Selene 

The next day, I went straight to the kitchen where I was assigned to and I met Ravenna already there. And she was standing. If there was something, it seemed like Ravenna was waiting for me. There was a calm look on her face and then she smiled on seeing me. 

I might have been about 20 minutes late and that was because I overslept and there was no Ravenna to come wake me up. On a normal day, she would have come to bang loudly on my door and then insult me for taking so much time. 

“You are late.” She said and she still looked calm. Too calm and it was unsettling. Ravenna was not a calm person. She had no atom of calmness on her. She was just a bitter person. She was never smiling and was always looking for the perfect opportunity to bully me. Something was not right with the way she was smiling and acting and I caught the way Mira kept glancing at me. She wanted to say something. 

“I overslept.” That was all I told her and I was just twenty minutes late. It was not as if I took an hour off or even two hours and why was she still standing? I had to go give Dain his breakfast and then clean the room. 

“You overslept,” Ravenna repeated and then she squared her gaze at me. Her jaw worked and she kept running her tongue over her lower lip. She looked like she had a lot to say and something was holding her back. But what? Nothing would ever hold Ravenna back and stop her from calling me a whore and a slave. There was absolutely nothing that would or could stop her. She was that demonic and wicked. So what happened?

“You have a duty to fulfill Selene. You are a slave and you are to wake up early and start working. But now you even have the guts to say you overslept. You have the guts to tell that to my face.” Where was I supposed to tell that to? The ceiling? I overslept and it was her fault. She kept overworking me. 

“You keep beating around the bush and I don't think you have anything tangible to say. Where is Alpha Dain’s breakfast? I need to take that to him.” I would serve Dain, clean his room, and sneak into my room. That was my plan. 

“Of course, you would be getting bolder. You are his slut.” She scoffed and then stared at me coldly. That was the Ravenna that I knew. The cold and heartless Ravenna who would never hold back while she called me names. She would do anything to insult me and remind me that I was a slave while she looked at me with nothing but hatred in her eyes. 

“And that is the same position your daughter was trying so hard to be in. That's how she lost her fingers and yet, she did not get Dain’s dick.” I said in a low voice and Ravenna’s eyes blazed with anger. She looked like a volcano that had just erupted and she looked like she would pounce on me. I took a step back. 

“You,” She hissed. “I will deal with you. Watch your back. Watch your fucking back Selene, I will make sure to deal with you and then watch as you get thrown out of this palace, or better still, I would prefer you dead.” She stated and then she was walking away. 

“What is her deal?” I came to stand behind Mira after Ravenna had walked away. She went to meet the other maids who were cooking and I was certain that it was to serve Alpha Dain’s breakfast. 

“Have you not heard the rumors?” Mira asked and my eyes narrowed at her in confusion. What rumors was she talking about? 

“What rumors are those?” I questioned curiously. 

“Alpha Dain called for her today.” My heart skipped a beat at the mention of Dain. I still had not forgotten about what happened the previous day. How I had a crash out and said that Ravenna was overworking me. Was that why he summoned her? 

“Why did he do that?” I felt a gaze on me and looking ahead, I caught Ravenna looking at me. Her eyes were on me while she was instructing the maids on what to do as they served everyone’s meal. 

“I don't know for sure but I'm certain that she was cautioned. She returned with a red mark around her neck.” I looked at Ravenna and I noticed that the mark was gone. She must have healed already. 

“Do you think that—” 

“Yes, Alpha Dain choked her. He reprimanded her for overworking you all the time. He almost killed her.” Mira whispered into my eyes and my mouth parted. He did that? Then why did he not kill her? He should have definitely killed Ravenna and then it would have turned into the happiest day in the palace. 

“What is your relationship with the Alpha?” Mira asked. 

“Nothing special.” I was his slut. His fucking cum bucket and the vessel for him to have a hybrid baby. One that he was never going to get by the way. 

“I see. He warned her to stay away from you and not overwork you.” I smiled. That was the reason why Ravenna was holding back so much. I knew that she had a lot to say when I walked in. Dain’s threat might have caused her to shut her mouth. 

That was so nice. I had no idea whyDain did it, but I was glad he did. Maybe it was to transfer aggression. He did not have sex with me and must have probably transferred his aggression to Ravenna who was one of the causes of tiring me out. Ravenna would finally leave me alone though her hatred for me had undoubtedly increased, not that I cared. I just wanted her to leave me alone. She could hate if she wanted.
