the presence of their beauty. She had the same black hair as you do and at first I thought maybe her spirit came down to visit again, but then I caught your scent and realized I was wrong." The stranger says stiffly and I can tell he is uncomfortable being here, talking about the Queen. "Were you two close?" I ask my suspicions of this man growing with every second that he speaks. Who is he? Why does he know so much about the late Queen about her daily schedule? Was she murdered? Is he a spy? "We were, she was amazing and kind to everyone she met. Even the servants would consider her a friend. She had a light that made everyone feel welcome, like they were home." He says and I see a flash of pain cross his face before he schools his features again. I am about to say something else when I hear a growl behind him. Damon is storming out of the castle and rushing towards me but once he gets a few feet away from the stranger he stops. I watch him breathe in the strangers scent again as he cautiously approaches. Then he stops right in between the two of us "Daniel is that really you?" He asks relief flooding his features...Who is Daniel?
