What If...

What If...
I can't believe that my heightened emotion would land me in Verlice's room. But that was what happened, and right now, I'm here without preparation and meeting Verlice like this…
The door was suddenly pulled open and, through the slightly parted door, I was able to see Verlice’s figure.
Oh goddess! My heart clenched and sadness gripped me. A lump gripped my throat.
My Verlice!
How did my Verlice end up like this… looking like this? My heart ached. Verlice looked so thin, his face looked a bit sallow. Overall, he looked haggard. He was never like this.
Verlice missed me. He noticed my absence. He cares about me.
Suddenly, Verlice paused in his tracks and his eyes narrowed with an indecipherable glint. "El… Elsher?"
Hearing his voice made my heart tremble. Verlice. Oh goddess, how I want to throw myself into his arms, hug him so tight and never let him go.
Verlice’s eyes suddenly turned cold. "Who's there?" His voice was frigid, lacking emotion. He shut the door behind him and took a step forward. "I know someone is in here. Reveal yourself. Right now."
His voice turned colder with each sentence. "How did you get in?"
My heart trembled, and I held on to his clothes tighter. I didn't move. I couldn’t move. It was as if my feet were glued to the floor or something.
I could only watch Verlice as he checked the room, completely sure that someone was in here while making sure that he wasn’t missing something.
"Your scent is flooding in here. If I were you, I would step out of that closet. Using Elsher's scent, you must have a death wish!"
Verlice suddenly lunged and pulled the closet door open.
I froze. He froze!
"Hey… Hubby." I called awkwardly while trying to pull a smile.
Verlice snapped out of it and took a step back, his eyes drifting from my head to toe. Suddenly, his eyes turned sharp and cold like he was looking at a stranger. Like he was staring right at an enemy.
"What the hell are you doing here? Get out of here right now!" Verlice roared.
Hearing his cold tone made my heart shake. Something seemed to tighten around me, making it hard to breathe.
Tears pooled in my eyes and I shook my head. "No. I won’t leave. This is my pack. This is my home too."
Verlice’s jaw clenched and he took a step forward with eyes spewing venom.
“You must have a fucking death wish.”
He spat out with gritted teeth. "Elsher, what games are you trying to play here? Don't you really have a big gut? How can you come in here and try to pretend nothing happened to us?”
He scoffed like he had just heard a joke. “Home?”
His eyes turned cold. “Get out. There's no us. There's no you and I..."
My heart felt as if it had been punched through. It hurt so much. It felt so uncomfortable. Really.
"Verlice..."
"Get lost before I do something I swear I won't regret. I don't want to see you anymore, Elsher. Out." His voice was totally cold.
My heart trembled and all the confidence in me slowly disappeared. How could I make Verlice listen to me when he doesn't even want to see me?
Yet maybe it was the anger that he was about to marry the same woman who had kidnapped me that roared out of me.
"You betrayer, how can you blame me? You are the one to talk?"
Verlice's eyes turned cold. He took a step forward, his figure very condescending.
"What did you just say?" He spoke out through gritted teeth.
"Yes. I said it. You are a betrayer, Verlice Mintz. How could you end up with that woman who attacked me right in your clan and tortured me for days? How can you claim to love me when you could get together with her in less than three months of my disappearance? How cheap of a love you claimed to have. Verlice Mintz, be honest with yourself. You don't love me at all. I bet you're glad to hear about my disappearance. You must even have said somewhere along the line, it's just as expected..."
Verlice suddenly pressed me against the closet with eyes seething with fury.
Before he could move, I threw my hands around his neck and kissed him with passion.
Verlice scowled and tried to push me away, yet I wouldn't let go. I would be a fool too.
I jumped on him and wrapped my legs around him, my hands wrapped around him so tight that he was unable to let me go.
After a few seconds of trying to fight me and failing, he pressed me against the closet and kissed the life out of my lips.
By the time he let me go, I was completely out of breath. I collapsed on my butt while gasping for breath.
My whole body felt weak, all for him. All needy for him. I really miss him. I miss us so much.
Verlice glared at me and turned to leave.
Yet I wasn't a bit fazed. I had confirmed… Verlice couldn't fight me at all. He couldn't do without me either.
"On the night of Tiara's party, she called me to pick up something in her house. I was kidnapped right there. She had planned the party just to kidnap me. Tiara tortured me and told me all that she had done. I was in a coma for months. I woke up a few days ago with no memory of me or my past. I had just recovered my memory last night." I spoke up before he could walk out of the room.
Verlice paused in his steps. He suddenly turned back to look at me.
"Are you lying?"
"The trigger awakened my wolf. If you don't believe me, I'll let Elena tell you all the details." I calmly spoke.
Verlice looked at me with eyes that were filled with indecipherable emotions. Yet being faced with such complexity in his eyes made me nervous. Did he believe me?
What if he had already fallen in love with Tiara and he wouldn't get together with me? What if...
"How did you get in?" Verlice suddenly asked.
I blurted out without thinking, "I was saved by the witch tribe. I learned a teleportation skill to escape from there. It brought me here."
Verlice fell silent again and I don't know what he was thinking.
My heart clenched.
What if he doesn't want us?
"Verlice, I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I know it was all my fault. I..."
