20. A HAND IN ATTEMPTED MURDER
JAYDA
Many questions stumbled through my mind. The reason Daemon had killed the assassinator. Why didn't he let the rogue tell me who was behind the attack? Did Daemon have something to do with it? There was no other explanation and I didn't want to think too much about it.
I didn't want to think that Daemon could harm me. It is ironic because Daemon came to kidnap me yet I defend him in my head. That he would never hurt me.
Hence I made my way out of my room, having one thought in mind. I would question him and find out why he had killed the rogue. Perhaps it was a mistake. I had many guesses in my head which was troubling me and causing me a headache.
The moment I stepped in front of his door, I heard noises but ignored them because of what was on my mind. I needed answers and gentle noises weren't one.
I opened the door and stepped in only to find Daemon on top of her. When I say her, I mean his mate. Her hands were around his back, her fingers digging into his skin. And I stood rooted to the floor, watching the scene play out in front of me. I knew I shouldn't be watching. I should have walked out because this wasn't my spot or place but I was just too stunned to move.
And what I felt in my heart right now was strange. It felt like watching a knife pierce through my heart. It was sad and hurtful, to see Daemon with another woman. And Cassandra made it worse by moaning and sounding like a snake.
The next moment, I was noticed. Cassandra was the first to see me and she didn't stop. I knew she did that to tell me Daemon was hers. This I knew but some part of me was almost against it because I know she does not deserve him.
I turned around and walked out of the room, forgetting about the question that had been troubling my mind. While I was rushing to my room, I heard Daemon’s fast step approaching me. Suddenly, he grabbed my arm, stopping me and I turned to him.
“Jayda,” he called.
“Yea?” I answered, making my expression neutral. It felt awkward, a kind of emotion I couldn't explain. It did feel like a knife stabbing my heart but I knew it wasn't that. It was something else, probably because of the things troubling my mind.
“Uhm, for...” he stuttered. It was the first time I heard him stutter. He had never done this. He was always collected. Put together. Staring at him right now, his voice was almost shaky.
“I am sorry you had to see that” he said
“Why?” I raised my brows.
“Because... I mean.”
“I didn't knock, it's my fault. I should have knocked, it's your room” I explained. I shouldn't have walked in like that.
“No, I should have locked the door. Are you okay?” He asked me and I nodded. In the back of my mind, I knew that I shouldn't be getting any explanation. What Daemon did wasn't wrong, that was his mate but what I didn't like was that he came out to apologise to me.
“I just need to rest, my head hurts” I ran my hand in my hair before turning around.
“Okay” I heard his voice as I walked back to my room. I had completely forgotten about the issues bothering my mind. My head was truly hurting.
As I made a corner going to my room, I saw Freya heading toward me. I decided not to talk to her as she had ignored me the first time. She didn't look like she liked me very much. However, she came and stopped in front of me making me stop as well.
“Hi, Freya” I was forced to say. She kept looking at me and the silence was dragging on too long.
However, she didn't respond.
She was staring at me, deep and there was disdain in her eyes.
“Do you need anything?” I asked.
“Yes" she said with contempt.
“Okay?” I asked waiting for what she wanted. She still had a contemptuous look on her face and it was getting to me. Almost makes me mad. The stare felt like I was on a display and she was a market woman who wanted to buy me as a slave.
“What are you doing?” She asked making me raise my brows, wondering what she was talking about.
“What am I doing?” I asked.
“What is your intention? I know you have a motive. There is a reason you came here, to this pack” She gazed at me, her eyes traveling deep into mine with disdain.
“I came because I am a healer. I came to heal the pack of the disease-spreading about. What other motive could it be?” I asked raising my head. And I was tired and weak. I hated the stare and the fact that I was standing in front of this lady annoys the shit out of me.
“No, you came to take my brother away. You think you can trickishly become the Luna of this pack. You must be hungry for power!” She rolled her eyes.
“Hungry for power?” I asked. Goodness, if I were to be hungry for power, I wouldn't be standing in front of her in this manner. I would be flaunting and I was already a Luna in power before Daemon came to forcefully take me from my pack.
“Yes. I am going to give you one warning, just one. And that is to stay away from my brother. He belongs to Cassandra. They are mates, brought together by the moon goddess. Got it?” She glared at me, the threat was almost threatening.
I sighed.
“I am not here for your brother. This is so disrespectful, for you to think that I would try to steal a man that has a mate. Freya, get off my back. Your brother is the Alpha, yes but it doesn't mean every woman wants to be with him. Get off my back.” I uttered calmly. It couldn't even be referenced as a warning.
Freya smirked.
“I dare you, to do anything stupid. To do as little as touch a strand of his hair and then I will kill you” She stepped closer and then poked my chest.
“I dare you.” she said it again.
“Get off my back and stop been a little peasant” I rolled my eyes before walking past her. My head ached more, and I knew I was becoming fed up with the entire thing.
DAEMON
“Why did you attack her? This was not part of the plan” I said. After the awkward scene with Jayda, I had to come here.
“She has to die” he said, looking in my eyes severely. The thought of Jayda dying scared me. It scared me beyond the total amount of fear my heart could process.
“No, this isn't part of the plan. I said I was going to take her away and I did. Death? That was never a part of the plan, why the hell would you send those wolves to kill her?" My eyes were darkening at this time. We had a fucking deal and now they are after her life? What was the purpose of going through those shit if they were just going to come and end her life?
“Because our boss is scared that she will come back. You know Jayda and how powerful she is.” He hissed gently.
“I am assuring you right now, she will not come back. I am keeping her here forever” I assured. This was a man from the bloodhound pack, they were the ones that came to attack Jayda.
One of the men didn't die and Jayda almost found out who they were. I had to kill him irrespective of her asking me questions that I didn't have answers to.
“You have to, because if you don't, she will be killed. Our former Luna can never come back. The moment she is sighted, she will die” He added, making me run my hand in my hair.
I didn't know how I was going to keep her here. We already made a deal that I would let her go back but that was something I would do later. For now, she will stay here and I will continue to keep her even if it means tying her down.
“She will never come back, I promise you”
“Daemon?” The feminine voice called. I was surprised to see her behind me. Jayda. I saw Jayda looking surprised behind me. At the same moment, a feeling like a caterpillar ran through my body. I had never felt that way before. Not even when I was faced with one of the strongest Alpha and I had to battle with him.
During training with my father, there was never fear but today I felt it.
She was staring at me and streams of questions ran through her eyes. She wanted to know more, more than I couldn't give. And I knew I was scared of not being able to provide her with answers. The ones she desperately needed because once she finds out the truth, she will either hate or leave me and I can't let that happen.
