Chapter 114 And Love comes to All

Time passed and I adjusted to leading the company while my ex-husband began to build up his. He was doing good and although it was painful for me to stand way far in the shadows and see him get along with his family, I also didn't hate it.
That kid, Eli's family was a little reluctant about Grace but seeing how the Alma's were reentering the elite society they all started liking her more.
And that other boy, Asher, seemed to have gotten into trouble for something like setting a trap for a prominent family that caused them to lose billions. Asher played something with their son Romano who ended up falling for the trap and the whole family suffered. Although no proof was found against him, he's still free and happy. I've always thought that boy was witty, I'm sure he left no proof behind of his misdeed.
I sat on my rotating chair behind my desk and stared at the slice of cheesecake in front of me.
I'm turning 42 all alone. I stared at the sweet, it had a single candle on top of it and it's funny how the only person who remembered my birthday was my secretary.
Mike and I tried to spend days like these together... I kept staring at it but I couldn't bring myself to light it.
He had a lot of catching up to do. Many flaws that needed to be taken care of. A lot of wasted time and ruined things that he has to face alone.
Well, not alone...
My heart stung a little.
But at least one of us found happiness again... And it's right of him not to contact me. We went our separate ways and he has someone else in his life now. His own family.
I let out a sigh which was followed by a knock on the door.
"Miss," My secretary peeked in, "The new director is here, should I send him in?"
"Ah!" I straightened up, "Oh yea, he was coming today," I cleared my throat, "Yes, send him in," I stood up and grabbed the tea-plate the cheesecake was on and walked to the cabinet. I can't have a stranger seeing how pathetic I am.
I opened the cabinet to put the plate in. I'll eat it later, maybe during lunch or something.
With all the people divided between the main company and the sub-branch there was a big need for rehiring. The new director is the son of a major share-holder, he was working somewhere else before so I've never met him.
There was a knock on the door, "Excuse me," The man said as the door opened and I closed the cabinet.
"Come in!" I began to walk towards my chair again.
"Hi," The man entered the room, "I'm Logan, I'll be starting today."
I went ahead and grabbed the back of the chair to straighten it, "Yes," I pulled a professional smile, "Thank you for-" I raised my head to finally look at him, "Coming..."
A sharp zap of electricity coursed through my veins and my heart almost stopped beating. My breath got caught up in my throat and I couldn't take my eyes off of the man in front of me.
'MATE!!!'
My wolf screamed in my brain
'MATE!! MATE!!!'
Logan was staring at me with his eyes wide open as well and for a moment we just looked at each other, unsure what to do. My skin stood up and waves of shiver went down my spine.
I would never have thought that something like this would happen to me at this point in my life and I felt my knees go weak.

I started to fall, "Ah!" But since I was right next to my desk I slammed my hands on it to support myself.
Oh God...
I raised my head again to look at Logan but he wasn't there anymore.
"Are you alright?"
!?!?
I shot my head to the side. He was standing there with his hands reaching out to me. But seeing him so close was bad for my heart.
"Ah, yes," I sat down on the chair and rolled a few steps away, "I'm alright, thank you." I cleared my throat.
"Oh..." My actions depressed him, "That's good..." And there was silence again.
What am I supposed to do with this situation?
A fated mate?
At this age?
Out of nowhere? What is happening?
I licked my lips and let out a sigh.
I'm too old for this shit. I looked at Logan, I shouldn't let this linger on. I'm sure he's worried about this too. He's still young, he wouldn't want to be with someone older than him.
"Logan," I called his name and he perked up
"Yes!" The way his eyes lit up made me guilty even before I got the chance to say anything.
"Um," No, I can't falter. I shouldn't delay things like these, "I'm sure you felt it too," I kept my eyes on him and he nodded.
"I did!" His eyes were twinkling, "It's the matebond, isn't it!" His voice was full of excitement, "My wolf is screaming at me that you're my mate!" He stepped towards me.
"Yes," I looked away, "I'm sure you're disappointed, I mean why wouldn't you be? Your mate is a 42 year old woman," I paused for a moment, "I know it's nothing ideal, so if you want we can reject each other-" I turned to look at him and froze.
There was a look of horror on his face.
"Logan?" I stood up, "Are you okay?" I stepped towards him, "You look like you're about to cry..."
"You want to reject me?" He looked devastated, "Why?"
I was baffled at his words, "Well," I was a little confused here, "Look at me," I pointed at myself with both hands, "I'm ten years older than you! I'm sure you don't want me."
"And if I do?" He replied immediately, catching me off-guard, "If I want you, then what?" He took another step towards me, closing our distance.
I just blinked at him in confusion, "You want me...?" That was new... I was not expecting that. But his words made me feel so delighted.
"Why wouldn't I?" He asked, "I've been looking for my fated pair for years." He held my hands, startling me, but I liked his touch. It made my wolf relax and she cozied up to him, "You have no idea how happy I am that I finally found you!" He shook his head, "You couldn't even fathom it!" He looked into my eyes, "You're worried about your age? Age means nothing to me!"
"But," His words were making my heart pound, "Um, you might regret this..."
"Never," He replied, "Why would I regret it when I've been searching for you my whole life?!?!"
"The age difference doesn't bother you?" I asked.
"NO! Does it bother you?" He asked as he squeezed my hands in his warmly
"Well," I licked my lips, "I don't know... People will talk..." It doesn't really bother me that he's younger than me. I mean, that's like a bonus for me but...
"Oh! God damn..." He rolled his eyes, "Put every useless thing aside." He paused, "Okay, put aside the age, or think that I'm the same age as you, and forget about the people. Just think about me and tell me. Do you not want me?"
I stared at him. My wolf hummed in delight, telling me it was useless to fight it. I already knew what the matebond could do and how strong it was.
"I-" I was at a loss for words, "Um," Is he really okay with me? "None of the other things bother you?" I asked
"I just want you!" He made a bold declaration and my heart skipped a beat, "And I want your answer." I could see the sincerity in his eyes, "Please, tell me, forget about everything else and tell me, would you take this chance with me?"
I kept my eyes on him as I continued to feel the warmth of his hands.
Everyone who was one around me seemed to have found their path, they were moving on with their lives and settling down with their mates
And I may have pretended to be fine, but deep down that's what I wanted as well.
That's what I craved.
To be loved. To be adored by someone who wouldn't think of someone else or be stolen by someone else and that could only happen if I had a fated mate. But I knew I wouldn't be getting one since they're so rare and I was way past the age of finding a mate.
But now that this has happened. It's nothing short of a miracle. Plus, there's no denying that I do want him. Now that I've seen him, I don't think I'll ever feel this way with anyone else!
I should take the chance,

