Chapter 103 Untitled Chapter

Chapter 103 Untitled Chapter
“At first I didn't understand what she meant by carrying her curse of course.” The healer, no, the sorceress now, continued to say. “To me she looked to be the most blessed person I'd ever met.” The healer said, her eyes hazy as if she was back in that moment in time. “She had it all—power beyond one’s  wildest imagination, a coven filled with people ready to die at her command. And yet… she was unhappy.”

Her eyes held Rina’s. “And do you know why? Because she’d bound herself to a god.”

The other two listened with rapt attention as Rina repeated, “a god?”

“Yes, an immortal one. She’d traded her soul in exchange for power in her youth but after many years she wished to be free. But she could only purchase her soul with another. She wanted me to plead my soul in exchange for hers to repay my debt.”

“Amd you agreed?” Rina asked incredulous.

Her wolf scoffed. “Of course she did. She’s a power hungry bitch, this one.”

The sorceress’ lips tightened ominously and stretching her hands forward she launched one of her shadows to wrap itself around the wolf’s neck.

“One more word out of you and I’ll wring your little neck, understand?”

The wolf just gave her a bloody grin.

Her brows rose but she said nothing and turned back to Rina, saying, “You're probably thinking that I was stupid for agreeing to such a transaction, aren’t you? It seemed like such an unfair transaction, selling my soul to repay a debt but…” her mind took on a faraway look. “I had my reasons.”

“And what reasons could be worth selling your soul to the devil?”

"Not the devil, foolish girl. He’s the most powerful being in all the realms. The Sun god.” Her voice was reverent.

The sun god? Rina thought to herself in surprise. So he was behind all this madness? He was the being that had given the sorceress her powers? But something still didn’t add up.

"But the sun god has been dead for centuries now. He hasn’t been seen in thousands of years. So how…?” She mused and looked up, recalling the last words that Samorah had said just before she’d been thrown out.

She’d said some about tearing the veil and awakening something but she had been unable to finish. Suddenly a cold dread came upon her. It couldn't be…

“Don’t tell me that’s what you’re planning?” She asked, her voice high with panic. “ To awaken the sun god?”

The sorceress looked at her with something akin to admiration. “You’re a lot smarter than I’d thought.”

She ignored the insulting remark and moved closer, her hands clenching tight around the bars in desperation. They’d all thought the sorceress simply wanted to take over the entire kingdoms but instead it was much, much worse. She would destroy them all.

“You know about the sun god. You’ve heard the rumors. If he awakens, he’ll destroy us all.”

“Haven’t you been listening all this while? That’s exactly what I want.”

Rina stepped back in shock.

Frieda spoke up for the first time since she’d been asked to stay. “But how will you tear the veil in the first place?” Her tone was mildly curious.

The sorceress released Rina from her cruel stare and faced Frieda now. “Good question, Frieda.” Then she made sure to stare Rina in the eye as she said, "Rina’s mate is already helping me to do that. Prince Lyon will tear the veil apart and awaken the sun god.”

“That’s a lie.” Rina said at once, shaking her head furiously. “Lyon would never help you in your schemes. Never!” She knew the man she loved, the man that was her mate and there was no way he would ever do anything to put his people in danger.

The sorceress just smirked and then using one of her shadows that suddenly formed a hollow circle in the air, began showing her a clear image.

At first she couldn't see anything but white sands and rising dunes, until the focus shifted and twenty horsemen came into view. Immediately, her starving eyes picked out the determined jawline of Lyon’s face as he rode ahead of his men to an unknown destination.

“Your darling Lyon came to me all anxious asking for help.” She informed Rina smirking. “Do you know what he thinks? He thinks he’s opening the veil to help you, meanwhile he’s actually helping me.” She laughed snidely. “Do you see that string on his neck? That’s the key to the veil! I’ve imbued it with my magic and when the time’s right, that’s the key that will change everything!”

All thoughts evaporated from Rina’s head as she snarled, “if anything happens to Lyon, I will…”

“Threatening me?” The sorceress’s lips twisted bitterly. “I would advise against that, Rina. I have the power to crush you right here and now.”

Rina bared her teeth. “I’m not afraid of you.”

“Maybe not. But you’ll be afraid for your friends, no?” She said mysteriously and Rina’s eyes narrowed.

“What does that mean?”

She shrugged. “It means exactly what you think it means Rina. Like I said before, you and I are a lot alike than you think. We were both ripped off of our true identity by the same person. If you join my cause, I’ll assure you that I’ll restore you back to your body and I’ll give you an enviable position at my side.”

Rina paused for a moment, unable to believe her ears. Had the sorceress just asked her to join her band of dark witches and murderers?

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” she muttered under her breath.

“Well, what do you say?” She demanded. “If we worked together, we would be unstoppable.”

“Go to hell.”

“Excuse me?”

“I said go to hell.” Rina made sure her voice was cold and clear, so the witch wouldn’t have any doubts about where she really stood. “If you really think that I’m going to help you, the witch that helped in locking my powers and wants to destroy half the world, then you’re even more delusional than I thought.”

The sorceress’ jaw clenched at her tone and then she snapped her fingers. Suddenly the door opened and two of her goons strolled in.

“We caught these two snooping, mistress.” They said, pushing two bound figures into the middle of the room.

It wasn’t hard for Rina to spot the familiar faces when they raised their heads up and she gasped.

“Tabitha! Omaron! Are you okay?”

They simply mumbled frantically, unable to speak because of the ropes around their mouth.

She glared at the witch. “Release them. Now.”

She smiled but it was a cold smile, completely without feeling or mercy. “You are hardly in a position to demand anything. This is your final chance, Rina. Are you with me or against me?”
