Chapter 155 Strange Illness
Amelia seemed to pay no attention to Uma the whole time. She just brought her along as Charles guided them upstairs.
There was a room upstairs specifically for receiving important guests.
Uma had been to Spring Renewal Clinic before, but this was her first time entering this room.
As soon as they entered, Charles's eyes fell on Uma, then looked at Amelia.
Amelia smiled and said, "This is Uma, my mother's most trusted servant. She's one of us."
Uma's expression slowly changed.
Charles and Amelia both acted as if they hadn't noticed the change in Uma's expression.
"I'll make coffee. You still prefer black coffee, right?" Charles asked.
Amelia nodded, and only then did Charles feel at ease making the coffee.
Amelia chose a chair and sat down.
From this angle, she could see the view outside the window.
Amelia's expression was particularly calm.
Soon, Charles had a cup of coffee ready, but instead of placing it on the coffee table beside Amelia, he held the cup with both hands.
"Master, please have your coffee."
Uma's eyes suddenly widened.
Charles actually called Ms. Richardson "Master"?
Amelia smiled and nodded, taking the cup of coffee and taking a sip.
"Your coffee still suits my taste the best. Sit down."
Only then did Charles stand up and take a seat.
Amelia said, "I came today because my mother's medicine is running out. I need to adjust the prescription and start the second treatment phase. Go get me paper and pen."
"Yes." Charles respectfully brought over paper and pen.
Amelia quickly wrote out a new prescription on the paper.
Charles took it and was amazed: "The adjustment of these drug combinations is simply brilliant. I never thought of the synergistic effects between these medicines. I'm ashamed of myself as a student."
Amelia said, "Studying medicine requires talent. Although you don't have enough talent, at least you're diligent enough. Hard work can make up for a lack of talent. Keep learning slowly, and one day you'll be able to handle things on your own."
Uma's expression became even more shocked, her mouth almost unable to close.
Charles, who had such a big reputation, was not only Ms. Richardson's student, but also hadn't fully become an independent doctor.
How superb must Ms. Richardson's medical skills be?
Uma's mind was in chaos.
She only knew that on the day Ms. Richardson came home, she had revived Natalie, who had fainted from anger.
But she didn't take it too seriously.
Because Natalie's body was just weak, she didn't have any serious illness. Anyone with a little first-aid knowledge might have been able to wake Natalie up.
Moreover, although Amelia had been making Natalie drink Chinese medicine, Natalie's recovery speed wasn't very fast either.
After more than a month, she had only recovered a little energy and spirit, but still got tired easily.
So, she didn't really believe Amelia's medical skills were that good.
Of course, she also didn't know that Amelia had been treating Liam's leg.
Because this was a secret, only Natalie, Liam, and Grant knew about it.
They hadn't even told Mason and the others.
Naturally, Uma didn't know either.
But seeing Charles's attitude today, she realized she had underestimated Amelia.
However, the two of them still paid no attention to Uma.
After Charles respectfully said "yes," he asked, "Should I prepare the medicine for Natalie now?"
"No rush, get the medicine when I'm about to leave."
"Yes."
"By the way, you did very well with that matter last time. What reward do you want?"
She was talking about exposing Yasmin's fake pregnancy.
Amelia had guessed that Steven would only agree to meet Yasmin if she used a fake pregnancy as an excuse.
So she had arranged for Charles to wait at the coffee shop in advance.
And indeed, that's what happened.
Of course, if she had guessed wrong, it wouldn't have mattered. Her main goal was to make Kyle see Yasmin's true face.
As long as the two of them met and said what they said, it would definitely wake Kyle up.
Fortunately, everything developed exactly as she had expected.
Charles said, "Your willingness to take me as your student is already the best reward. How could I ask for anything more? It's just... I recently encountered a difficult case and really don't know where to start."
Amelia took a sip of coffee and asked, "Tell me about it."
Charles began to describe the patient's symptoms.
"This condition is very strange. He went to several major hospitals, but they couldn't help, so he came to me."
"This patient has no problems with his diet or daily life. He's mentally clear and has no uncomfortable feelings."
"But the problem is, both sides of his chest make sounds like a frog croaking. If you press on it with your hand, the sound disappears. If you don't press on it, it keeps making frog sounds..."
Amelia nodded slightly: "Has your patient had a CT scan at the hospital?"
"Yes, no growths, everything normal."
Amelia was silent for a moment, then suddenly said, "Is the patient here now?"
"As it happens, he's downstairs."
"Bring him up, let me see."
"Yes."
Charles hurried downstairs.
Soon, he brought up a thin but energetic middle-aged man.
And indeed, as Charles had said, both sides of his chest were making frog sounds.
