Chapter 161: A simple nerd
Chapter 161: A simple nerd
Olivia
The sharp sound filled the room like an invisible current—subtle yet relentless. I watched Orlando and the other wolf assisting us closely. The wolf winced in pain, shutting his eyes and covering his ears. Orlando also reacted, though less intensely, tilting his head slightly as if feeling a distant discomfort. There was a change, a difference, and it was important.
"It works…" I murmured, turning off the high-pitched noise. "It affects pureblood wolves more. Orlando, you have human blood, which is why you feel it less. I can’t believe it!"
"It’s like a buzzing in my head, but it doesn’t incapacitate me," Orlando said, blinking rapidly. "Alana, are you okay?" he asked his daughter, who was taking notes.
"Yes… but not as bad," she replied, exhaling. "This could work against the rogues. This could work!" Despite the pain, the wolf stood, disoriented, while Alana’s excitement grew. My heart pounded. If this worked on a large scale, it could change the course of the battle. It could help Chris win this fight.
"Let’s take the sound outside," Orlando instructed with conviction.
"We need to test it immediately," Alana insisted, and I saw the people from Silver Enterprises rushing back and forth. We used drones equipped with speakers—we couldn’t deploy the sound across the entire city; it would be chaos. But outside… I knew it might affect alpha Samuel and the others, but we had an advantage.
"Christopher needs a chance. Joaquin is close; this could help him," Orlando said.
"But it won’t harm the human hunters," I whispered, worried. If my information was correct, it would affect the rogues more severely, but the hunters would remain unaffected.
"It’s something, Luna," Alana reassured me. Within minutes, the sound echoed outside. Inside the city, we were protected. We heard howls, pained growls, and saw the drone footage. Aaron’s voice came through the control room speakers, strained.
"The battle is chaos. The wolves are disoriented—the sound is wreaking havoc. By the goddess, it’s hellish!" he shrieked.
"Hold on, Aaron!" Alana shouted.
"Joaquin and Chris are fighting. This is decisive. Don’t stop!" the beta yelled between cries. It was helping. I knew it.
"Send more drones to expand the effect," I demanded. We monitored the footage for a moment—I was searching for Cassandra—when the city’s alarms suddenly blared.
"Attacks in the city!" someone shouted through the speakers. "A security breach has been detected!" Before I could react, the security doors locked down. I heard shouts—something was wrong. Orlando and Alana tensed.
"We need to get you out of here," Orlando said urgently. "Let’s head to the residences. This could be worse than we think." We evacuated the building, the sounds of screams and explosions echoing around us. By all the heavens, something was happening right here in the city. They hadn’t said it outright, but we were in danger. Someone from the enemy forces had to be inside—but how? As we crossed the hallway, an explosion thundered behind us, and Orlando cursed.
"What could it be?" I asked as we took cover.
"Could be human hunters infiltrators," he said through clenched teeth. "Good thing we evacuated everyone from here. The sound wouldn’t affect them—they might have entered disguised as city residents." When we reached the residences, we found a trail of blood. I paled.
"Mr. Daniel!" I cried, dropping to the ground. He was wounded, looking at us with concern.
"What happened?" Orlando asked.
"Humans… they’re attacking," he gasped. "They’ve entered the building. They’re everywhere. They came through the west emergency access."
"What can we do?" Alana asked her father.
"Stay with Daniel, see if there are more wounded, and contact the warriors to seal the west entrance," he ordered. Then, he grabbed my arm and led me down a corridor. Orlando pulled me aside and handed me a gun.
"Use it if you need it. Please, hide and stay alert, Luna. I’ll be back. This is a safe room; do not open the door, no matter what" he said, and I nodded. I took the gun and felt fear settle in my chest. I took refuge, but a noise in the deserted hallways made me tense. Then came the shouts, the gunfire—I feared the worst. Suddenly, the door swung open. I thought it was Orlando, but a wave of horror washed over me when I realized it was none other than Franco.
"I was just looking for you. Did you think you could escape me? You’re mine, Olivia," he sneered, grabbing my arm as I struggled.
"What the hell do you want? Haven’t you done enough damage?" I spat, remembering how he had supported the human hunters.
"You can’t be with another man. Don’t you get it? You’re just a simple, ordinary woman, a nerd! You’re nothing. The wolves have made you believe you’re important, but you’re nothing," he sneered. I stepped back, but he advanced.
"I was your first man. And now you’re fucking with that bastard—who’s probably dead by now. A wolf, of all things! You’re nothing but a whore!" Franco had entered with the human hunters. The city was under attack—they were already inside.
"Let me go!" I struggled, reaching for the gun, but he struck me on the head. I cried out, the weapon slipping from my hands as I fell to the floor. I crawled away, trying to put distance between us, but he laughed, watching me struggle. I didn’t know where Orlando or Alana were. Chris was far away. It was just him and me.
"The hunters have sided with that bitch, Caterina. They bowed to her," he spat. "But she’s dead. And soon, Joaquin will be, too. The hunters will take everything, starting with this city. It’s full of sick ones, it will be their end." He moved toward me, just as my hand found the gun Orlando had given me. I lifted it and fired. The bullet struck Franco’s leg.
"You damn bitch!" he roared. I bolted.
"Don’t run! I’ll find you anywhere!" I hid behind a pillar just as Orlando arrived.
"Watch out!" I screamed as Franco lunged at him. Orlando was strong, and they fought, his claws flashing as Franco fired at him again and again.
"No! Stop this, Franco!" I cried out in fear.
"Another damn wolf to add to my kill list. And now, I’ll take this bitch with me," Franco snarled, aiming his gun at Orlando, ready to fire. Without thinking, I aimed at Franco. My hands trembled, but this was life or death. I pulled the trigger. The shot hit Franco in the chest. I heard him shriek and watched him fall. Orlando crawled but was alive.
"Luna…I´m okay" the warrior murmured as I approached. Franco lay a few feet away, dying. I moved closer, seeing the fear in his eyes.
"A simple woman, a nerd, killed you. Now you won’t hurt anyone else," I whispered, watching as the life drained from him. I didn’t feel proud, but he had to be stopped. A moment later, Alana arrived, staggering, injured, looking at his father, at Franco. She shakes her head in horror.
"The city is contained. There were sick wolves, but they couldn’t infect us. But the battle outside… it’s hell."
