16. A NEW WITCH AND A DEATH THREAT
JAYDA
He let out a sharp breath, “She threatened me, I didn't want to be a part of this. She wanted you dead because she is jealous of you.”
I was supposed to be stunned but I couldn't be. I knew Cassandra was that kind of person. An evil witch who would cheat and not want to be cheated on. She thinks that Alpha Daemon would cheat on her like she did to him.
There was a silence between Beta Axel and me, he was just staring at the blade with fear. Fear that I would cut him.
“You should be scared of me, that's what will save you from my wrath. Cassandra can't do half of what I would do to you if you ever try to kill me again!” I snapped and he frowned.
He wasn't used to being threatened by a woman for sure and as a Beta, his instinct kicks in. He was third after the Alpha, the Luna was usually the second.
“Got it?” I asked again.
“Yes” He huffed.
I dropped my knife back in my satchel and with this, we continued our journey. However, I couldn't take the thought out of my head. She went as far as threatening the Beta? That shows how desperate she was to have me dead.
All I came to do was heal the pack. Her pack. She didn't care that if I died, the pack would probably go extinct from the deadly disease that was spreading. How could someone be so evil?
Axel stayed a few feet away from me probably scared that I would kill him in the bushes and run.
I could do it but I wasn't that kind of person. I wasn't Cassandra and I would never behave like her.
“Are we there yet?” I asked.
Beta Axel shook his head negatively.
“A few turns” he replied.
Finally, we got to the entrance of the house.
Before going in, I held his arm. He kept his head fixated into space, giving me his ears.
“Don’t mess with me again, Axel. Don't try to make me turn against you because if I do that, you will regret existing. Alpha Daemon will know everything you have been hiding from him” I whispered in his ears before going in first.
By the entrance, I saw an older woman and a man. I guessed that it was the boy’s Stress, worry, anxiety, all etched on their faces.
The mother’s hair looked like it hadn't been washed in weeks. The father looked weak as well as if he had exhausted all of his energy.
I bowed my head slightly in front of them as a form of respect and also because I felt bad for them.
“You are the healer?” The woman asked and I nodded.
Beta Axel was behind me, standing there like a bodyguard I didn't ask for. The same man that tried to kill me was pretending to protect me. Bastard, I just disliked him with every fibre in me.
“Yes” I answered.
“Thank Godness, you are here” The woman cried and stepped closer.
“Please, help my son, If you help my son, I will give you anything you want” She sobbed desperately.
“Yes, do anything to heal our son, healer. Whatever you want, we’ll provide” The father added.
I hadn't seen the child hence I couldn't say that I could heal him yet.
“I will try my best” I simply stated. I tried not to make any promises because healing doesn't work that way. It was not everything even I, could heal.
“Come” The mother held my hand and led me into the room. My eyes went wide when I saw a little boy tied to the bed. Dark spots took over his body, and his face was morphing into something one couldn't predict.
“Look at him, look at my poor baby” She uttered as tears rolled down her pale cheeks.
“We tied him because he tries to run out every time. He screams and shouts when he sees the sun” She said, I was stunned, flashbacks hit me instantly, flashbacks of a possessed man, my aunty used to take me places where she casted spells from people, the little boy had the same characteristics.
I noticed that the room was dark. There was no sunlight seeping in. The only form of illumination was the lights in the room.
“We don't know what is wrong with him but we are sure that it is not the rampant disease, this is something else” She sobbed.
I did not say anything because I was observing the boy. I was trying to sense the energy seeping from him. The mother was right, it was not the rampant diseases, it was something else.
“You are right” I glanced at her before looking back at the boy.
It would have been better if it was that disease because I could have easily healed him. Whatever energy that was seeping out of him was dark, something like a dark force roaming through his entire body. A dark spell, a scorpions bite would not be able to induce a dark spirit into this boy.
Right there and then it occured to me. He was bewitched!
This was the reason witches were hated by wolves. They believed they were evil and truly, witches could overpower wolves, anytime, any day.
“I need some time to examine him” I said.
She nodded and walked out leaving me and the boy. And then I walked closer to him, and more of that energy sipped out of him.
His face looked weak, his body smaller than his head. It was quite obvious that he had lost a lot of weight and that spell was eating him up.
I was right, a witch had cast a bad spell on the boy. Only a witch could heal him but that was where the problem lies, these people hate witches. The healing required for him takes a lot of chanting, which would reveal my secret that I was a witch.
“What should I do?” I looked at him in pity.
My heart was pounding in my chest, I was at cross roads. What should I do?!
After some time, I walked out, and the parents looked at me eagerly.
“Your son must have collided with some witches, only a witch can undo the spell” I blurted.
Their eyes went from hopeful to despair. Beta Axel gave me a look that I did not quite understand. I ignored him and tried comforting them. After we were done, we headed out. As we walked back to the pack house, I couldn't help but think about that innocent boy.
I could do it. I could heal him.
That thought alone broke me. That I could heal him but I left. I left because I wanted to protect myself. It was right yet I felt every part of me was against it.
“Are you okay?” Beta Axel asked, I gave a faint smile and looked away.
With this, I went into my room thinking about it all.
It was all I could do, think over and over again. The spell to heal him was huge, and it even required collecting energy from nature. Everyone will know i did it for sure. They would. It wasn't something that I could do secretly.
I thought about it until I was taken by oblivion. The next morning, I was woken up by a knock. I sighed and ran my hand over my hair before glancing over at the time. It was almost noon. Well, I didn't sleep through the night.
I got up and opened the door to find a maid. She bowed her head slightly before delivering the message.
“The Alpha would like to see you” she said.
I nodded and went to freshen up. After I was done dressing, I walked to the throne room. There, I met Alpha Greyson. His eyes reminded me of my dad every time. It wasn't like he looked like him but there was an aura every Alpha holds that reminded me I had a father who used to be Alpha and Greyson was his Beta.
“How are you today, Jayda?” He asked but I noticed sadness in his voice. He didn't sound good
“Fine, Alpha” I morphed out a smile.
“Well, I brought you here to talk to you about the diseased boy of yesterday ” he said and my heart sank immediately.
"He is dead" Alpha Greyson said, my eyes widened in shock, my heart began to compress at the utterance of his words.
My eyes went wide and my hands froze. Suddenly, it felt like my blood wasn't flowing anymore. Dead?
What the hell?! Damn. I kept quiet and said nothing because my brain was still trying to get used to the new information.
“Don't feel bad, there was nothing you could do. It is the useless witch who did this we should blame, we will make sure to find any witch and behead them” He said with authority.
Yes, the witch.
I will catch that which. I will make sure she pays for treating a young boy like that. No matter what he didn't deserve to die. I will avenge his death.
Damn. My entire body still reverberated with pain and I almost couldn't believe such tragedy happened to him.
"You are also a witch, if they find out you are one, you will be killed for the boy's death" my wolf said to me and I froze.
