Chapter 131 Epilogue
Chapter 131 Epilogue
Vuk Kael Laskovic
Do you believe in love?
Not the kind sung about in careless taverns or whispered between foolish youths who think longing is the same thing as devotion. I mean the kind of love that roots itself deep into your bones, that claws into your ribs and refuses to leave, the kind that makes the world feel smaller and sharper because one person suddenly becomes the center of everything you are.
Like falling terribly in love with someone you can’t imagine a single second without them.
The feeling is like a flower blooming beneath the first rays of morning sunlight—slow, warm, inevitable. Gentle at first… and then overwhelming before you even realize it has taken hold.
Gods…
I breathed out slowly, my chest rising and falling with quiet ease as I stared at the beautiful woman I had been fortunate enough to call mine.
She stood at the center of the garden, her white hair catching the golden glow of the morning sun like strands of silver fire. The breeze moved softly around her, lifting the hem of her gown just enough to make her look like something not entirely mortal—something rare, something fragile, something dangerous in the most beautiful way.
Maureen.
My mate.
My Luna.
My weakness… and my strength.
“My love,” I called softly, stepping toward her, my voice carrying more weight than I intended. My hand rose instinctively, cupping her cheeks with careful reverence while she stared up at me, her white hair dancing faintly in the gentle breeze that rolled through the garden.
“Yes, Vuk,” she answered quietly, her voice warm, patient… steady in the way only she could be.
“You look dazzling… beautiful…” I murmured, my thumb brushing lightly against her cheekbone as my eyes traced every familiar detail of her face. “I can’t… I can’t wrap my head around how someone so breathtaking belongs to me.”
She smiled faintly, shaking her head once before lifting her finger and pressing it gently against my lips, silencing the rest of my stumbling confession.
“Vuk,” she whispered softly.
Her eyes softened, shining with something deeper than affection.
Something stronger.
“You are the most beautiful person I’ve seen,” she murmured, her voice lowering into something almost sacred. “My moonlight… my husband… you… gods, you have made me a star in your world.”
A quiet breath left my chest at her words.
“Only because you shine,” I replied gently, leaning closer until our foreheads brushed. “Only you… little moon.”
And in that moment—beneath the pale glow of drifting sunlight and the gentle whisper of chilled air—we gave into the pull that had always drawn us together.
I kissed her.
Slowly.
Deeply.
Not with desperation.
Not with urgency.
But with certainty.
With ownership.
With love carved into bone and soul.
Her fingers curled into my shirt as she leaned into the kiss, the cold breeze brushing past us while the world softened into silence around our bodies. The garden stood still, the trees unmoving, the air filled with nothing but warmth and quiet belonging.
My Luna.
My darkest obsession.
My moon.
And in that quiet moment, with her lips pressed against mine and her breath mingling with my own, words rose within me—
I rested my forehead against hers and spoke softly, my voice barely louder than the wind.
“If love were fire,
You would be the flame that never fades.
If love were night,
You would be the moon that guards my sky.
If love were war,
I would bleed gladly beneath your name.
And if love were death—
Then let me die in your arms,
Knowing I lived in your light.”
Her breath caught slightly at the last line.
Silence followed.
Soft.
Sacred.
Then suddenly—
She laughed.
Light.
Playful.
Before I could react, she slipped from my grasp and darted away across the garden, her gown flowing behind her like drifting snow.
“Maureen!” I called after her, stunned for half a second before breaking into a grin.
She turned once, glancing back at me over her shoulder with mischief dancing in her eyes.
“Catch me, Alpha!” she teased.
Oh, she had made a mistake.
A terrible mistake.
I moved instantly, chasing after her across the garden, laughter breaking from my chest as she tried—unsuccessfully—to outrun me.
She was fast.
But I was faster.
Within seconds, I caught her from behind, wrapping my arms tightly around her waist as she let out a surprised laugh.
“Got you,” I murmured against her ear, pulling her back against my chest.
She struggled weakly, laughing harder now.
“No fair!” she protested.
“Life isn’t fair,” I replied smugly before lifting her clean off the ground.
She gasped softly as her feet left the earth, clutching my shoulders as I carried her effortlessly toward the shaded area where our children rested.
The maids nearby noticed immediately, bowing respectfully before stepping away, giving us privacy without needing to be told.
Smart women.
Very smart.
I lowered Maureen carefully onto the blanket beside the babies before settling down next to her, my arm wrapping loosely around her shoulders as we both turned our attention to the tiny lives stretched before us.
Lauren lay peacefully on her back, her small fingers reaching lazily toward drifting petals falling from above. Lucian rolled stubbornly onto his side again, refusing to remain still for more than a moment. Adrian watched everything in quiet silence, his sharp little eyes studying the world like he already understood more than he should.
Maureen leaned gently against my side, her head resting lightly against my shoulder.
A quiet sigh left her lips.
“Vuk,” she whispered, voice thick with emotion. “They’re going to grow up knowing what real love looks like… because they’ll see it every single day in us.”
I swallowed past the sudden tightness in my throat and pressed a slow kiss to her forehead.
“They will,” I promised. “And they will never have to wonder if they are wanted. They will never have to fight for the kind of belonging we once did.”
She smiled, small and radiant, before turning her face back toward
our children.
No threats.
Just this.
Just us.
A family of five.
The Laskovic legacy.
Not built on fear.
Not built on blood.
But built on love… survival… and the unbreakable bond between moon and flame.
And as I watched our children shift beneath the sunlight, their tiny breaths rising and falling in quiet rhythm, one truth settled deep inside my chest with unshakable certainty—
The world would remember our name.
