Chapter 278 Reporters Everywhere
That half-smiling look in his eyes left Jeremy confused.
But he quickly caught on and couldn't help tapping himself on the head.
"Ms. Richardson is a doctor, she won't be scared of these things. I must have lost my mind."
Samuel nodded slightly and said, "Even if she's not scared, there's no need to tell her about this. No point dirtying her ears with it."
"Yes."
Whether Evelyn died or not afterward, Samuel didn't know and didn't care.
In any case, Evelyn as a person disappeared.
No one ever heard the name Evelyn mentioned again.
Plus, Evelyn had always been quite aloof and didn't have many friends, so gradually, many people forgot she ever existed.
But that's all a story for later.
......
Early the next morning, Amelia saw Byron off.
Today Byron was going to visit The Monroe Villa.
Faith was already waiting at The Monroe Villa.
Going with him was Jeremy.
After giving Byron a few reminders, Amelia said to Jeremy, "Don't worry about things here. I've got Samuel covered."
"Alright. Call me right away if anything comes up."
Amelia nodded and watched them drive off.
The trunk was packed full of gifts. Byron now had a new identity - Vice President of Aurevia Studio.
No matter how you looked at it, the Monroe family wouldn't turn Byron away.
"Mom, I need to go out in a bit too," Amelia said to Natalie. "Something might happen today, so tell Dad that you should both stay home. Wait until I get back."
"Okay."
Natalie nodded seriously. "I'll keep an eye on them."
Amelia smiled and hugged Natalie, then headed to the door.
Samuel's car had just arrived.
He got out and walked toward Amelia.
Amelia went up to meet him, surprised. "I thought we were meeting at the hospital?"
"There are more and more reporters at the hospital. I was worried you'd get stuck dealing with them." He explained, then nodded to Natalie in greeting. "Mrs. Richardson."
"Go on now, business comes first."
"Alright."
Samuel responded and got in the car with Amelia.
York was driving.
He grinned, showing a mouthful of white teeth.
"Ms. Richardson, good morning."
"Good morning." She greeted him back, then asked, "Are there really a lot of people at the hospital?"
Samuel made a sound of agreement and said, "Zachary's people can't reach him and they're going crazy. They've bought several trending topics, just short of writing outright that I've killed him."
Amelia smiled.
"Well, his subordinates have really done us a huge favor then."
"You can say that again."
Soon the three of them arrived at the hospital.
Outside the hospital, there was indeed a large group of reporters gathered.
Seeing them get out of the car, they all started shouting.
"Mr. Crawford, can you give us an interview?"
"Mr. Crawford, there are rumors that you've illegally imprisoned Zachary. Is this true?"
"Ms. Richardson, there are reports that you're in charge of Stanley's surgery. How is Stanley doing now?"
"Is Stanley still alive?"
"Why have all the doctors responsible for Stanley's surgery disappeared?"
"Did you intentionally kill Stanley during the surgery?"
The reporters chattered away, practically wanting to shove their microphones in their faces.
But soon more and more security personnel appeared, forcibly holding back the reporters and clearing a path for Amelia and Samuel.
Though it took some effort, but theystill managed to enter the hospital smoothly.
"There are even more people than I imagined." Amelia let out a breath and said, "Good thing you stationed so many people here, otherwise we really would have been blocked."
Samuel said, "These people came to the hospital a couple days ago too, but they didn't dare be so blatant. For them to act like this today, someone must have paid them off."
"They're getting desperate."
"Yes. They're getting desperate."
Among Zachary's subordinates, there were quite a few smart people.
Once they started getting desperate, they were playing right into Samuel's hands.
This was very beneficial to Samuel's plan.
Samuel and Amelia exchanged a smile.
York was simple-minded and had no idea what the two were talking about or smiling about.
He scratched his head, just about to ask, when a doctor hurried over.
"Mr. Crawford, Stanley is awake."
The two exchanged a glance and immediately headed to the ICU.
The ICU was a sterile ward, so they had to change into isolation gowns.
Last time Jeremy had been delayed by changing clothes, and by the time he got in, Stanley had fallen back asleep.
Fortunately, this time Stanley stayed awake longer.
When they entered, he was looking around with a confused expression.
"Dad."
Samuel spoke first.
Stanley quickly looked over.
When he saw Samuel, he didn't have much of a reaction.
But when his gaze fell on Amelia beside Samuel, his brows furrowed sharply.
He hadn't forgotten that scene during the surgery when he was "awakened" and Amelia threatened him to cooperate.
Thinking back on it now, his scalp still tingled.
He was used to being respected. That feeling of having his life gripped in Amelia's hands made him very uncomfortable.
These past couple days, he had woken up a few times.
Although he realized his successful surgery was thanks to Amelia, he was still annoyed.
