Chapter 10 Julian
Chapter 10 Julian
Selene
I sucked in a deep breath and I could feel Dain’s scrutinizing gaze on me. His gaze was hard as he waited for a reply from me. I sucked in another deep breath, feeling very nervous as I stood naked in front of him. I wanted to hide myself and disappear but I suddenly felt like I had lost the ability to speak.
Dain growled under his breath, in a low and scary way that made me flinch. I was delaying. That was the growl meant. He wanted quick answers and I was simply delaying him. “It was Ravenna. She whipped me earlier today.” I replied as quickly as I could and anger flashed in Dain’s eyes.
“Put on your clothes.” I did not waste another moment before I quickly pulled on my dress. What a relief! Did the marks disgust him? It would be such a good thing if he got disgusted by my marks. Because he changed his mind and did not do what he had planned once he saw the marks.
“Come with me.” My eyes narrowed and I bowed my head in obedience and then I followed Dain out of the room. Confused about what he wanted to do again. He could have just asked me to leave. I could not bear the thought of Dain touching me. I really got myself into a very tight spot.
We walked out of the room and we had almost gotten out of Dain’s chambers when I saw Ravenna running towards us. She looked to be in a hurry and if I was not mistaken, Dain must have asked her to come see him using his mind link. I knew that was something only he could do. Talking to others using a mind link.
“My lord.” Ravenna dropped to the floor once she came and it was so rare seeing Ravenna that scared. She was always so proud and her shoulders were held high all the time. Who would actually think that Ravenna would drop down on her knees in fear? It was so satisfying to watch.
“What gave you the right to touch her?” Everything happened so fast. One moment, Dain was standing so close to me and the next second, he was standing in front of Ravenna.
Everything happened so quickly and I watched as he grabbed her neck tightly and lifted her off the ground so effortlessly like she was nothing but a piece of paper. Ravenna coughed and struggled to breathe and if there was one thing that she did not dare, it was to try to struggle with Dain.
He was going to kill her and I did not fuckimg care. He could go ahead to strangle life out of her. She deserved it. “M..m…m..” She struggled to speak, but Dain’s hold on her neck was so tight and she was already turning pale as her legs dangled in the air. She was dying.
Dain finally released her and he threw her like trash to the ground. I felt satisfaction as I watched. He released her too early. He would have killed her. That was what Ravenna deserved. She was just so mean whereas she was nothing. And just a common maid like everyone else.
“I'm sorry—but the slave disrespected me. She woke up so late.” Ravenna coughed, wrapping her hands around her neck that had already turned red. “She is very lazy, rude, and wakes up very late. All I did was teach her a lesson.” She claimed as tears gathered in her eyes. As she looked at me, I gave her that ‘serves you right look.’
“You have no right to touch her,” Dain told Ravenna in a stern voice. His voice was hard and cold. “Selene is my possession and different from the other slaves.” I turned to look at him sharply. What did he just say? His what?
“If she needs to be punished, I will take care of that. If her skin needs to be scarred, I will take care of it. No one will kay their hands on Selene.” I was in shock as I stared at Dain. Unable to believe his words. I was actually hoping that I was getting it wrong, but he meant every word.
“If she makes a mistake, you report to me. Get out of my sight before I do something nasty to you.”
“Okay, my lord. I'm so sorry. Your humble servant is sorry.” Ravenna quickly stood up to her feet and she did not waste another moment before she ran away.
Dain looked at me after she was done. “You have been dismissed. Come here once those wounds heal.” He told me and just when I nodded, a guard walked in. He has his head held low as he bows before Dain.
“My lord, I've got news from the witches’ village that was burnt.” He reported and all the hairs on my body stood. It was my village.
“Lesve.” Dain dismissed me, but I did not just hurry away. I walked slowly and tried to listen and Dain spoke to the guard who still had his head low.
“Were there any survivors?”
“I suspect that there was. Julian was not found among the bodies. We have done an investigation and he's not there.” My heart jumped and began to race very fast at the mention of Julian. That was my stepfather. The one who tried to rape me. He was alive.
“Anything else?” Their voices turned distant as I walked away. And I suddenly got teary. I missed my mother so much. My twin sister. I missed my village and it was so sad that they all got taken away from me in one night.
I sucked in a sharp breath as I hastened my footsteps. I was going to cry once I got to my room. And Julian? Julian was alive?? Hell, I was going to find him and kill him once I was done with Dain. He did not deserve to live.
