Chapter 6 Sparks and Secret
Chapter 6
Alyssa's POV
I touched my lips with my trembling fingers. They still tingled with the heat of him and no matter how much I tried to deny it, a part of me enjoyed it…maybe a little too much.
“What just happened?” I thought to myself. One minute I was asking him to reject me and the next minute he was kissing me senseless.
“Our mate is one hell of a good kisser…that's for sure.” My wolf said and I jumped. I had forgotten that she was even here. But she was right, it was perfect and felt like my first kiss all over again.
And for some weird reason, his name sounded familiar as if I've heard it before.
But I wasn't going to let myself get deceived. From the authority his presence alone excluded, it was obvious that he was an Alpha and it was only a matter of time before he realises he deserves someone better.
“No! He's ours!” My wolf said.
And as much as I wanted to believe that as well, I knew better than to put myself through the same situation again. “Don't get your hopes too high.” I warned, but she just shrugged and murmured something along the lines of how he was our soulmate.
Before I could ask her about what really happened the previous day, the door opened and instead of Zayne, a girl who looked like she was older than me with a year or two, entered, holding a tray and my face fell.
“You don't have to make it so obvious that you want Alpha Zayne to be here instead.” She said, pouting her lips playfully.
She sat beside me on the bed, placing the tray in front of her. The smell of whatever she brought filled my nostrils causing my stomach to growl loudly, reminding me that I haven't eaten anything since I left my Pack.
“It's not what you think.” I told her, but she just laughed.
“I know what you mean, Luna.” She replied. “And it's okay, it's the matebond, considering you just met.”
I ignored the title and concluded that no matter what I said, it wasn't going to stop them from using it…well, until the rejection.
“Do you think he's going to reject us after that kiss?” My wolf asked and I blocked her. My mind was already a mess just thinking about it, she didn't need to remind me.
The girl, whose name I found out was Aria, turns out to be the Beta's mate. She cleaned up the tray when I was done eating. She also prepared a bath for me and some clothes…mainly a white shirt and leggings, a good choice since we were different sizes. She waited until I was done before leaving, promising to come keep me company later.
She seemed like a nice person to have around…but again, I probably won't be around to get to know her.
Looking at the mirror, I put my hair in a bun before climbing back into the bed. “Why did you just appear now? I thought I didn't have a wolf.”
“Maybe I was waiting for someone to sweep me off my feet,” she replied, her tone light-hearted. “For the most part, I couldn't show up even if I wanted to.” She finished, and my brows furrowed in confusion.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
The door opened and this time, Zayne came in and I swear I lose my train of thought whenever I laid eyes on him. “I shouldn't let him affect me like this.”
My wolf snorted, “I'd like to see you try.” she said.
Zayne closed the distance between us, his gaze not leaving mine. “Aria said you were done, do you want to come out with me?”
I shook my head, and I didn't miss the way his face fell. My chest tightened, “he can get any girl he wants with a snap of his fingers.” I thought, the conversation the warriors were having. And they were right, with a face like his, there was no doubt a lot of girls were dying to have him.
But the thought of him with someone else didn't sit well with me. “My brain needs to be checked.” I concluded.
That didn't stop him, “You need to get some clothes…I'll take you.” He said.
Before I could protest, he reached out and took my hand. The moment our skin touched, sparks erupted under my skin, and my stomach felt like the entire zoo was released inside me. I froze, caught between the urge to yank my hand away and the aching need to hold on tighter.
Zayne’s eyes darkened, his thumb brushing against my palm like he already knew what I was feeling. “Let's go.” He repeated.
Just as he turned to leave, I snatched my hand away from him. “I don't want anything. You don't have to do anything for me.”
His brows raised, and his expression was unreadable “and why is that?” He asked, his voice calm…maybe too calm.
I swallowed hard, the words heavy on the tip of my tongue and I could feel my wolf shaking her head at me.
“Because I have a mate.” I told him before I could stop myself.
My wolf let out a small groan, “just when I thought it can't get worse.”
The words hung between us like a death sentence. His whole body went rigid, his eyes narrowing at me. I took a step backward but he stepped forward, his eyes changing colours.
“Look at me, Alyssa.” He began, my name rolling off his lips smoothly, his hand gripped my chin, tilting my face up to his. His eyes were wild, blazing gold as his wolf pushed closer to the surface. “Does it feel like you belong to anyone else?”
I felt my face heat up, since I met him, the thought of Ryder or anything related to him was forgotten. “Umm…I-I…,” I stammered, unable to come up with anything.
He stepped back, a smirk playing on the corner of his lips. “I thought as much.” He said, leaving and this time, he pulled me along with him.
We passed several people who turned their heads to look at us, curiosity evident in their eyes. But we didn't stop until we got to an open space…a garage, where there were more cars than I could count on both fingers.
“Just who was he?” I thought.
A car came to park in front of us before I opened my mouth and embarrassed myself. Aria and the person who I was there the night I was caught stepped out. While Aria was all smiles, he was the opposite.
“You’ve met them before,” Zayne started, “this is Aria and my Beta, Xavier.” He introduced.
I waved at them shyly and Aria offered me a large smile. “The amount of energy she has was unmatched.”
Once the formalities were done, Zayne opened the door to the backseat, helping me in. Aria rushed to the other side, but was held back by her mate.
“Are you okay?” Zayne asked, climbing in beside me.
I nodded, “thank you.”
He just shrugged and brought out his phone, leaving me to look out of the window as the car left the garage. I listened to Aria talk about all of the fun things we were going to do at the mall, her voice bubbling with excitement and for some weird reason, I felt excited about it. I should’ve felt out of place, but instead, a strange warmth tugged at my chest.
At least something was going right.
