Chapter 97 Untitled Chapter
Chapter 97 Untitled Chapter
One second her opponent was across the field, the next second she was swinging at her with her daggers, the blades dangerously close to her neck.
She dodged barely, and gasped. How the hell was she so fast?
But she barely had room to think before Frieda was already on the attack again. For the first time, the hybrid found herself on the defense.
Frieda was relentless, her dagger and legs swiping with unerring accuracy. If it had been a lesser female, they would definitely have been bleeding to death now.
Irked now, she started displaying her own skills. She ducked an oncoming blade and struck her nose with her other fist. Hard.
Frieda stumbled, clutching her nose.
Good, she had drawn first blood.
As the two continued to battle, the crowd watched with wonder at the extraordinary speed and strength of the females, they were so fast, they could barely keep up.
“Imagine!” One said. “A former kitchen slave, keeping up with a seasoned warrior!”
The listener sent him a dry look. “If you had watched other matches you wouldn’t be saying something like this. The omega is a beast.”
In the field, the fight continued.
Somehow, hybrid Rina had gotten hold of Frieda in a choke hold but with one move, she was able to twist out of it and used one of her knives to slice Rina’s skin.
Rina grunted, using her hands to stop the flow. Great. Another injury. She glanced up at the sky. Very soon the new moon would appear.
She needed to be done with this fight long before then.
Her gaze hardened and she leveled her stare on Frieda.
“Don’t think I haven’t noticed what you’re doing.”
The female cocked her head to the side, her chest rising and falling in heavy breaths.
A low rumbling laugh released from her chest. Then she snarled, “You’re holding back.”
Above them the crowd kept on yelling, but she knew there was no way they could hear this conversation.
She continued. “You’ve been pulling your punches, your hits. Did you think I wouldn’t notice?” She had had chances to give near fatal hits to Rina yet she didn’t take it. Instead she blocked and parried, nothing like the swinging warrior at the beginning of the match.
Surprise flickered through Frieda’s eyes quickly but Rina was sharp enough to notice it. She was right. She was holding back but what for?
Doubly suspicious now, her eyes quickly scanned the crowd, moving from left to right. Just what was the female planning to do?
Frieda chose that moment to strike again but Rina was ready, she ducked and used her legs to sweep her off her feet in two seconds flat.
She hit the floor with a loud thud, her breath escaping her in a rush, her hands loosening from her fearsome daggers just a little.
But Rina didn't give her any chance to breathe or recover. She kicked her daggers out of her grip and went on top of her and gave punches after punches to her face, anywhere she could reach.
Frieda pulled her hands to protect herself. When she saw that, it wasn’t doing any good, she immediately counterattacked, using her hips and incredible upper body strength to overthrow her in one single powerful move.
Rina ate dust, landing on her face but she quickly went to her feet. But when she looked at Frieda she saw the woman quietly watching her, not attacking.
“Why won’t you fight me properly?” She snarled much harsher than before, fully annoyed now. “What’s your game here? What surprises have you and the king hatched? I assure you, it won’t work.”
Silence.
“You still won’t speak?” She asked, frustrated beyond belief.
Then, and only then, did the other woman spoke up for the first time since the match started, “You don’t know anything, do you? You think you do but you don’t.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” She demanded.
Frieda shrugged, her eyes actually looked…. sad. Like she pitied the hybrid. And that mad her so mad. “Exactly what it is.” Her voice turned low. “Do you even know anything about your kind? About hybrids?”
“And you think you do?” Rina smiled, showing teeth.
Frieda shook her head. “Maybe not but deep inside we’re a lot alike, aren’t we? At the end, we are all animals, aren’t we? Subject to our baser instincts?”
“If you’re talking about the new moon, then you should know that were not all the same. Some species are simply better.”
“Maybe.” She shrugged. “Then again maybe not.”
She looked so unbearably patronizing, like she knew a secret Rina didn't, and it pissed her off. Lightning fast, she charged
at her, but at the last possible moment Frieda swerved, using her elbows to push from the back so that she stumbled.
Angry now, rage coursing through her veins, she tackled Frieda to the ground with an earth shattering roar. The two grappled at each other on the floor with Rina coming out on top in the end.
Her fangs gleamed white in the light of the moon as she sneered at Frieda below her. Her other hands was raised, claws drawn out. As if by tacit agreement, they had refused to shift into their wolf forms but now all bets were off. Rina was done playing.
"Any last words?" she said, her voice deadly and dangerous. She was going to swipe at Freida's jugular anytime now.
Just as she was going for the kill, the other woman's eyes snapped to somewhere beyond her shoulder.
Rina frowned, following her gaze and gasped.
The new moon, that only appeared after every hundred years, had appeared overhead. And it was like nothing she'd ever seen. It appeared from above a cloud, glittering like a thousand shining diamonds were hung in the sky.
It was breathtaking and terrible all at once amd it appeared appeared that every werewolf in the area shared her sentiment because they all looked equally entranced.
The only person not distracted was Frieda who looked at her with something very close to pity in her gaze.
Rina’s fists tightened. “Stop fucking staring…”
But she stopped her speech, and looked down in shock to see a dagger digging into her skin in the same place of her previous injury.
“What—” she stared in confusion at Frieda’s two daggers which were several feet away from them. “How…”
“I’m sorry, Rina, I wish it hadn’t come to this,” Frieda whispered before pushing her off her body, before Rina began to shift.
