Chapter 166 CHAPTER 166
Chapter 166 CHAPTER 166
Alexa’s POV
I felt myself slipping out of control, and at the same time, an overpowering presence filled me. It was like I was grasping at straws, desperately trying to hold on to a thread that was slowly slipping through my fingers.
Something was inside me. Not just something, but someone, and that person had taken full charge.
Yet I knew her as though she were me. Perhaps she was me. Her name was Lucy.
My breathing steadied as something unfamiliar settled into my body. I could hear the faintest sounds around me, the shift of fabric, the creak of furniture, even the uneven rhythm of someone's heartbeat. Every scent in the room seemed sharper too, layered and distinct, as though my senses had been turned up beyond their usual limits.
I rose slowly, rolling my shoulders as I adjusted to the strange strength coursing through my limbs. My fingers flexed at my sides, not from fear, but from an instinct I didn't fully understand. My head tilted slightly as I scanned the room, taking in every person, every movement, every trace of scent.
Then my eyes settled on him.
Rodrick.
A strange calm spread across my face. The fear and uncertainty that had overwhelmed me moments ago seemed to belong to someone else.
“We meet again, Rodrick,” I said.
I didn't wait for him to respond before I charged at him.
My body moved before I could think, propelled by an instinct so fierce that it left no room for hesitation. I lunged across the room, my feet barely seeming to touch the ground. Rodrick only managed to escape by a hair's breadth, twisting away just as I reached him.
I stopped myself abruptly, my claws digging into the floor as I turned to face him again.
An anger that had been building for more than two decades boiled in my chest. It wasn't the fleeting rage of the moment. It was old—deeply rooted, preserved through years of pain and betrayal, and now given a body strong enough to act on it.
Rodrick had killed me.
The memory flashed through my mind with startling clarity. But before I died, I had promised him that I would be back.
My lips curled into a cold smile as I straightened, my gaze fixed on him. And yes, I was back.
I missed on my first attempt. Not that I planned to kill him. No, that was never the plan. The plan was to make him even uglier than I had already made him.
He backed into a safer corner, his eyes fixed on me as he prepared himself for another attack. His shoulders tensed, and his weight shifted slightly, ready to move in whichever direction I chose. I could hear the quickening rhythm of his heartbeat, and somehow, that sound only made the anger inside me burn hotter.
But I didn't attack again.
There was no need to rush.
“It doesn't have to be this way, Lucy,” he finally said.
I tilted my head, studying him. His voice carried an edge of desperation that I would have found amusing if I hadn't remembered everything he had done.
“You know it was you who betrayed me,” he continued. “You betrayed years of trust we built together, just for a fleeting moment of passion.”
A low chuckle escaped me.
“Trust?” I repeated, almost tasting the word on my tongue. I took a slow step toward him, watching him stiffen. “I was never yours, Rodrick.”
I let the silence linger between us before my lips curved into a cold, knowing smile.
“You had no right to claim me.”
“I had every right to claim you,” he said, anger surfacing in his voice.
I recognized that anger. It was the same anger that had once consumed him—the very anger that had led to the chaos that tore three packs apart. I could almost feel the echoes of those years in the room, as though the past had followed us here and was waiting for its final reckoning.
And somehow, I had managed to fulfill the destiny they had tried so desperately to hide me from.
I slowly twisted my fingers, watching him closely. Something within me responded to the movement, a quiet surge of power traveling beneath my skin. I could feel Lucy's presence settle deeper into me, no longer fighting for control. We were in complete agreement now.
“And that,” I said, my voice calm, “is why you will remain a hideous immortal forever, Rodrick.”
His expression changed.
“You will wake every year to find yourself more hideous than before,” I continued. “And with every passing year, you will lose another piece of what makes you feel mortal.”
I let my hand fall to my side.
“You wanted to possess what was never yours. Now you can spend eternity living with the consequences.”
Suddenly, he fell to his knees.
I hadn't expected that. I had imagined many things when I returned, but I hadn't expected to see a broken Rodrick—not after only a little over two decades of living under my curse. The man who had once stood before me with such arrogance was now trembling at my feet, his shoulders sagging beneath the weight of years he could no longer endure.
“Please, Lucy,” he begged. “I beg you, forgive me.”
I watched him in silence. Even from where I stood, I could hear the uneven rhythm of his breathing.
“I know I cannot take back what I've done to you,” he continued, his voice cracking, “but I've suffered for the last twenty-five years. This torture is worse than anything I've ever experienced. Please, let me go.”
He lifted his face toward me, desperation etched into every feature.
“Death is better than this.”
I crouched slightly, bringing myself closer to his level without taking my eyes off him. There was no satisfaction in his fear—only the cold certainty that he had finally understood the price of what he'd done.
“You crossed the line, Rodrick,” I said quietly, my voice carrying more weight than a shout ever could. “You crossed it when you killed me.”
I straightened again, looking down at him.
“And for that, you are irredeemable.”
I felt the shift again, and I was gone.
—
I opened my eyes slowly, my body feeling strangely weak. My limbs were heavy, and for a moment, I couldn't make sense of where I was. My mind felt foggy, as though I had woken from a deep sleep and been dropped into the middle of a dream.
I remembered walking into this room. That was all. Everything after that was a blank.
I blinked several times, trying to piece the missing moments together. My gaze wandered across the room, taking in the overturned furniture, the scattered objects, and the signs of destruction around me. The air felt heavy, charged with something I couldn't explain.
Then I looked ahead.
Alpha Rodrick was kneeling in front of me.
My breath caught. I stared at him, completely bewildered. He looked nothing like the powerful Alpha I remembered. There was something defeated about him, something that made the sight almost impossible to comprehend.
I glanced down at myself, then back at him.
How had we gotten here? What had happened while I was unconscious?
I could remember entering the room, but everything between then and now had vanished from my memory. And judging by the chaos surrounding us, I had a feeling I wasn't going to like the answer.
“What happened?” I asked.
But even as the words escaped my lips, I already knew the answer in my heart.
The strange gaps in my memory suddenly felt less like missing pieces and more like a door that had been deliberately closed. I could feel something waiting beneath my thoughts.
Lucy.
The name surfaced in my mind with startling clarity.
I was the reincarnation of Lucy, a moonsborn that had returned to seek revenge. I had become the vessel through which she had finally returned to settle her unfinished score.
