Chapter 58 Pancakes and Kisses
Alyssa's POV
“I'm sorry," I told him. He didn't say anything but his arms tightened around me and for that moment, it was okay.
He lifted me effortlessly towards the couch before helping me sit comfortably before kneeling in front of me, his eyes not leaving mine. And using his thumb, he wiped my tears away.
"I'm sorry,” I repeated, but he shook his head.
"You've been crying.” He said, "I'm sorry I made you cry…I'm sorry I broke my promise."
I swallowed hard, shaking my head. “I should've listened to you and not put myself in danger." The words came out at once. “I know you were only worried about me and I-I ignored t–”
"Red,” he interrupted, his voice sounding tired .
"Do you hate me?" I asked, “I'm stubborn and I don't listen—” His lips came crashing on mine, swallowing the rest of my words.
The kiss was anything but gentle, his lips moved against mine desperately, as if he was trying to tell me something that words alone couldn't convey the way he wanted it to. My breath caught as his hands cupped my face, holding me as if I was something fragile.
When he finally pulled back, just enough for our foreheads to touch, his voice came out low and rough.
“Does that feel like I hate you?” He didn't wait for me to answer, "I could never hate you.”
"With a kiss like that, I can tell you what's going on in his mind and it's definitely not hatred.” Nira chirped in and I swear, she only appears when she feels like it.
“But I'm going to admit, you scared me,” he whispered. “You have no idea how terrified I was when I thought—” His voice broke for a second, jaw tightening. “I can handle anything, Red. Anything except losing you.”
My chest tightened painfully.
“It won’t happen again,” I murmured, sliding my hands up his arms. “I promise.”
He exhaled slowly, as if those words released something inside him, and he rested his head on my knees for a moment, letting out a shaky breath. “I love you." He told me.
The tightness in my chest had long disappeared and I felt at peace now. “I love you."
We remained like that for a while until my stomach growled, reminding me that I barely ate anything after what I had at breakfast. Even the food we got at the mall was probably in Tristan's stomach by now.
“I had your food brought to the room.” He said, and I felt warmth spread through my body. Even though he was angry, he still cared about me.
I pointed to the table where the food was sitting untouched, "I was waiting for you." He muttered something underneath his breath that I didn't bother listening to.
“I'll make something for you." He said, audibly this time. I threw my hands in the air, causing his brows furrowed. “Carry me." He chuckled softly, but carried me anyway, my legs wrapped around his waist.
And with me clinging to his body, he went to the kitchen which was empty as everyone else had gone to bed. “What do you want to eat?"
“You," I thought.
He chuckled again, “I meant food, Red.” He said, and my face turned a bright shade of red before I murmured “pancakes."
And he did just that, making pancakes for both of us and the only time he dropped me was when he began frying the pancakes. When he was done, he fed me since I wouldn't let go of him. He was mad at me for only a few hours but it felt like years…I didn't want to experience it again.
We finally went to bed after we were done eating and taking a much needed shower.
By the time I woke up the next day, it was already afternoon and I was alone in bed and I frowned. “Where is he?" I thought.
Without bothering to take a shower, I made my way to his office where I had no doubt he was going to be. He was there, and so were Xavier and Tristan, who wore a known smile after greeting me.
I went straight to Zayne's side, sitting on his leg and burying my face in his chest. “Why didn't you wait for me to wake up?"
"I needed to deal with something…didn't want to wake you up.” He replied, "you slept late last night.”
"Kiss me.” I murmured, lifting my face to look at him and his lips met mine.
Was I acting like a child? Yes, and did I like it? Absolutely. He wasn't complaining, so who cares.
“I'm going to take a shower," I told him, when we finally pulled away and our breathing was back to normal. “I don't think I want to though, I smell like you."
“We can fix that once you're done." He said and my smile widened.
I was in a better mood when I went back to the room, I even sang in the shower…it was good but it was terrible either. I wore a black leggings and a white tank top before going back to Zayne's office. He was alone this time.
“Hungry?"
I shook my head, "the pancake was very filling."
He nodded, taking my hand in his as he led me out of the office, towards the guest rooms. Before I could ask where we were going, we stopped in front of a room and he opened the door…Jace was lying on the bed, with two warriors standing in one corner.
“Jace…” I started, but paused to look at Zayne who just nodded.
Compared to how he looked when I saw him the previous day, he was better. The swelling in his face had also reduced .
“Be careful," Zayne said. “The warriors are going to be here just in case."
I hugged him, “thank you." I murmured quietly and he nodded before leaving.
I went towards Jace, dragging a chair to sit on. “Are you okay?" I asked him. He looked at me, as if waiting for me to realise the question I just asked. “Considering the fact that you looked dead yesterday, I have to say this is an improvement."
He rolled his eyes, “you sure know how to make a guy feel special."
A small smile appeared on my face, “you're okay."
"You look happy,” He told me after a while. “It looks good on you. And the Alpha king? How did that happen?"
I just shrugged, “I'll tell you everything once you're better." He nodded. I stayed with him for a while, we didn't have much to talk about…at least not when he was fighting to stay awake.
Telling him I would come back when he was well rested, I stood up to leave.
“Elara is here, have you seen her," he asked, and the way my head snapped to him,
“What?"
Just what was going on?
