“Elena! What is wrong? Are you okay?” May stepped forward and spoke anxiously, as if she didn’t know what she had done. As if she were a good person.
I sneered internally at her ridiculousness.
She clearly knew what she had done, yet she still dared to pretend.
“This… it… it is so strong,” I cried out while gripping my head pitifully.
May’s hand rubbed my hair gently. “Elena, you wanted a fast recovery, so I told the doctor to make a stronger potion. I’m so sorry. It’s only because I’m concerned for you. I promise that once you wake up, everything will be gone and fine.”
My heart turned cold.
I didn’t fail to notice how May was calling me by my name now.
I guess everything had been a façade.
I gritted my teeth and made a declaration in my mind. Once I healed, I would help the witch clan enter the real world and live as they were originally meant to.
But after what May had done, I swore I wouldn’t leave here without teaching her a serious lesson.
May was trying to mess with me because I was in her grasp. She underestimated me if she thought I wouldn’t settle the score later.
My father didn’t raise a weak girl!
Wait. Where did that come from?
“That came from Princess Elsher — the real you,” my wolf grinned. “It seems whatever concoction May gave us won’t help her.”
Good.
“I know pregnant women aren’t supposed to use such strong concoctions. It won’t affect my baby, will it?” I gasped, speaking in a stutter as blood trailed down my lips.
May’s smile went stiff for a second. I could sense she didn’t want this baby.
After a few seconds, she replied, “It won’t.”
“This baby… did I bring it from the werewolf clan?”
“Of course not, Princess Elena. It is from the witch tribe,” she replied, though her voice lacked enthusiasm.
I frowned and whispered through the pain, “So it belongs to Stephen? Yet he doesn’t seem concerned about our baby. Could it be that we have some bad memories between us, May? Is no one telling me the truth?”
May straightened her back. “Elena, you’re not supposed to talk. You have to let the medicine work. With a potion like this, I believe you’ll recover almost fully within a week. Also, I have good news concerning the werewolf clan. There has been internal war among them, and their rift with the vampire clan is only getting stronger. We now have a chance to move in.”
“Talking about the werewolves, May… I need to recollect my memory.”
May froze, and her smile withdrew. “Why, Princess Elena? I thought you didn’t want to.”
“I don’t want to run away like a weakling. My mother died fighting honorably. I have to make sure the people who hurt me don’t go scot-free. I have to make them pay.”
Even through my pain, I could see that May had become flustered.
“Well… we already told you not to seek revenge. As long as you’re fine, none of that matters.”
I shook my head. “If I am going to snatch the witch tribe’s land from the werewolf and vampire clans, it means I have enough strength to make whoever hurt me and my mother pay.”
I smiled gently. “Also, Stephen and I must have made a lot of sweet memories in the past. It would be bad not to recollect everything, wouldn’t it?”
May froze and stuttered, “Why… why are you speaking like this?”
I blinked innocently. “Did I say something wrong? All this time, you seemed to want me to recollect my memory. Now, I agree with you.”
May’s smile became tight-lipped. “Yes… of course I do. Don’t worry. I will speak to the doctor about it. These things cannot be forced. We have to take it gently.”
“I know that. Thank you, May. You really care about me so much — just like a real mother.”
I shut my eyes, pretending to fall into slumber because of what she had given me.
May fell silent. In the next moment, she turned and walked out, shutting the door with a bang.
My eyes flew wide open.
Seeing everything made me realize how disgusting May was and how far she would go to make her plan work.
Using my wolf side, I cleared the effect of the concoction from my body.
I don’t know how the concoction would have affected my system.
Also, judging by how cruel May was, this wasn’t the first time she had used it.
That was the reason I let the concoction circulate through my system briefly — to create the perfect act that would fool her.
“May doesn’t care about my baby. I can guess she’ll find a way to sabotage it.”
“What? Why? Nothing can happen to our pup!” my wolf became emotional and agitated, her voice trembling.
“Stephen must be May’s son. And he’s clearly a sensitive and arrogant man who believes the world belongs to him. He never asked about the pregnancy, which means he doesn’t care. If he doesn’t care, then he won’t want the child either. That’s why he stayed out of the topic. Stephen must believe they’ll abort it. That’s why he pretended not to know. And May didn’t hesitate to give me such a strong concoction despite my pregnancy. That means they never cared about it. I can even bet they’re trying to get rid of it.”
My wolf’s voice became timid and fearful. “I can’t let anything happen to our pup.”
“Relax.” I rubbed my stomach, determination coursing through me. “I already let my mate and pup down in the past. I won’t anymore.”
I would rather die than let harm touch my baby’s hair.
“It seems there will be movies to watch in the coming months.”
“Hello, you haven’t taken your medicine.”
A voice suddenly spoke up.
She was a pretty girl dressed in a nurse’s attire — a uniform no one had worn in my presence before.
I had never seen her before.
Which could only mean one thing.
She h ad sneaked her way in.
Now, it’s getting interesting.
