Chapter 191 The Plan Goes Wrong
Watching Isaac pick up the dagger, Amelia knew he had completely fallen into the trap.
The plan had reached its final step.
Her hands clenched slightly, ready to fight back at any moment.
But the expected scene of Isaac charging at her with the knife didn't happen. Instead, Isaac turned his head and ran toward Maeve with the knife.
Amelia was shocked and rushed after him—
But it was too late.
No matter how fast she was, Isaac was just too close to Maeve.
"Watch out!"
Amelia shouted. Maeve screamed too.
Doris instinctively grabbed her daughter's hand, but the dagger still plunged into Maeve's body.
"Help!"
"Hold him down!"
"Protect Mr. Sullivan!"
The room descended into chaos.
Panicked servants blocked Amelia. Over there, Isaac was about to strike a second time. Without thinking, Amelia shoved aside the servants blocking her way, jumped onto the coffee table, and practically flew through the air, tackling Isaac to the ground.
"Let go of me! I'm going to kill her!!"
Isaac's eyes were bloodshot with rage, but with Amelia on top of him, when he tried to get up, the servants swarmed over and pinned him down with their bodies.
A servant kicked the knife out of his hand, and Amelia was helped to her feet.
The police officers who had been waiting outside rushed in and restrained Isaac.
"No, no, no! Maeve!"
Doris held Maeve, who had collapsed on the floor covered in blood, crying in anguish.
"Maeve! My Maeve!"
Bobby looked at the blood all over the floor, his eyes filled with fury.
"Bastard! I'll kill you!"
He rushed over, picked up the knife from the floor, and charged toward Isaac.
But the police quickly stopped him.
"Mr. Sullivan, calm down!"
"Calm down?! How can I calm down!"
Just as the officer was about to speak, Amelia had already reached Maeve's side.
She quickly checked Maeve's injuries and felt slightly relieved.
"Maeve wasn't hit in any vital spots. Get a car ready, I'll operate on her!" Amelia said loudly.
"Bobby! Listen to Ms. Richardson!" Doris cried.
Bobby finally dropped the knife and went to prepare the car.
Roman, hearing the commotion, came downstairs.
Seeing the scene, he trembled all over and nearly fainted.
"Ms. Richardson, you must save my granddaughter!" he said, his face pale.
Amelia nodded.
"I will."
Soon, Maeve was carried to the car, with Bobby driving himself.
Police cars led the way, clearing the route.
Amelia pressed hard on Maeve's wound, telling her not to fall asleep.
"Don't sleep. Hold on until we get to the hospital, and I promise you'll be fine. You've seen my medical skills."
Maeve tried to speak, but blood came out of her mouth.
"Don't talk, you don't need to talk. Just trust me. Don't sleep."
Maeve blinked.
But she felt so cold and soon started feeling drowsy again.
Amelia kept calling out to her.
Maeve felt like she was having a very long dream.
In the dream, she married Isaac.
At first, they got along well as a couple, until she got pregnant with Isaac's child and Piper appeared.
Piper did everything she could to torment her, and Isaac's attitude toward her changed completely.
Time passed quickly in the dream. She aged rapidly while Isaac remained young.
He hooked up with other women.
Maeve scolded him, and he slapped her across the face.
Maeve suddenly opened her eyes.
She saw a white ceiling and smelled disinfectant in the air.
"You're awake?"
A familiar voice spoke.
Maeve turned her head and saw Amelia.
Her voice was hoarse. "I'm still alive?"
Amelia smiled.
"Of course you're alive. You already know I'm that famous Miracle Physician from Thornfield, right?"
Maeve tried to sit up, but pain shot through her chest, forcing her to lie back down.
"Don't move around. In your condition, you won't be able to get out of bed for a week."
Maeve nodded and asked, "Where are my parents?"
"They just left. They watched over you for two days and two nights. I just convinced them to go home. Should I call them back?"
Maeve said no, then asked about Isaac.
Amelia said, "He attempted murder. He's still at the police station. I got him a lawyer. He'll end up in a mental hospital and never get out."
This was what the two of them had planned from the start.
Prison would be too good for Isaac.
Since Maeve didn't die, if Isaac behaved well, he'd eventually be released.
But making him a madman... whether he could get out would be up to Amelia.
Piper had turned herself in, and Amelia was her only legal relative. She had the right to decide when he could be released.
So, having Isaac stay with a bunch of crazy people was a better "ending."
"Our plan is complete." Maeve smiled.
"But you almost died..."
