Chapter 80 Blurry
ZORA
"So, from what I've gathered from your gibberish, we've met at least once. I may or may not recognize you. My frie- my maidservant - betrayed me to you and your family are insane enough to believe they can lord over every supernatural,"
His hand connected with my cheeks, hard.
It was a blur.
There was no way I could have dodged it.
My cheek stung from the impact, my ears rang, and the tears that gathered in my eyes earlier fell.
I scoffed, then laughed bitterly.
"Someone has anger issues."
"Don't insult my family! You don't know what we've been through, the ridicule, insults, mockery, shame, condemnation!! So you don't get to, in that sorry state of yours, insult my family!"
"Well then, you and your family are delusional."
"Yet, you're the one in chains and helpless."
I glared at him angrily, jerking at the chains.
"Oh.... your eyes are blue, and your tattoo is going." He did a fake shudder, "I'm scared."
What kind of insane person is this?
"Props to mate, though. He definitely saw through me. Maybe that's why he killed me, or maybe he was jealous."
Ryker did kill some people at the party....... but if he said killed.....
"Killed you?" I asked despite myself, "I know Ryker never makes mistakes when he kills. Did you stop to think that maybe he wanted you alive to mess with you?"
"You have a lot of things wrong. Ryker, your mate, killed me. Your maidservant or what was it you called her, I have no idea who that is. This is all me and my family. No one can take credit for our hard work."
I exhaled visibly.
Marissa didn't sell me out.
"Still doesn't explain how you're alive if Ryker killed you."
"My family." He replied, I could bear the pride on his tone, "my family."
"Or Ryker was just being merciful." I murmured.
He ripped his masks off, familiar blue eyes shooting daggers at me.
"Was your mate being merciful when he clawed my heart out without prior warnings?"
I opened my mouth, and no sound made it past.
I can't believe this.
I saw him die.
Ryker killed him.
He was dead.
How is he alive?
"L... Lucas?" I gasped out.
My eyes were a bright hue of purple.
An emotion rippled through every fiber of my body.
I was scared.
RYKER
I staggered on my feet in mass on dead bodies around me and collapsed.
Wesley was by my side in an instant.
"How long did it take this time?
"Seventeen minutes." He replied, throwing me new clothes.
"I should probably discharge everyone. Next time might be my last. I can still feel it, you know, roaring at the back of my head.
"Zora...."
"Can't find a way," I interrupted, "Did she leave yet?"
"No... she said she's not leaving."
I groaned inwardly, "Why does she have to be so stubborn? Where's she?"
"With Marissa. Maybe you can talk to her later. You need to rest, you're no good talking to her in this weak state. The bond can..."
"Yeah, I got." I replied and made my to my room to rest, knowing Wesley would take care of everything.
He was right, too. I am no good to anyone in this state.
As soon as I felt better I went in search of Zora and talk some sense into her.
The house smelt different.
Differe enough to make my teeth grind.
My bond didn’t like it one damn bit. I can't smell her anywhere.
I went to the children’s first, my children.
I should see one more time before they leave for good.
I pushed open the door to the children’s room.
Two pairs of eyes flicked up at me.
"Daddy!!" Leah screamed, coming to hug.
"Stop calling him that. Mummy hasn't confirmed if he's really our dad." Tyker mumbled, familiar green eyes piercing through mine.
"Why are you lot still awake?" I questioned.
"Waiting for Aunty Courtney, she went to bring a card game for us to play." Leah answered.
"It's early in the evening. Why should we be asleep by now?" Tyler countered.
I nodded, stroking Leah's hair.
I wonder if Zora has told them who they are yet. They already have their unique scent. It's only a matter of time before things start changing. I really hope Zora will be able to handle it.
I dropped Leah and letvher return to whatever she was doing, gave Tyler a subtle nod.
"Stay safe, pups.' I said to both of them.abd walked out of their room.
Now to the next person, Zora.
My bond was excited to see her, but the beast wasn't.
If anything, its roars in my head grew louder.
I ignored it.
As I moved closer to her room, the sense of uneasiness I felt only grew worse.
I tried again. There was no whiff of her scent even though I was close to her room.
The hallway suddenly felt long and stretching with each step I took.
I broke into a run and opened her room without knocking.
The moment I pushed the door open, my stomach dropped.
The bed was untouched, no sign that she was in. Her scent in the air was faint.
My eyes scanned everywhere, scrutinizing her room to see if anything was out of place.
Then I saw it.
A small piece of paper at the center of her bed.
I moved forward, snatched it up, and scanned the note.
It was short, and that was even more annoying.
"Come save her. – Scarlett."
The paper crumpled in my fist before I’d even realized I’d squeezed it.
Scarlett.
I was angry, furious.
What was she up to?
If anything happens to Zora, the council would be my starting point. The world would wish it never existed.
And if Scarlett lay a hand on my mate, she'd have to pray to the gods to take her fast because Goddess help me, her death will make it into the history books.
"Alpha!" Marissa entered, "Zo- Miss Zora is not here. Miss Scarlett asked her for escort to get a drug."
I narrowed my eyes at her, keeping my anger in check only because she's Wesley's sister.
I dumped the paper in her hands and walked out of the room.
I'll find them.
"A.. Alpha... Where are you going to? How are you going to find them? Wesley said."
I fixed her a glare, "What was your job, Marissa?"
"Keep her safe."
"And did you so that?"
"Allow me to follow you. You won't find rhem fast on your own."
I raised an eyebrow.
"I don't mean to write you down, Alpha, but you're sick and weak. Focus your strength on whatever we will come across there, and leave it to me to find Zora."
"If anything happens to you ...."
"It's on me. Don't worry. I'll try to stay safe," She promised.
"Fine. We are leaving now."
She nodded grimly, "Yes, Alpha."
