Chapter 20 Beast in check
RYKER
I sat by my window, looking out and stroking Simone's fur.
She purred in content while my mind reeled with different thoughts as I waited for Wesley to come.
Simone suddenly growled and jumped off my laps, disappearing into my closet, She hated strangers and would rather leave than have someone near me, It didn't matter that most people has been here long before and that she just appeared in my life out of the blues.
It also begs the question - Why didn't she leave that night with Zora in my room until l asked her to.
Wesley walked in few minutes later, his usual blank face had a grim expression on.
"It happened again, didn't it?? My head wouldn't stop banging and I have aches all over."
"Do you need me to get the pack's healer?"
"It's nothing I am not already used to. How many did it kill this time?"
"Twelve in total, five children, three women and four men."
"The council didn't come, right? And my absence wasn't noticed."
"Yes, I mean, not exactly."

I whipped my head around to face him, my voice dropped dangerously low and my claws were out instantly, "What do you mean?"
He visibly swallowed and straightened his shoulders like someone who has been served a death sentence and accepted his verdict, "Only one person coincidentally noticed your absence."
"Zora?"
He nodded in response.
I scoffed, my claw retracted back in, "What did you tell her??"
He pressed his lips together tightly before replying, "I swear by the goddess, I told her to go back to her room."
"She refused. What happened next?" I demanded. "Give me the short version."
"She saw and met with Ryder."
I narrowed my eyes at him, "And you couldn't have somehow prevented that? What if she goes blabbing her mouth?"
"Ryder almost killed her."
I snarled at him, and ran a hand through my hair in agitation.
"Is that all?"
"She also knows Ryder is your beast."
"For goddess' sake, Wesley!! How could you have let that happen? I trusted you to keep things in order."
"I'm sorry." He mumbled, head bowed.
"I should have known she would only cause trouble." I muttered pacing around my room which suddenly feels small. I wished somehow, I can remember everything the beast did, but no!! It's all part of that stupid curse.
"As long as she is here, she is always bound to find out, one way or the other."
"At least, it'd be later and I would have known how to handle the situation, not now, not this way!!"
"Can I suggest something??"
I paused to stare at him, "Sure." my lips thinned, "By all means, tell me what you have in mind. After all, this is due to your incompetence."
"What if you wipe her memory, so she forgets everything she saw and release her to leave so as to avoid something like this in the nearest future"
I raised an eyebrow, "And why would I do that? Make her go scot free even after my promise to ruin her? I don't think so."
"If you get rid of her, she would go back to her family, lead you to them, then you can exact your revenge and call it even with her. Everyone would be on their own and be happy. The end."
I frowned at him, that wasn't a bad idea and an easy way to get rid of her.
"Well except you don't want to be done with her just yet" He said in a low voice, narrowing his eyes at me. "Or is there another reason you're hesitating?"
I glared at him, "I'm not hesitating!! You are seeing things. Where is she now?"
"She should definitely be in her room, it's daybreak now."
"What was her problem?" I questioned, walking out of my room to hers.
"She mentioned the light bulb in her room being out."
"And you weren't able to change it, why??"
"I was busy trying to keep your beast in check."
"When we get there, take a look at the type of bulb and have it changed to something better."
"Would there be need for that?? I thought she is leaving now."
I threw him a look over my shoulder, shutting him up instantly.
"'I'll have it changed."
We walked in silence for a few seconds before Wes broke it.
"The healer's tent needs to be expanded, more and more people are getting sick and it's getting worse, both the people and their symptoms. A death was recorded this morning."
I stopped and tilted my head at him, "That has never happened in a really long while."
"Until she came along," he added.
"I continued walking, "It could be a coincidence."
"Or not." He piped in. "But I believe things should get better now that she is leaving."
"Gather people to help with the expansion of the healer's tent."
"Okay, Alpha." He mumbled.
I stopped in front of her door, hesitated for a second, then turned the door knob.
My lips parted involuntarily,
Goddess!! She was beautiful and she looks so peaceful asleep, when her lips is running or eyes staring down at me defiantly.
I walked in fully, Wes closely on my heels.
As if noticing my eyes on her, she stirred in her sleep and opened her eyes, those eyes staring back at me defiantly.
"Ryker?" She asked groggingly, confusion lacing her voice, "What are you doing here? Are you back?"
This was the best time to compel her, while she was still like this, looking lost and confused.
Compelling was one of the perks that came with my curse, or the only perk until recently when she came and I realized I could read minds.
Only hers so far though.
I took a deep breath and went to squat in front of her until we were at eye level, then I held her face, so her eyes would be on mine.
I noticed how perfectly her face fitted in my hands.
"It's morning, what's gotten into this damn man." I heard her say in her mind.
I focused.
She didn't break the eye contact or protested asides from the frown creasing her forehead.
"Forget everything you experienced and things you saw while I was a beast including my beast." I paused, aware of Wesley looking at me expectantly, "And leave never to come back or remember the way here."
Her lips parted slightly, the frown didn't leave.
"Um... Thank you but I think you are dumb to think I would ever want to come back to where my life was made a living hell and there's no way in hell I am forgetting a seven foot killing monster. Anyways, I'll be on my way now."
Wesley and I shared a look.
What just happened? How was this possible?