The sound wasn't loud, but it was particularly clear in the quiet room.
Uma was an ordinary person and was extremely surprised to see this symptom.
Amelia remained calm and asked the middle-aged man when these symptoms had started.
The man quickly told his story.
"That day I was weeding for my employer when suddenly a toad jumped out and startled me. After that, I've been like this. Tell me, am I possessed? Should I go to the countryside and find someone to get rid of the evil spirit?"
Amelia smiled: "Let me try first. If I can't cure you, it won't be too late for you to get rid of evil spirits then."
The man agreed.
Amelia then had the man lie flat and performed a physical examination and pulse diagnosis.
After the examination, she was completely certain.
She had Charles bring a set of gold needles and perform acupuncture on the man.
Then she wrote out a prescription.
Charles looked at it and asked, "Is this a Hexaplex formula?"
"Yes, go prepare this medicine and have him drink it."
"Okay."
Charles rushed downstairs to prepare the medicine.
There were professional medicine-brewing tools here. In less than half an hour, the medicine was ready.
The man drank it, and in less than two minutes, he suddenly felt severe pain.
"I need to use the bathroom."
"Go ahead."
The man hurried to the bathroom.
When he came out again, there was no more frog sound from his body.
"How... how did it get better?"
Amelia explained: "You weren't possessed. In medical terms, it's a nervous system disorder caused by an acute stress reaction leading to hormonal imbalance. I gave you nerve block treatment to first regulate your nerve conduction, then you took the Hexaplex Compound to balance your hormone levels."
Simply put, it was nerve treatment first, then medication to regulate, and then eliminate the so-called "pathological factors."
The medicine worked immediately.
The man was deeply grateful.
"Miracle Physician, you're amazing! My employer was treating me like a freak and was about to kick me out. Now I can tell him I've recovered. Thank you, thank you so much!"
Amelia nodded slightly.
"No need to thank me, this is what I should do. If you have any problems in the future, feel free to come to Spring Renewal Clinic."
"Yes, yes."
Charles took the man downstairs to settle the bill.
Spring Renewal Clinic wasn't a charity. If the illness was cured, payment was required, of course.
Soon, only Amelia and Uma were left in the room.
Uma was in a daze, as if still immersed in Amelia's superb medical skills.
Amelia beckoned to her.
"Uma, don't stand there. Sit for a while. We'll go back once Charles has prepared the medicine."
Uma suddenly snapped back to reality.
She turned around, walked two steps toward Amelia, and then suddenly knelt down.
"Ms. Richardson! Please save me!"
Amelia showed a slightly puzzled expression.
"Uma, what's wrong? Get up quickly."
She got up to help Uma, but Uma refused to stand up from the ground.
"Ms. Richardson, I need to tell you something."
Amelia couldn't pull her up. When she pulled her up, Uma would kneel down again, so she had to let her kneel.
"Uma, go ahead."
Only then did Uma speak.
"A few days ago, Ms. Crawford came to me. She said she really likes Lucas, but Lucas doesn't like her, so she wanted to ask for my help."
"At first, I didn't agree. I'm just a servant and can't make decisions for Lucas. And Mrs. Richardson also told us that during this special time, we should have less contact with people outside."
"But my son... although Mrs. Richardson gave my husband and me money and saved his life, he has aftereffects. His eyes can't see."
"Ms. Crawford said she knows a very skilled Miracle Physician. As long as I help her, she'll ask that Miracle Physician to treat my son's eyes."
Amelia looked at her.
"So you agreed?"
Uma said with a trembling voice, "The favor she asked me to do was just to find an excuse to invite Lucas to a place. I thought, since Ms. Crawford likes Lucas, she definitely wouldn't do anything harmful to Lucas, so I agreed."
Amelia looked at Uma quietly.
Her expression showed neither joy nor anger.
But the calmer she was, the more panicked Uma became.
She bowed to Amelia.
"Ms. Richardson, I know I'm ungrateful and shouldn't have agreed to Ms. Crawford's request behind your back, but I really had no choice. As a mother, I can't watch my son be blind for the rest of his life."
Amelia finally spoke, but the question she asked was unexpected for Uma.
"Does Holden know about this?"
Uma and Holden were a couple.
Uma shook her head: "He's very stubborn. If I told him, he definitely wouldn't agree, so I didn't tell him anything."
Amelia said, "I'll take a look at your son. If I can't cure him, no one in the world can. Give up on that idea. But if I can cure him, I'll definitely help you cure him."
She was very confident in her medical skills.
Because her medical skills were learned from countless medical experts in parallel spaces. She had integrated everything and was better than any doctor in the world.
"But..."
She changed her tone and said, "I have two conditions."
