Chapter 73 Chapter 73: Not Letting Go
LUCIEN
I shut the door to my car, putting my shades into the front of my shirt. “Alpha King” one of the pack members greeted as I stepped into the pack house.
I nodded at the man, climbing the stairs that led to the old man’s room. “You are here” He uttered as I entered into his room.
“How have you been?” I asked, my eyes taking in the way his hand seemed to shook on its own.
“Not good, I hope your brother and his son don’t kill with the problem they manage to rope themselves into all the time” He groaned out, his back popping loudly.
“I take it they managed to make the council elders approve Kieran taking the mantle from his father” I stated, my hands linking together.
“They managed to get that far because I went for a full body check up that day” My father let out, shaking his head.
It was just typical for my brother to do something like that; he was most likely sweet talked by Kieran.
“This wouldn’t happen if you had just taken over the pack like you were meant to” I turned to face him at that.
“Maybe I should have, but you know I couldn’t” I watched as a sad smile played on his face. “I heard Kieran challenged you to a duel” He let out.
“He did” I was going to make sure I humbled him at the duel. The audacity for him to try and take Ari away from me, I would teach him a lesson.
“When is it?” He asked. “In three days’, time” I informed him. Kieran would think himself wise, but what he didn’t know was I would always be two steps ahead of him.
“Make sure you don’t lose to him, you are getting old yourself” My father said to me, a glint in his eyes.
I hooted out a laugh, patting his hand. Beneath his joke, I could sense his worry. He had nothing to worry about, he thought me better than that.
“I brought you some treat” I presented to him the box of chocolate I had got on my way here. “You sure know what I like” He mumbled, collecting the box from me with excitement.
“By the way, do you have an idea of where Radiel might be?” I asked. His hands paused on the chocolate box he was about to open.
All the wolves Jerriq had sent out to the leads we got on him couldn’t get his exact location. He always managed to get away at last minute.
Almost as if someone had been feeding him information. “Why do you need to know where Radiel is?” He questioned, a worried look in his eyes.
If anybody would know where he was it would be my father. He connections in places most wolves were scared of approaching.
The Covert. They were a group of werewolves who kept tabs on any wolf consider to be a bigwig in a certain business or the other.
They could also eliminate anyone who they saw as a threat to the werewolf world. For some reason, they didn’t kill Radiel. They had simply felt him to go into banishment.
“There have been some series of attacks on the palace in California and the East” I disclosed, my hands curling up into fists on my thighs.
“Ari and I had been ambushed by rogues too. Both of the wolves that had been caught died of poison, almost as if they had ingested the poison which worked immediately, they tried to say anything” I added.
“I would see what I can find about it; do you have guards watching Ari?” He asked. That had been the first thing I did after she had been attacked while I was at California.
“Yes, I should get going” I stood to my feet. I couldn’t stay here for long, I didn’t know what I would do if I saw my brother or his son.
“Come again soon” he said just as I shut the door to his room behind me. “I hope you are getting ready for the duel, uncle” Kieran’s annoying voice buzzed out.
I descended down the stairs, ignoring him. My wolf snarled out, wanting to take control. If it he did, there was no guaranty he would leave him alive.
“If you are running away now, all what I am getting is that you already gave Ari ack to me” That made me stop.
“Get her name out of your mouth if you don’t want me to rip out your tongue” I growled out, turning around to face him.
Fear flashed in the depth of his eyes, but was covered up by a knowing gleam. “Whether you like it or not, she would come to me” He gloated, a smirk on his face.
I shoved him against the edge of the banister of the staircase “What did I warn you about, pup?” I gritted out, a forearm shoved against his neck.
“Unhand me this moment” He croaked out, his eyes bulging out of their sockets. “If you ever mention her name again, I would rip your mouth apart. Do you understand me?” I asked, pressing down harder.
He tapped on my forearm, his face turning red from lack of air. “I…won’t” He croaked out, coughing out when I released him.
I walked out of the pack house, anger rolling off me in waves. I picked out my phone from my pocket to call Ari.
“Hey, babe. I would come by your office to-’’
“Don’t bother” Her voice sounded cold. I have never heard her sound like this before.
“What is the problem? I am coming to your office right now” I declared entering into my car.
“I said don’t bother, I-I think we need a break” She mumbled out, making me pause.
“What are you saying Ari?”
“I need time to myself for a bit”
“No” I just got to have her; I wasn’t going to let her go.
