Chapter 73 An unexpected presence
Alyssa's POV
I narrowed my eyes looking at Aileen, who looked like a completely different person than when I saw her just the previous day. She was wearing makeup and the bags under her eyes had magically disappeared and she looked happy…and relieved.
"Let me get this straight, you asked your brother to seduce her and now she looks like she was royally fuck?”Aria asked.
"I just wanted him to cheer her up…I didn't know it was going to go that well." I defended myself, while the said person, who we have used several methods on to make her smile, stared at us like we were drunk.
“I've told you guys nothing happened." Aileen said. “We just connected on a deeper level."
“Deeper level? You literally just met him officially yesterday." Aria said.
Aileen smiled sheepishly, “maybe that's all it takes.” She said, and I took my head. I mean, I was happy that she was getting better but at the same time, I was worried I didn't think properly before deciding to introduce them to each other. I would hate it if it turns out to be another Tristan situation.
"But seriously, he's good company and I realised I can't avoid Tristan forever.” She said, like it was no big deal.
“We took you exactly that." Aria argued, and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
“There's something about the way he said it."
Aria shook her head, “I can't deal with her. She's far too gone." She murmured before turning to me, “and I can't believe you haven't introduced me to your brother. I heard he’s handsome.”
"Devastatingly!” Aileen murmured, and Aria glared at her but didn't say anything.
They went on to argue whether Jace was quickly taking over our space in her life and if she needed to set things straight. I just listened and watched with a hint of amusement.
“Well, I'm glad you're getting better…and I can kill Jace if he does anything wrong."
“He's perfect!"
I shook my head, completely done with whatever was going on. “I'm going to see my man, you can deal with her." I told Aria as I stood up.
“You're running away when you're the reason she's lovestruck?”
"I take no responsibility, all I did was introduce the two of them to each other.” She rolled her eyes while Aileen shrugged like it was none of her business.
Saying goodbye, I went towards Zayne's office, but paused when I caught sight of Jace. He looked like he was in a daze…that wasn't the right word, but it was going to do, until I talked to him.
“Don't you look mightily lost.” I said, crossing my arms in front of me.
He turned to look at me, “I don't know what you're talking about." He lied.
“Yea, and I'm pregnant." I told him and he froze, his eyes widening in surprise? Shock? I wasn't sure. "That's amazing, congratulations.”
I stared at him point blank, "I'm not pregnant, you idiot…and what did you do to Aileen? I mean, I said seduce her but I wasn't talking about it literally.”
“Did she say something?" He asked, his eyes brightening at the mention of Aileen's name. "I mean, it's not like I'm expecting something, just…” he trailed off.
"That's a first, you're rambling." I started, “but I have to warn you, you'll probably not leave here alive if you hurt her and even I won't be able to save you."
He swallowed hard, “I'm not going to hurt her…we just agreed to be friends." He was saying one thing, but his eyes said something else but before I could ask what he wasn't saying, I heard Zayne's voice through your mindlink.
“Where are you, Red?”
"I'm on my way to see you.” I replied, not hiding the smile in my voice. "Do you miss me already?”
He let out a groan, “you know I do." He murmured, and even without seeing him, I just knew he was running a hand through his hair.
“I'll see you in a bit." Giving one last warning to Jace, I made my way to Zayne's office, pushing it open.
His smile widened when he saw me, and if I wasn't already in love with him, it was going to happen with that smile. “I was taking care of something really important." I told him, making myself comfortable on his lap.
“I'm sure you were.” He agreed, wrapping his arms around me, his scent engulfing me.
My eyes scanned the documents that were scattered on the table, some of them were marked with a coloured pen. “Any luck?" I asked him.
He nodded, “I found something, but once I'm sure, I'll let you know."
“That's oddly vague."
He chuckled softly, “it's all you need to know for now.” He said, and I just rolled my eyes as he placed a kiss on my lips. "Were you with your brother?”
I nodded, "I was teaching him some vital lessons…just my duties as his sister." A small smile appeared on my lips. It was better than telling him I asked Jace to seduce his sister, who was heartbroken by his Gamma.
“Do I want to know why you have that smile on your face?”
"If you see anything other than how much I love you, you looking at it wrongly.” I whispered, leaning in to kiss him but he just froze, like a deer caught in headlights. “Are you okay?" I asked him.
“Xavier found something," he said. “An important lead, it'll provide an answer to what we've been looking for.”
"Then you better go, even if I'm disapponted." I pouted, but didn't let go of him.
His arms tightened around me, “Wait for me, I'll be back soon." He said instead and I nodded. He kissed me softly before leaving.
As I sat in the empty office, I picked the document on the table, my eyes scanning through it. The only thing I understood there was variant wolf, power and ancient. "I really need to start taking my Luna roles more serious.” I grumbled.
"At least you're self aware.” Nira murmured.
"Whatever do you mean?” I asked, but before she could respond, the door opened but instead of Zayne, his dad entered, and I froze.
Oh no!
