Facing The Elders 1

(Author’s Point of View.)

“Forgive me, Your Majesty, if my way of articulating might have offended you. However, I stand here today not just as an Elder of Duminstian, but rather one of the Tseflatens council.” He said calmly then silently drew a deep breath to calm his wrecked nerves in other to retain his unfazed composure as to not give away how terrified he actually is; then went on – besides, even as your subjects, freedom of speech is undoubtedly not rest-“

“Get to the point, I don’t have all day!” Reagan said impatiently.

“I will take it from here Elder Samson!” This time, it was one of the Elders of Vadtanlinzt, which is the vampire council, who spoke.

Amelia immediately beholds the amount of power that was oozing out of the man who looks like he would be in his mid-thirties and a little pale.

“This one is different from the previous Elder,” she thought seeing how the man stood tall with his back straight, and not even a whiff of fear could be grasped from him. “Is he a vampire?” She asked in her mind knowing that he could hear her. Speaking of which, Amelia sneaked a side glance at Reagan, thinking how ashen he had gotten lately, and looked like this man in front of her right now, but quickly brushed it off. “Besides, his scent is nothing like that of a vampire, but rather that of a full-blown werewolf,” she concluded.

Amelia could feel that her senses had become heightened since she woke, and she wondered if it has anything to do with Reagan’s mark on her.

“Yes! He is not just any vampire but the general of their army, and one of the oldest vampires alive,” Reagan responded indifferently; his patience was running thin.

“I see.” Amelia could swear that if not for his smell, and his eyes that were blood red, no one would have been able to distinguish him as a vampire. What’s more, she could tell that this man would be hard to deal with should there ever be the need. Right then, she recalled that amongst the crowd she had met yesterday at the doorstep when she assumed Reagan had betrayed her, were also vampires.

Her heart twisted at the thought that she never would have believed him if not for the bond they share that enabled her to comprehend his sincerity; otherwise, she couldn’t even begin to imagine how things would have turned out. And for this reason, she is glad that the mate bond exists.

“King Reagan!” The man’s voice was strong, and it instantly pulled Amelia out of her thoughts. She took a side glance at her mate and her nerves settled down when she saw he was unfazed.

“There is nothing for you to be afraid of, love. I am right here with you,” Reagan’s voice came softly inside her mind, and her heart warmed at his reassurance.

“Do you mind explaining to us how your mate became her?” The man queried pointing his finger at Amelia in disdain. “For all we know, princess Elana is your intended mate.” He added without an ounce of fear whilst he carefully observed everyone’s expression then continued…

“We would also like to know the whereabouts of king Valan and the princess, as well as everyone who had accompanied them here yesterday,” the man demanded.

Reagan sneered. “You mean the one I was threatened to make my wife at the expense of my mate’s life?” He asked scornfully. “Did you all really think I would desert the woman I have yearned centuries for, in exchange for that filth? Or that the moon would bring us together only to forsake our love right from the start, without giving us a way out?” Reagan cocked his eyebrows in questioning.

Silence reigned in the huge hall for a couple of seconds as everyone took their time to process his words that carried so much meaning in them.

[Indeed, The Moon would never forsake her own,” someone from the crowd voiced out]

[That’s right! The mate bond is something very sacred and extremely rare. Thus, finding one’s fated mate, even if it is with a human, should be a cause for celebration not the other way around,” another voice came from the gatherings]

The vampire Elder remained unbothered by all the blabbering about the mate bond. Their goal is to trample over these bunch of dogs, and not listen about some stupid bond that stands in their way.

“King Reagan, I do not understand what you are getting at,” the vampire Elder named Donaghy, spoke with one of his eyebrows raised. “From what we all know, both our kingdoms reached an agreement accordingly for the benefit of the people. There was no such thing as threat involved. Or did I miss something else? That be the case, please correct me if I am wrong,” he said veering his head around at the other council members, which resonated a couple of no’s from them.

A sinister smile appeared on Reagan’s sultry lips. “Let me make something clear, if giving myself to another female meant that my mate gets to live, then I’d preferably die with her than ever allowing that to happen.” He stared intently at the vampire Elder, who in return, held up his gaze without an atom of hesitation.

Amused, Reagan’s cocky smile broadened. This man was openly challenging him without the backup of their instigator, and that caught his interest. Such bravery and his unquestionable loyalty to the throne, would be useful to him one day. Very soon he hoped.

Getting back to the topic at hand, Reagan scrutinised the Elders one by one until his gaze returned to the one still standing tall then opened his mouth to say, “I, Reagan…”, he dragged the word, then continued-

“Will never bed any other woman except her, neither will she ever give herself to another male! Of course, that is if such a thing would even be possible; because whoever it is will be dead before he even gets to smell her arousal!!!” Reagan’s voice boomed. “I don’t care whatever tricks you have up your sleeves, this little woman here,” he said bringing Amelia’s left hand to his soft lips, “she is mine, and mine alone!” He added possessively.

Tears brimmed in Amelia’s eyes at how much sincerity his words carried in them. She turned to one side to face him, “How I am so fortunate to have you?”

“I am the most fortunate one, love.” Reagan said with a smile.
