Chapter 24 Family house
ZORA
I was spent and tired.
I woke up the next morning to Marissa standing over me by my bed.
A frown settled quickly on my face, "Aren't you too close?"
She cleared her throat and took dew steps back, "I was just checking on you and making sure you are actually breathing."
I sat up and stretched, "have I been asleep for a long time?"
She nodded, "it's mid noon. Do you have plans, or do you want to continue sleeping?"
I climbed from the bed quickly and rushed to the bathroom. I have a lot to do today.
I need to visit the library first. Maybe it would give answers to my predicament, afterwards, I'm going to meet them.
"Please help me with clean clothes." I shouted to Marissa before closing the bathroom door.
I came out wrapped in a towel and met with Marissa's disapproving eyes.
My brows came together, "What?"
"You basically just breezed in and out of the bathroom."
I arched an eyebrow, "That's a problem?"
I was sure I spent more than fifteen minutes in that bathroom.
"You spent approximately two minutes and twenty-five seconds, that'snot befitting for a lady. "
I scoffed and wore my clothes. I have far more important things to do than worry about my bath time.
I let her style my hair and apply little makeup on my face.
"Where are we going to?" She asked as soon as we were out the door.
"I am going to the library and just need you to describe the way, while you, however, should spend a free day. Do whatever you like. I won't be back still evening."
She nodded, "Please be back in time for dinner. The Alpha has requested your presence."
I paused, not sure I wanted to be in the same room with him, and have this bond acting irrationally again.
"What time is dinner?"
"Seven."
"Okay," I bobbed my head, mentally writing it down. "I have seven hours. I should be back before then."
"Six hours and fifty minutes."
I rolled my eyes, "The way to the library."
Her expression was serious as she described the way. From her description, it was obvious the library's location changed from the last time I was there years ago.
"Be careful," she added as she saw me off, "crazy things happen in the library."
I discarded her warning just as quickly. We aren't in high school where bullies torment the weak ones in the library.
True to her description, the five storey library was sitting peaceful and looking beautiful from outside with two huge guards at the entrance.
They didn't stop me as I entered.
Taking a deep breath, I set down to business.
I grabbed a piece of paper in a basket by the door, showing a map of the library and how the books are sorted.
Skimming through it, I found what I wanted.
History of werewolves and bonds. It was on the fourth floor.
The stairs are going to be a problem.
I arrived on the fourth floor, totally out of breath and shaky legs.
No one was on this floor, and the entire building was eerily quiet. Not even the library attendant was in sight.
I collapsed on the nearest chair to catch my breath.
After about a full minute, I stood up to inspect my surroundings and was faced with a harsher reality.
They were a lot of books and the floor was very big.
The aisles here, according to the sign at the door, were thirty,
Gritting my teeth, I set to work.
There was nothing to see in the werewolf history, and there were barely any books on bonds.
I sat down on the floor, between an aisle that was supposedly supposed to tell how bonds came about from the moon goddess.
The library is just as useless. There was no tangible information as regards my bond acting out of place or even my tattoo.
I still had four hours before dinner with that connard.
Then I spot it at the edge of the shelf, an old book with the bold words, 'bond' only. Just what I was looking for.
I pulled out the book and sat back on the floor, opening the book with utmost care.
Even though the book is mainly about bonds, it didn't help much.
It only mentioned two situations of cases like mine happening and calling it 'Wildthread bond'
That's not enough for me to go by or even understand anything.
Apparently, the bond wasn't researched into because it wasn’t easily detected.
I snapped the book shut in annoyance and returned it. Coming to this place was a big waste of time.
I stomped down the stairs, still pretty much annoyed.
There was no library attendant in sight for me to ask questions from.
I went around the library to a branch of the healer's tent.
If memory serves right, there's always one not too far from the library in case of emergencies.
It was there!! And empty.
"I don't see many people around." A man appeared from behind the curtain, a big smile on his frail face.
I walked in fully, returning his smile. "I'm not sick, I just need help with something."
"What? Drugs?"
"What do you know about wildthread bonds?" I blurted out.
His smile didn't falter, but his eyes lost warmth.
"There's nothing to know about it." He said quickly and turned on his heels.
"Please," I begged, "My friend has one, and I need to help her. The library didn't help."
He scoffed, "The library won't do you any good when it's about the wildthread bonds, except you go to the other part of the library. It's always locked, though, and out of bounds."
"Is there a way to control the bond? Make it return back to normal?"
He sighed and gestured for me to sit.
"The wildthread bond can't be controlled and most certainly can't go back to normal. It can only be managed and maybe tamed, which is a theory. No one has ever fully tried to."
"Can the bond make a person do things?"
He stared at me like I've lost my goddamned mind, maybe I have.
"Why else would it be a wild bond?" He snapped, "It controls the couple involved but has greater effect on the weaker one."
He is wrong.
Ryyker isn't affected by the bond. Only mine mutated to become wild.
I've not felt it since yesterday, but I know it was there, and it's just waiting for the perfect time to make demands.
"This wildthread bond, can it react to other people?"
The old man nodded, "Yes, it can as well be very hostile to people it doesn't like. It doesn't matter if the bearer likes that person."
I frowned. That's one thing I had no idea of.
"The bond, as you might have already deduced, has a mind of its own. Think of it as your wolf, but instead of your wolf talking to you directly, it is abstract and communicates with feelings."
I sighed. I guess I'm stuck with this bond forever.
"Does it affect specific kinds of people?"
He shook his head, "The two people the bond affected had nothing in common. You should tell your friend to come and visit. Maybe with her help, we might finally be able to break through the bond."
As if I would.
"Also, tell her to be very careful, with an unstable bond like that, things can easily get out of control, and if she doesn't tame it soon, it would take total control of her body and thought. She'd be a visitor in her own body, and there is no saving her then." He added.
Cold dread went up my spine. The thought of not being in control of my body was scary.
"Did it happen to anyone?"
The old man shrugged, "Happened to the first woman. You should go, I have an actual emergency coming."
I smiled my thanks and left.
I had two hours remaining, better to get this over with quickly.
I went in the opposite direction of the mansion towards the place I grew up.
My family house.
