ALANA
Hand in hand, we went back to the main field where the queen luna, Sophia, Georgia, and the rest of the attendants and soldiers were waiting for us.
“Alana, are you okay now?” The queen luna walked up to me and touched my face inspecting something on it. “You are still pale, Alana.”
“I’m okay now, queen luna. Thank you so much for asking. I really appreciate it.”
She stared at me again before sighing and walking back into her position to address all of us.
“What happened to Alana is unfortunate but now that she’s back, we will announce the winner of the test.”
She took a bouquet of flowers and handed it down to Sophia. “Sophia won the test successfully shifting into her wolf in a matter of seconds and coming in first place during the challenge.”
Sophia excitedly received the flowers and smiled so happily. “Thank you, queen luna. That only means that I am more than capable of giving offspring to the alpha prince. Thank you for appreciating that, queen luna.”
Even though I know I am going to lose this part of the test, still, it hurts to see the flowers in her hands. In fact, this whole competition feels like a stab to my heart because why do I need to defend being the mate of the alpha prince in the first place?
Georgia steps in and bows her head before the queen luna. “Queen luna, if it is not too much to ask but for the sake of transparency, can we ask the chief doctor to tell us fully about the reproductive problem of Alana that he is talking about?”
I tightened my grip around William’s hand as we waited for the queen luna’s answer.
“No, we can’t. We can personally talk about it with Alana and the head doctor. Analyzing and gossiping about that personal aspect of a woman is not a good trait especially if you are aiming to be the bride of my son.”
Georgia’s face reddened as she cleared her mouth. “My apologies, queen luna.”
“I don’t think you have to apologize to me, Georgia. Go and say your apologies to Alana.”
She gritted her teeth before looking at me forcefully. “I… I’m sorry, Alana,” she said out of her nose, not really meaning to say it.
“We are not going to accept your apologies,” William interrupted and stared at her face. “Actually, it’s pointless to even try to remain here in the hopes of being my wife. I will not marry any of the two of you because I already found my mate. You two are nothing compared to Alana. You boast of your education, of the places you’ve been and the people you’ve met but those cannot be accounted for proper breeding and respect. You all are nothing compared to my mate.”
William squeezed my hand before putting an arm around me. “I’m sorry everyone but I have to bring my mate back to the palace.”
I let him guide me back to the car that would take us back to the palace. I know he’s been meaning to transform into his wolf and let me ride on his back or we could transform into each other’s wolves and race back to the palace, but William is just keeping himself from doing that because he’s scared about the repercussions.
I grabbed his hand and leaned on to his shoulder when the car started moving.
“We will do all the things together that we wanted to do, William.” I raised my face at him and smiled. “I promise you that, my mate.”
But even though I am adamant to stand by my promise, the turn of events prove to be even more of a challenge to us.
“What do you mean that Alana would no longer be allowed in my room?!” William asked in gritted teeth when we arrived at the palace and saw that Francine had put all of my things and clothes in the luggage. “She is my mate, Francine! There is nothing wrong for her to stay in my quarters.”
Francine sighed and patted his arm to calm him down. “I cannot do anything, William. Yes, I argued with him but in the end, who am I to disobey your father? It is the order of the alpha king to take Alana away from your room because the alphas requested it so they would not doubt the results of the test. The alpha king told me that no one in the pack liked what you are doing, William. You are basically helping Alana to win the tests.”
“Of course, I will help Alana because she is my mate! This whole series of tests is even pointless! I already found my mate so she would technically be my wife and luna!”
“William,” I called his name while smiling at him. “It’s okay. It’s really okay. Please do not take out your anger on Francine. She is not at fault here. No one is at fault here.”
He leaned in to kiss my head before inhaling sharply, rage still in his eyes.
“Where would she be staying then?” he asked in a more relaxed tone.
“To the same dormitory that Georgia and Sophia are staying in. Don’t worry. They cannot bully Alana. I will make sure of that, William.”
“And I won’t let them,” I said confidently.
They both looked at us in unison so I lifted my head higher. “I swear I would not let them. Why are you all so surprised?”
“That’s our girl!” Francine finally smiled and pinched my cheek while William pulled me into his arms to kiss my head making me feel that he is so proud of me.
“You are also banned from going with her to the series of tests,” Francine spilled another bad news.
“What?!” he exclaimed in disbelief.
But I guess that doesn’t end there from the looks of it because Francine threw us a concerning look again. “And William, there is something that you need to know too.”
“What is it?”
“The alpha king tasked Lucas to guard Alana.”
Uh-oh, I thought as my hands got cold against his. It felt like a wave of problems after a wave of problems after a wave of problems hit us.