So when he saw Amelia, his brows furrowed sharply.
If he wasn't on a ventilator, he probably would have cursed her out.
But Amelia's face carried a smile.
Though she wore a mask, her eyes were curved in a way that clearly showed she was smiling.
Stanley was even more annoyed.
She dared to smile!
Amelia acted as if she couldn't read Stanley's expression and spoke gently, "Looks like you're recovering well. In another two days, you won't be falling asleep anymore, and you'll live a long life."
Stanley's eyelashes trembled.
Undeniably, these words touched Stanley's heart.
His anger slowly dissipated somewhat.
Though the process wasn't pleasant, the result was good.
His surgery had been difficult - many renowned brain surgeons in Phoenicia hadn't dared take it on, yet Amelia had done it right away, and successfully too.
He could feel his strength slowly returning.
However, his personality wouldn't allow him to forgive Amelia so easily.
Stanley looked away to face Samuel instead.
But Samuel immediately said, "Why are you looking at me? If you want to thank her, blink three times."
Stanley's eyes suddenly widened, wishing he could raise his hand and slap Samuel.
Samuel pursed his lips and said, "If it weren't for Amelia, you'd be dead within half a year. Just because she said some unpleasant things to you on the operating table, you're going to hold a grudge?"
Stanley closed his eyes.
Not because he'd fallen asleep, but because he didn't want to look at Samuel.
But while he could close his eyes, he couldn't shut his ears.
Samuel's voice still forcefully drilled into his ears.
"During that surgery, you had to be forcibly awakened halfway through to cooperate with her. If you hadn't cooperated then, you would have died on the operating table. Tell me, shouldn't she have scared you?"
Stanley slowly opened his eyes.
He hadn't known this.
Samuel continued, "Amelia and I plan to register our marriage after the holidays end. We'll wait until the weather warms up to have the wedding. You'll have plenty of time to recover, and after you do, I hope you can give us your blessing. Of course, if you can't sincerely bless us, that's fine too, but you must attend the wedding."
He added, "I'm not asking for your opinion, I'm informing you."
Stanley's brows furrowed deeply.
It's just that he couldn't speak right now!
Otherwise he would definitely curse Samuel out!
"Rest well. We're leaving. Thanks to you, there's a pile of mess outside to deal with."
Stanley glanced at him, seeming to ask what had happened outside.
Samuel snorted coldly and said, "Who else but that good son of yours? He thinks I'm trying to kill you, so he's deliberately stirring up his people to spread rumors about me online."
He added, "He's not really worried about you, he's worried about himself. He wants to pin a crime on me so The Crawford Group will go back to him."
Stanley shook his head gently.
The meaning was obvious: Zachary would never do such a thing.
He was a good boy.
Not like Samuel.
Though Zachary wasn't as smart, he was filial.
While Samuel only made him half-dead with anger.
From a personal standpoint, between Zachary and Samuel, he preferred Zachary.
But he also knew that Samuel was more suitable to be the one in power at The Crawford Group.
Not only because of his legitimate bloodline, but also because his methods and boldness far exceeded Zachary's.
And Zachary had been gentle with people since childhood. When he told Zachary to go abroad, Zachary obediently went without ever throwing a tantrum.
How could such a person do the things Samuel was describing?
It must be a misunderstanding.
Samuel read his expression, laughed coldly, and said, "Whether what I'm saying is true or not, you'll know soon enough."
With that, he pulled Amelia away.
Soon doctors came in to examine Stanley.
He could already do some simple movements.
Like gripping and lifting both feet.
But his conscious time didn't last long - less than two hours later, he fell asleep again.
He was too weak.
......
Outside the ward.
After hearing what the doctors said, Samuel nodded slightly and watched them return to their office before asking Amelia, "How can we make sure Dad is awake when the plan is carried out?"
Amelia patted her medical bag.
"Don't worry about that, I've got it covered. I developed a drug before that makes people appear to be unconscious, but their mind stays clear. They can hear sounds around them and think."
She added, "I already tested this drug when treating Anthony, and it worked wonderfully without harming the body."
Samuel asked in surprise, "Was that back in Goldenvale?"
"Exactly. That's when I let Anthony see the true face of his most beloved Scarlett."
Samuel breathed a sigh of relief.
"That makes everything foolproof."
Amelia nodded and opened her phone.
Hidden cameras had been placed in Zachary's hotel room.
She could see Zachary pacing back and forth in the room, looking very anxious.
Amelia had "agreed" with him yesterday to take him out today.
But it was almost noon and Amelia still hadn't shown up, so of course he was anxious.
"Let him wait a bit longer. The more anxious he gets, the easier it is to lose his cool," Amelia said.
Samuel nodded.
Soon it was approaching evening.
