Chapter 13 Flirting with Trouble
Chapter 13
Alyssa's POV
Lori looked at me, not bothering to hide her anger and if looks could kill, I'll probably be six feet below. But she didn't say anything as she stomped her feet down the hallway.
My wolf snorted, “Isn't she a bowl of sunshine?" She said and I rolled my eyes, just as Zayne approached me.
"I'm sorry you had to hear that…" he apologized, taking my hands in his and leading me to the couch but instead of sitting beside him, he pulled me to his leg and wrapped his arms around my waist, sending shivers down my spine.
I could feel my face heating up, “someone can walk in anytime." I reminded him and my wolf scoffed, “is that supposed to stop him?"
He smirked, his breath warm against my neck. “Let them,” he murmured, his voice low and husky. “I don’t care who comes in, you’re mine.”
My pulse quickened at his words, the possessiveness in his tone stirring something deep inside me. “You can’t just say things like that,” I whispered, trying to sound composed.
“I'm not just saying it, Red. It's how I feel." He said, kissing my neck softly and I fought back a moan.
He knew exactly what he was doing to me and for some reason, I didn't mind. He leaned in to kiss me, his lips just inches away from mine but before it could happen, we were interrupted by the sound of the door opening.
“Alpha…” Xavier's familiar voice called and at this point, I was sure he had a thing against us kissing.
Zayne let out a small groan, pressing his forehead against mine. “What do you want?" His voice was laced with irritation, but still didn't let go.
“It's important." He said simply, before murmuring a quiet sorry.
I didn't wait for Zayne's response before standing and excusing myself so they could discuss whatever Xavier brought along. A part of me was curious but I knew better than to interfere…Ryder made it clear that pack business isn't for weak people. So I was already grateful that Zayne was even allowing me into his office.
Not wanting to go back to the childcare, I walked around the Pack until I got to a large tree covered with flowers. “You should pick some for our mate." My wolf said.
“He wouldn't like it."
“He will, if it's from us."
“I hope you're right." I murmured, going close enough to pick some of the flowers that were within my reach. But I had barely taken even one when I heard a voice behind me.
“Do you need help, beautiful?” The voice asked, and I turned to see a tall, broad-shouldered man leaning casually against the tree trunk. His lips curved into a teasing smile.
“I'm fine." I replied simply.
“I knew something interesting was going to happen today, but I wasn't sure…I didn't plan on meeting my soulmate today.”
I chuckled softly, "You're mistaken.”
He shook his head, "I'm not, but you already know that, seeing the pretty smile on your face.”
This time, my smile widened. Apart from the fact that I had no idea who he was, I didn't feel like I had to worry. I could also tell that he was joking…I think.
“That's not the response I was expecting, but I'll take that." He grumbled.
“Maybe if you use a different line, it'd work on some other girl.” I told him. "I can even help you if you want.”
"I guess I'll take what I can get.” He grumbled, but asked what tips I had.
We spoke for a few minutes…more like I filled him in on what he could do to appear more attractive to ladies. He already had the looks, so we were going to work on his personality. He was fun to talk to, and I felt comfortable talking to him.
“I see you've met Tristan." Aria, who I hadn't heard coming, said. "Don't be fooled, he flirts with every living thing.”
"She's lying.” The man, whose name I realise was Tristan, argued, causing me to raise an eyebrow at him. “Only when I see beautiful people…and you're perfect.”
Aria snorted, "I'm sure Alpha Zayne would like to know what you think of his mate.”
The smile on his face quickly disappeared, and was replaced by confusion and finally fear. “Shit…he's going to kill me, isn't he?” He asked, and Aria nodded, wearing a pleased smile on her face. “And I'm going to enjoy watching it."
“Not helping." Tristan muttered before turning to face me. “How about I tell you things about him and we pretend this conversation never happened."
I thought about it for a few seconds before deciding to play along. "That depends, what kind of things?”
"I'm not saying…until you promise." He replied. “But I can assure you that you're going to like them." He added, a mischievous look flashed through his eyes.
"Deal.”
Aria groaned, "I'm not a part of whatever is going on right now,”
As Tristan spilled secrets…more like the mischief he was involved in when they were younger. I found out he was Zayne's Gamma and best friend, who was traveling several packs in search of his mate but had no luck, so he decided to return before going back again.
I felt bad for him, but knew that whoever his mate was, would be the luckiest girl when he found her.
I found myself laughing at the crazy stories Tristan had to tell. It was difficult imagining Zayne as anything other than the feared Alpha King.
“There's a lot of things we don't know about our mate." My wolf said. "We should ask him to tell us.”
“I’m surprised you're thinking about something other than sex today."
She just rolled her eyes, “one of us has to do it." I blocked her before she could say anything else.
As we neared the Pack house, I felt like I was being watched but when I looked around, I didn't see anyone so I pushed the thought aside…beside, a lot of pack members were retiring to the dining room in pack house for dinner.
“We're going to be best friends, I can feel it." Tristan announced, holding my hand and swinging happily.
“Hold on, you're a few weeks too late for that to happen." Aria said, holding my other hand and I couldn't help smiling.
Having people actually willing to be friends with me was new…Zayne accepting me was already a miracle. Nobody wanted to be friends with someone who was fat and didn't have a wolf. And although I had my wolf, I still couldn't mindlink anyone or shift…the only time it happened was because I was in danger.
“He's just saying that because I won't tell Zayne about the…”
I paused, when I looked up and the said person was standing in front of me, his arms crossed in front of him. "Tell me what?” he asked, brows raised and his eyes fixed on my hand where Tristan was holding me.
Tristan’s fingers slipped away, but it was too late. Zayne’s eyes lifted, dark and unreadable.
And then, without a word, he smiled.