I nodded at him, "Yes,"
A bright grin spread across Logan's face, "Yes!!" He jumped in excitement, let my hands go, and wrapped them around me, only to pick me up and spin me around, "Yes!! OH! Yes! Finally!"
"Logan!" There was a sense of happiness swelling inside of me that I couldn't even describe. The moment I said yes I felt my wolf connect with his and that was a feeling I had never experienced before.
"Oh!' He stopped, "Sorry," He put me down, "Got a little too excited." He still kept me in his arms.
"It's alright," I replied, feeling happy. The kind of happiness I hadn't felt in a long long time, "But, are you really fine with me-"
"Please," He placed a finger on my lips, "We will never ever talk about the age thing, ever again." He looked into my eyes and I looked up at him. He was quite tall, "I want you, and nothing will ever change that."
My heart seemed to melt. But it wasn't a bad feeling. Rather, it felt comfortable
"Um~" A third voice startled both of us and we shot our heads towards the door.
"Hina?" My secretary was standing by the door.
"I didn't mean to intrude, but I just wanted to tell you the meeting scheduled for 12 pm got canceled."
"Oh..." I nodded, "I see," I cleared my throat and wanted to get out of Logan's arms but even when I tried, he didn't budge, "Logan!" I turned to him and whispered, "What are you doing?"
"We're mates," He pouted, "I want to keep holding you."
"OH?" Hina heard that.
"Hina," I looked at her, "Please don't get the wrong idea or anything."
"There's nothing wrong to get here." Logan spoke, "Rachel is my fated pair and we want to be together." He stated, baffling me. I was sort of pissed that he went ahead and announced that on his own, but more than anger, I felt a sense of comfort.
He meant it.
He didn't care about anything else. He just wanted me. And he already proved that.
And that alone brought a sense of peace to my mind.
"OH!!?" The news excited my secretary, "Really!?!?" She did a little jump with her clap, "That's wonderful news!" She looked at Logan, "Madam you got a gift from God! You won't be celebrating your birthday alone anymore."
"HINA!" She just down right exposed me.
"What?" Logan looked at me, "It's your birthday today?"
"Ah," I hesitated, "Well," I slowly turned to look at him, "Yes,"
His eyes were twinkling and I saw his imaginary tail wagging in excitement, "Well, then good thing that meeting got canceled."
"Hmm?" I knitted my eyebrows at him, "Why?"
"Because," He reached out to grab my hand, "We now have all the time to go out at a restaurant and get to know each other."
"I'll be taking my leave," Hina whispered and quietly went on her way.
"Uhhh,"
"Why?" He intertwined his fingers in mine, "You don't want to?" And I let him.
"No," I shook my head, "I would love to," I was just thinking about the slice of cake I hid in my cabinet.
"Great!" He began to pull me along, "Let's go then, "What's your favorite kind of food?" He already started with the 'getting to know each other thing'
"I like Italian."
"Really?" We walked out of the office, "I love Italian!" He let out a chuckle which in turn made me smile automatically, "This means we're really a match made in heaven."
The weather's nice, so the cake will be fine.
Besides, we can have it once we come back here.
I squeezed his hand, feeling a sense of coziness and comfort enveloping me.
I'll have an excuse to come back here with him and prolong our time together.
And I'll finally be able to light the candle
