Chapter 401: A Huge Surprise
Chapter 401: A Huge Surprise
Faith shook her head.
"We’re not ready to have the wedding yet. Grandpa isn’t in good health, and the ceremony would be too exhausting for him but he keeps insisting we go through with it."
Amelia said, "If your grandpa wants to see the wedding, then let’s make it happen for him—just make sure he doesn’t overexert himself with all the preparations."
"Then I’ll go back and discuss it with Byron." While they were talking, Samuel returned.
Hereturned with more good news. "Mom and Dad are back. I let them know we’re at the hospital. They wanted to rush over, but I told them to wait at home instead."
Amelia nodded. "Don’t make them go through all that. We’re heading back anyway."
"Okay."
With the report in hand, the three of them headed home, though, in reality, Amelia was the only one rushing.
Ever since the day she first announced her pregnancy, the Richardson family had been calling every day but not once did they mention visiting Thornfield.
She always felt a bit uneasy about it.
She wasn’t being dramatic, expecting everyone to travel such a long way just because she was pregnant. It was simply unlike the RichardsonRichardson family's usual way of doing things.
Whenever it was about her, they never hesitated to show up.
But not this time.
Naturally, she found herself worrying that something might have happened at home.
She hesitated to ask, worried that if they made the long trip to see her, it might interfere with their other important matters.
Samuel and Faith had already heard the news but were deliberately keeping it from Amelia, so they weren’t in a hurry to tell her.
By now, the family van had become Amelia’s regular ride, and with Jeremy driving steadily, they weren’t going very fast.
It took over an hour for the car to reach the villa complex. When Amelia got out and hurried inside, however, the Richardson family wasn’t there.
From the side, Faith said, "Maybe they got stuck in traffic coming from the airport. Let’s wait a little and here, have some water."
Samuel followed a step behind her, and seeing her so anxious, he couldn’t bear to let her worry.
Ignoring Faith’s warning glance, he took Amelia’s hand. "They’re not here. Come with me."
Puzzled, Amelia followed Samuel as he led her into the courtyard next door.
As he reached for the villa’s doorbell, Amelia couldn’t resist asking, "Why are we at the neighbor’s?"
Before Samuel could answer, the door opened and it was Grant. Amelia’s eyes widened in surprise.
Grant’s eyes widened in surprise as well. "How did you know we’d be here?" Then, realization dawning, he turned to Samuel.
"You told her?"
Samuel shrugged. "She was really anxious, so I brought herhere. Pregnant women shouldn’t have to worry like that."
Hearing that line about "pregnant women shouldn’t have to worry," Grant forgot his surprise and guided her inside.
"Come on, Amelia, we have a surprise for you!"
She followed Grant through thedoorway, still puzzled, and saw the whole family gathered neatly in the living room.
Natalie and Quinton were arranging tables and chairs, while the others blew up balloons. When they saw her enter, everyone looked startled.
Finally, Natalie was the first to recover. She walked over with a smile. "We bought the house next door! We wanted to surprise you,but you came by early. See? We haven’t even finished decorating yet!"
She added that they were moving to Thornfield. Amelia felt a mix of surprise and worry.
"You're all coming here? What about the company?"
Natalie asked, glancing at Quinton.
"Let your dad tell you! You two have a chat alone. We'll keep decorating here. Even though the surprise is ruined, we still need to celebrate the baby’s arrival."
Amelia nodded.
She glanced at Samuel, and , and noticing his calm expression, she realized it wasn’t bad news.
She let out a small sigh of relief and followed Quinton to the first-floor lounge.
The layout was similar to Goldenvale’s, with the lounge in the same spot. After she sat down, Quinton poured her a glass of warm water.
Quinton poured her a glass of warm water after she sat down. "You’re pregnant, so no coffee for you. Make sure you’re careful about what you eat and drink."
Amelia nodded, her impatience showing. "What did Mom want to tell me?"
"In the past two weeks, with Samuel’s help, our company has finished moving from Goldenvale to Thornfield."
Amelia's eyes widened.
"You're moving the company to Thornfield?"
Quinton corrected her.it’s already moved. The main operations are all relocated. Mason just has a few loose ends to handle, and in at most two weeks, everything will be fully settled."
Amelia asked, "Is it because of me?"
"You're one reason."
Quinton explained that Thornfield's policies were a better fit for the Richardson Group than Goldenvale’s after all, it was the capital, with far more opportunities.
There was another important reason.
"I worked my way up from a family business, which means the company has plenty of relatives who do no work and just enjoy the benefits—including Sharon’s parents."
"I used to think it was fine to support these people, but later I realized I had to cut ties with them."
"But to cut ties, you need an excuse. Otherwise, after being the good guy for half your life, you end up being the villain in the end."
"So moving the company to Thornfield is the perfect excuse."
" he said. "Plus, this way, our family won’t have to be apart all the time."
"A family can only look after each other when they’re together." Amelia listened closely, her eyes gradually reddening with emotion.
Although Quinton had given many reasons, she knew that she was the biggest reason why Quinton and the others were coming to Thornfield to start over.
"Thank you, Dad."
"Come on, we're family. What's there to thank?"
Quinton smiled, then said, "If you feel any physical discomfort, come ask your mom anytime. She has plenty of experience."
Amelia couldn't help but laugh.
"I'll come over every day. Just don't get mad at me for stealing Mom away again."
"You're at a critical time right now, so I'll let you have her!"
Amelia laughed even harder.
Her worries from the past few days vanished in this moment, leaving only joy.
This way, she didn't have to worry about Stanley being alone, or about Quinton and Natalie missing her.
"So everyone knew except me?"
"We wanted to surprise you."
"Well, I still need to settle accounts with Samuel! How dare he keep this from me!"
She pretended to be angry, just as Samuel came in with cut watermelon.
Hearing this, he set down the watermelon and raised his hands in surrender.
"I'm at my wife's mercy."
Amelia rolled her eyes at him, without a trace of real anger.
At noon, Stanley came over too.
He seemed to have known all along. Not at all surprised, he sat down and started eating lunch as if he were entering his own home. He seemed quite used to being with the Richardson family now.
The meal was warm and harmonious.
But as Amelia smiled, she felt like crying.
People can feel like crying even at their happiest moments.
But she held it in.
After lunch, Amelia went back to her side to take a nap.
Samuel stayed by her side.
"You're not mad at me for keeping it from you, are you?"
"I was just saying that."
"I knew it," Samuel said, then added, "Actually, there's one more thing I've been keeping from you."