Maeve's injury was very close to her heart. It took a lot of effort to save her.
"But I'm awake now." Maeve said.
Amelia looked at her deeply and said, "I'm sorry. I calculated everything, but I didn't expect that the person he wanted to kill most wasn't me, but you..."
According to her original guess, Isaac would charge at her.
She was fully capable of protecting herself. Isaac couldn't hurt her.
But even though she had hinted to Isaac that she was the one who ruined his face, the first person Isaac chose to kill was Maeve.
"I promised you I wouldn't let you be in danger, but still..."
"You're not a fortune teller. How could you predict everything? This ending is already very good."
As for why the first person Isaac wanted to kill was her, it didn't matter anymore.
She didn't want to try to figure out Isaac's psychology anymore.
Amelia had thought a lot, but just nodded.
"I had a dream..." Maeve told her about her dream.
Amelia listened quietly, then said, "That dream will never come true."
"Yes, that's so good..."
If it weren't for Amelia, she really might have married Isaac.
And the things in the dream would have happened.
Amelia had saved her life.
Even though she got hurt and almost died, she pulled through in the end.
So this ending really was the best possible ending.
"By the way," Maeve asked, "you told me that day that everyone in Isaac's village was a human trafficker... Piper turned herself in, so what about them..."
"This morning, a large police force went to the village. They've probably all been arrested by now."
Maeve smiled. "That's wonderful."
Maeve soon fell asleep again.
She was too weak and needed a good rest.
Amelia stayed by her side until the Sullivan family came to take over.
By the time she got home, it was past eight in the evening.
Samuel called her then, telling her that everyone involved in human trafficking had been arrested.
What she had asked Samuel to do was to personally work with the police after Piper turned herself in and have them arrest the people in the village.
Not only did Samuel do that, but he also went there himself.
With Samuel's people and the police working together, not a single person escaped.
"Thank you," Amelia said.
"Didn't we say we don't say thank you to each other?"
"I'm thanking you on behalf of my younger self."
That place was the source of her childhood nightmares.
If it weren't for that village, she would probably just be the Richardson family's daughter.
No other identity, no heavy responsibilities to bear.
She could be with whoever she wanted, without having to think so much.
Samuel, on the other end, said, "If it's thanks from your younger self, then I accept."
Amelia heard a turn signal on his end and asked, "You're not back yet?"
"Just getting off the highway."
Amelia calculated in her mind and said, "Do you want to stop by my place?"
From the highway exit to Rosevale Manor, you just needed to take a short detour on the service road to pass by.
Samuel immediately said, "Of course I'll come. I'd come even if it weren't on the way!"
Amelia said, "Then I'll wait for you."
"Don't come out early to wait. Wait until I call you before coming out. It's cold in the autumn evenings, so don't catch a cold."
A warm feeling flowed through Amelia's heart.
"Okay."
After hanging up, Amelia went to her nightstand and pulled out the bottom drawer.
Inside were two gift boxes.
Amelia opened one of them.
Inside was a jewelry set, gleaming under the light.
After the incident at the stables, she had promised to buy Samuel a gift. Before Isaac's incident, she had gone to a jewelry store and had a man's brooch custom-made for Samuel.
Yesterday, the jewelry store called asking if she wanted it delivered. Worried about the quality, she went to pick it up herself.
The clerk gave her two gift boxes.
The clerk told her that someone named Felix had ordered one over a month ago at the store.
Since they couldn't reach him, and the address was the same as the one Amelia had given, they asked her to take it back with her.
As soon as she opened it, Amelia knew who Felix intended to give this jewelry set to.
Because her name was engraved on the bracelet.
Amelia remembered the time when she, Felix, and Grant went shopping together.
Felix had disappeared for a while, then went missing for two days. It turned out he'd been taken to the Combat Arts Hall.
So that day, he had gone to have this jewelry set custom-made for her, which was why the Combat Arts Hall people mistakenly thought he had stolen their secret manual and captured him.
Her eyes became slightly red.
She pressed her fingertips against them, collected her emotions, and called Byron.
She got straight to the point: "Look into a custom jewelry store called Celestine Jewels, and have someone secretly watch it."
"Is there something wrong with this store?"
"It's a shop run by the Combat Arts Hall."
"Yes, I'll send someone right away."
After hanging up, Amelia's mood was still complicated.
Thinking about it carefully, although Felix was foolish and annoying, he had never actually done anything to hurt her.
She wondered how he was adapting to the island.
But she never dwelt on one emotion for too long. She quickly started thinking about the Combat Arts Hall again.
