Chapter 370 370
Maurice POV
He looks like something pulled straight from an old thriller lurking in the shadows, waiting patiently for the perfect moment to strike.
If I didn’t know him, I’d assume he was here to kill me.
Even now… I’m not entirely sure I can trust him.
My wolf refuses to turn his back on him, instincts screaming danger.
There’s something almost unnatural about his appearance. His sharp, dark features feel timeless like he belongs to another era, another life altogether.
Even as he casually rips off another chunk of bread and dunks it into the milk, his posture radiates arrogance. Confidence far beyond what even a werewolf should possess.
And that says a lot.
“I don’t recall inviting you into my home,” I growl, my wolf pushing forward at his unauthorized presence, bitterness coating my tongue.
“Or onto my pack lands.”
He barely looks at me.
“And yet,” he replies lazily, “here I am anyway.”
As if he’s doing me a favour by intruding.
By invading our space.
Our lives.
“Did Damien send you?” I demand.
“Quite the opposite,” he says calmly. “I came for my friend.”
I pause.
If Damien hadn’t sent him… then why was he here?
“Bee is fine,” I snap, stepping deeper into the kitchen as I grab the milk carton and shove it back into the fridge.
“Really?” he muses smugly. “Because I’ve heard otherwise.”
A growl tears from my chest.
“Oh yeah?” I spin back toward him, eyes narrowing. “And what exactly have you heard?”
“I can help.”
He ignores my question completely as he stands and starts toward the stairs.
My muscles tense instantly.
How in the hell did he even get inside?
I move just as fast, sliding in front of him and blocking the staircase.
“No,” I say firmly. “She’s sleeping.”
My arm braces against the doorframe, cutting off his path.
“Perfect,” he murmurs darkly. “She’ll never know.”
A chill crawls down my spine.
“Know what?”
He simply brushes my arm aside like it weighs nothing.
Like I’m made of smoke.
“That I helped her.”
He slips past me so easily it leaves me stunned.
I’m built wide enough to fill most of the staircase.
That shouldn’t have been possible.
“Is she in your room?” he calls calmly.
“Yes, but” I snarl, already rushing after him. “Gilles!”
He doesn’t even slow.
“Shh,” he whispers. “You’ll wake her. I’ll be quick.”
I don’t understand what he’s doing or planning until he reaches the bed.
Before I can stop him, he places his fingers gently at Bee’s temples.
“What the hell are”
I surge toward him, all patience gone the moment he touches my mate.
“Just a moment,” he says quietly. “She’s a stubborn one.”
I circle to the other side of the bed.
His eyes slide shut as he leans closer to Bee, fingers still pressed against her head.
His lips move.
Whispering words I don’t recognize.
Not anything spoken in this world.
It sounds ancient.
Latin… maybe something older.
Whatever it is, it doesn’t belong in the present.
That’s it.
Seeing his mouth so close to her face sends my wolf into a frenzy.
It takes everything in me not to shift and tear him apart.
I reach out and yank his arm back hard.
His eyes snap open.
Bright crimson stares back at me.
I stumble back instinctively.
Then he blinks.
Shakes his head.
And the red fades into his usual dark gaze.
“There,” he says casually. “All done.”
Like he just fixed a loose wire.
“What the fuck did you do?” I demand, glancing between him and Bee.
“I helped her,” he replies calmly. “When she wakes, she’ll be a little more… accepting of what she is.”
“Accepting of what she is…” I echo, moving quickly to Bee’s side.
My hands brush gently over her face, searching for marks scratches anything.
There’s nothing.
“She’ll be ready to train,” he continues. “And don’t go easy on her. She’s stronger than you think… especially for a hybrid.”
He starts toward the door.
Then pauses.
Turns back with that wicked glint in his eyes.
“I should know,” he adds with a smirk.
Then he’s gone.
“Why you little bastard” I lunge after him.
But the hallway is empty.
The faint scent of burning drifts through the air.
The pack link settles as my warriors realize the intruder has left the grounds.
But how the hell did Gilles leave so fast?
Not just the house…
But my entire territory.
In seconds.
